Its a great movie but it can only remain great if there's part 2 and part 3 and so on. That means only if this movie is a success. This 'part 1' is too much world building, its great but its going to takes time. A movie might not be a great way to approach this story but all the cast a movie actor though and i dont think we'll ever get any of them in a series, so yeah, how great this movie is depends on if it have continuation or not

agree, this part 1 felt incomplete. because the story is only half. but great nonetheless. wishing for part 2 and all.

Yeah that vision in the trailer actually threw me off. I honestly thought this movie gonna cover all 😂

Very difficult to cover all in 1 movie.

The 80's version tried it and it was a train wreck and so disjointed.

a beautiful movie of a focused character storyline. the director's method is always focused on the main character's view.

too bad as Dune has a lot of history and background story for all of the other characters.

im in for all the actress and actors, all class AAA people.

Even the story line may be boring to some, but the acting is definitely better.

But for those who went to sleep, u probably dont get what this movie is about.

Try watching the 1984 version. that one maybe u will turn it off. thats even more dry, more long winded.

A great cinematography / story telling will leave you at the edge of the seat no matter where they stop the story at.... in this case, Dune is no exceptional

Yup. Grateful for that. I was like Paul couldn't be leading the Freemen so fast in this movie or maybe it was a training session with Atreides soldiers

If I am not mistaken, the spice is not space fuel.

It is used by navigators to navigate safely through warp space.

Dune warp space is not like Star Wars or Star Trek which rely on computers.

Dune world do not really have computers despite their advance tech.

Again if I am not mistaken, they have gone through terminator type past where there were wars with machines and that is why they abandoned computers.

Correct.

To fully appreciate Dune, there's too much concept and back stories for the typical movie audience.

On macro level:
- Ban on thinking machines
- Mentat
- Bene Geserit
- Ban on nuclear power and energy
- Space folding
- Shield
- Worm/spice life cycle
- The religion back story (kalau aku taip keyword kat sini... sah2 kene kecam/report)

On micro level:
- how powerful/skillful are men like Thufir Hawat, Gurney Halleck, Duncan Idaho, and Stilgar are.
- general how they fear/distrust Bene Geserit and specifically how Lady Jessica can overpower them
- yet at the end... how she fears Paul.
In the book it was written in a way that it gives a sense of how powerful Paul is.

This movie is a masterpiece. First time i watched it, i immediately fell in love with the lore, characters, visuals, environments, etc. So then i went to watch the 1984 dune, dune tv series and children of dune. Then i watched this Dune 2021 again and i really appreciate all the work that went into this movie, the casting is perfect.
Cant wait for part 2. im DUNED!

I highly recommend if you have the time... to read the book. If not all, then just the first one.

But its not a book that you blaze through.

This is slow burn Sci fi. The same as Blade Runner. People come to the show in anticipation of pow! wow! kablamo! But instead served a political drama. 😁

The good balance of viewer attention retention is the political sci fi..... Star Wars. laugh.gif Except the one starting from Jar Jaw binks. The newer ones while are impressive visually, i really can't deal with the nonsense of magically appearing last Jedi that has no relation to anyone.

If I am not mistaken, David Lynch shot a 3+ hours movie but the studio did not like it and took control of editing and cut the movie to around 2 hours to make it be more like Star Wars. At the end the story just does not make sense and glaringly disjointed.

That is why David Lynch disowned the movie and call it his worse movie.
