QUOTE(Ziet Inv @ Nov 19 2021, 01:14 AM) I was in the same dilemma 1+ year ago when I was picking my first macbook air 13" (intel), ended up with space gray and really happy with it so far. For my 2nd (current) M1 MBP, also went with space gray because I am used to the colour already, and honestly it is subtly elegant (not sure if that is the right word), definitely lower profile and doesn't suit you if you want to attract attention at a cafe or office etc. For my upcoming 16" MBP it was a pretty simple choice for me as well (Space Gray), mainly because: 1. The new MBP is very thick (thicc), so thiccccc that it resembles the older macbook back in ~2012 era, and since Space Gray is a relatively new colour, at first glance silver MBP would look like an old MBP (in my opinion) 2. As per the comment, space gray does not stand out as much as the silver, hence it does not distract you from your work (I still use my M1 macbook as second screen because it only supports 1 external display) 3. As for protection (as someone mentioned), not an issue for space gray, just slap on a transparent plastic casing, been using since my 1st MBA and honestly for a RM 25 case, it does it job well while still showcasing the look of a Macbook (classé?), oh well, not like one would care showing off a working tool....or would they? Shopee Link to the 16" casing for the latest MBP 2021 (see model A2485): MBP 16" casing (Shopee link) At the end of the day, it still boils down to personal preference haha! Silver is still a very beautiful colour nonetheless (screams macbook alot!) QUOTE(ClericKilla @ Nov 23 2021, 09:16 AM) oh its not colour chip Ohh ok, as said earlier a friend of mine didn’t quite had the luck with his mbp M1 space grey, he put on a hard casing and after just 6 months of use, he remove the case to clean the dust and get a shock in his life to see permanent casing prints underneath, and apparently it’s not just him, it was also reported in google that the space grey doesn’t only suffer from palm discoloration and colour chip off around the machine, even using a case (which is supposed to keep the machine in pristine condition) actually leave permanent prints..and apparently it’s luck coz not everyone who uses casings will get these issue (similar hard casings as quoted from Shopee link above), so it’s like an expensive gambling game here..something to do with the heat etc etc..some similar pics found in google..something entered the speakers.. cannot seem to remove from small hole. honeslty would just send to apple to let them clear all these before selling the laptop ![]() ![]() ![]() QUOTE(objectifyme @ Nov 18 2021, 04:45 PM) Regarding Silver vs Space Grey, bear in mind that underneath the Space Grey is silver aluminium, so if you tend to go around with a naked MacBook and detest seeing obvious scratches (especially around the edges/corners, which tend to scratch easier) on your machine, I'd opt for Silver. I had a 16 in Space Grey, and definitely noticed some silver peeking out after a while of regular use. like mentioned above, it’s silver paint underneath the anodized space grey paint..and I just googled up ‘MacBook space grey discoloration’ to find hundreds of cases like these reported…which is scary..basically use casings or not also have trouble with the discoloration and scratch…especially using hand cream or worse, alcohol hand wipes/sanitizers which we use very frequently these days…another common issue shared is using stickers on the space grey will leave similar silver marks when removed…many also shared that they prefer space grey much over silver but they are only pretty when new and not after few months when the discoloration start to kick in..no poing using it with anxiety and overly care for a machine that you type and touch for many hours a day..the best is to probably just skin up the whole laptop, which again is not a solution to everyone..or probably just pick silver for peace of mind..With that, I've gone for Silver this time around. Hence why casings are never good option for laptops, regardless if its Macbooks or a Windows Laptop.
The heat alone will not be dissipated well, and under heavy loads will further stress this. If you want protection, a skin is your best option. Otherwise, a pouch / bag is your best friend. I will never recommend anyone to use a casing for their laptops, ever. |

Yep i use casings the first few months and realise the clear casing doesn't go well with space grey (can see transparent plasticky case surrounding dark body), feels like a toy.. so I remove it and use a sleeve instead.. but I think clear casing works OK with silver as the contrast is not too big against lighter colour.. I watched a few video on silver MBP and the outer shell does look beautiful!! I might just try silver for my next MBP! (also potentially toying with an idea of a Mac Mini in the next 3-4 years heh) |

Am looking for the original Apple sleeve for 14” but I don’t think it will come out anytime soon.
Might be getting the replica one for temporary use. This is the only seller that is selling “Apple” sleeve for 14” at this moment but shipping from Indonesia. Not sure whether it really fits the exact dimensions of 14”. https://shopee.com.my/product/316228295/137...01-1637641890.9 |

Probably getting my MBP today, called DHL this morning to ensure they send it over today.
Anyone tried Migration Assistant? I wonder how it will deal with apps migration from Intel MBP. I prefer to use it since it's the fastest way but not sure whether it will migrate all the system junk. |
