Getting an iPhone 13 mini 256GB in red. The reduced notch size cleared more room on screen. Upgrading & downsizing from an iPhone 11 128GB black (anyone want a mint used iP11?)

Going to pick up the new iPad 9th gen for media consumption.

I agree with your points except higher refresh rate. It drains the phone battery and does not work on all apps and probably even in native phone apps

As an Apple fan, I am quite disappointed with the 13 announcement. Not a fault of Apple tho, I just find it very hard to justify RM 4K for another slab of glass.

I want to be excited by tech again, thus I will sit out the upgrade and switch to Z Flip 3 this year. At least the folding is a head turner.

USB-C is nice to have (wtf Apple, my MBP is USB-C, the iPad 2021 is kilat, iPhone 13 lineup is kilat.) but not a feature, just convenience.
Higher refresh rate, doesn't make a huge difference if you don't game (yes limpeh know the importance of it, my Odyssey G9 is 240hz), and on the mini I won't consume media on it, will use the iPad with bigger screen. Most of my usage is texting, browsing, some email reading, video call and voice -- which is why the refresh rate doesn't matter.

But I think the cameras which is inherited from the 12 pro max? (correct me if I am wrong) is quite good right? The 13 pro lineup is for creators already, all the features that a casual user like me won't appreciate.

What was important to me was the better (than 12 mini) battery life and almost on par with iPhone 11 that I am using. And the smaller notch give you a "bigger" screen compared to the 12 mini, which matters for the 13 mini.

i would say don pay for what u not needed, if u don need more than 128 now then in future it very likely u don need also. by the time u wanna upgrade to 256GB, it your time to change new iphone. i hv been using 256GB for past few iphone and never use more than 128GB, so i will just stick to 128, save money and keep it for next iphone.

When I purchased iPhone 7 128GB, was because my iPhone 6s 64GB was almost used up. But when it was time to upgrade from iPhone 7 to 11, I remained at 128GB because at that point in time my usage was roughly 70GB

And now my free space is ~15GB, so it's time to get the iPhone 13 256GB. Assuming I bought the iPhone 11 @ 256GB, it would be unnecessary because I will still upgrade to the iPhone 13 now (2 years contract cycle)

I like the flip too but is Samsung UI better? Camera, battery, and video better?

My Samsung tablet a can't even run zoom without crashing, made the passcode icon smaller with sound and haptics enabled, can't check battery health

Samsung UI < iOS UI in terms of usability, although I have to say that iOS UI design has been stale for a couple of years now. I understand that Apple can't shake up the design like Android does without scaring away the boomers who depend on it. Cameras and battery definitely iPhone wins. Plus I have an MBP and an iPad so I won't entirely leave the Apple ecosystem.

Remember when the first iPhone came out and how the entire world was excited about multi touch? Same thing happened with iPhone 4 design, Touch ID, iPhone X going (almost) full screen. When was the last time you felt that excitement from an iPhone release?

That wow factor is long gone from iPhone. That need to be wowed again before I open my wallet is just a personal thing for me. Hoping that iPhone 14 at least changes its design (throwback to iPhone 4 also I won't mind), or pull off some miracle like under screen FaceID or a new UI design language.

if its still mediocre despite the good promises, might as well go for regular 13

as for the charging port, can opt for wireless charging, its not a big deal breaker

I can’t see Apple coming up with a flip or fold form factor till they think they can absolutely nail it, so I doubt you’ll see anything groundbreaking from Apple in the foreseeable future. The Z flip and fold are interesting phones no doubt, but might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Do enjoy and share your review on the Flip!

Wow factor i get what you mean when I first play with iphone 3gs. I have been using best phone in the world at time of released, HTC incredible s, HTC one M7 last time.

The best camera phone is Asus or vivo now according to dxomark. But still i think the UI is lacking.

I just want a phone that works now. Apps that works with the phone. Not hang, lag, crashed, need to debug, check forums for fixes, transfer messages, soft reset and keep relogin to apps

Rumored that iphone 13 base models have 4GB RAM same as ip12.

If that's the case, i may go for ip12 model instead of ip13 mini

Have bought every iPhone since iPhone 4 and the Mini 13 would be a good choice if you like small phones and you are not a heavy user - otherwise you might need a powerbank of sorts. Apple hasn't officially announced the discontinuation of the Mini line after 13 but most industry experts believe this would be the last one as sales numbers are not good.

My wife will be getting a IP13 Pro. She is now using a IP11 Pro max and IP 8+. The new one will replace the IP 8+. Considering that she don't use much phone these days I guess its ok not to get the max version. Most of her personal screen time are now done on the Ipad

As for me still considering either IP13 or IP13 mini. Currently using Samsung Note 20 Ultra with 2 sims ( personal/office). I am thinking for me to carry a Samsung Note and IP13 would be a huge burden on my pocket. Mainly will be using the IP13 for photos (Note take horrible fast moving objects) and maybe slight office email. The IP13 mini is interesting but i am just worried it might be just too small for me. On the other handling IP13 and Note 20 is going to be difficult as well. And i am really interested in the pink version. hahaha

Too small to justify the upgrade bro, especially since 13 doesn’t get the promotion display.

Going from Android to iPhone will have its own set of challenges. Make sure you know what you’re getting into first, especially with the limitations of iOS.

Based on my experience last year I would say 13 and 13 mini will be easier to get compared to the Pro and Pro Max models but it will also depend on the colour you want. I suspect Pink will be a hot seller this year - even for guys!!

I see, then i will just head to store on october 8 and see which color they have ready stock for iphone 13. I am okay with all the colors except for pink hahaha

Hi, iphone 13 able to use up to 5 years without lag after always update IOS every year? usage is 70% web browsing, social media, youtube, waze, chat apps, lazada, shopee and so on. 25% gaming. 5% video and photo shooting. not sure 4GB ram can sustain in feature or not, scare phone will getting lag after update IOS 19-20 version in feature.

Pretty sure it'll be fine. My iPhone 6S (2GB RAM) can still do all you mentioned above well on iOS 14 (haven't update to iOS 15 yet) with the exception of gaming coz I don't game

Senheng/SenQ allows instalments but getting one on launch day can be tricky, their record in that respect isn’t stellar. But if you’re aiming for a 13 and not the Pro model and you have some flexibility with the colour choice I think there is a high chance you’ll be able to get a unit from whichever store you choose.

"lag". I find that this word is subjective to every person. 1 seconds slow might consider as lag to some, while some said it's not lag.

To me, the 3rd year onwards it lags, as in it takes slightly longer to open apps. Scrolling may still be smooth. But launching apps and in app loading takes longer. If u don't understand what mean, go to any demo unit, compare a 3 or 4 older generation iPhone with the latest iPhone and do a speed launching test. Guaranteed u will see the difference.

btw, u mentioned shopee, if u are a heavy shopee user who always collect voucher, u will know that collecting voucher needs to be very very very fast. besides having a fast finger, ur phone needs to respond very fast. and this is where u cannot afford any lag.

My mum’s current iPhone 5S is probably the definition of lag for me. Takes 3-5 seconds to open/switch apps. Amazingly, Apple is still periodically releasing security updates for it.

256 gb should last you another 5 years.

Well, the iPhone 13 range starts at 128GB hence that’s already double of what you have, and 256GB is definitely good to go for quite a number of years - provided you don’t keep taking 4K videos. But then again there are workarounds like putting in a little effort to transfer your photos and videos to your laptop/pc or subscribe to 200GB iCloud storage for RM11.90/month.

If possible better get 256gb, as nowadays apps size getting bigger and bigger
Unless you hardworking transfer unused photo to computer then get 128gb

With all the bugs that's being reported online, is it still safe to purchase 1 unit now?

So far, the bugs I saw are for Apple Watch unlocking and CarPlay? So if we don't really use that 2 features, should be fine to still purchase it?

What you want to check out? The form factor is exactly like 12, with a little bit more thickness.

I am using 11, and was dead set on the 13 mini, until I went and try the 12 in store. The 12 is actually smaller than 11 (I never knew, cause I didn't check out the 12) and it was very nice to hold compared to 11.

If 12 & 13 was same size as 11, I will definitely go for the mini.

EDIT: I plan to pre-order online from telco, lol, I ain't going to queue or wait in line or rush like crazy people. It is a phone, they not giving me money.

more on actually seeing the colours in person lol. Watched some videos on youtube and I noticed the blue colour seems to have different shades depending on the lighting, so wanna take a look in person

anyone got past experience pre-order iphone from switch before?

I’m using an iPhone 11 now with my Watch Series 5 and unlocking the phone with my mask on is still a bit of a hit and miss, so I guess I wouldn’t mind it too much for now. Apple has a good track record of issuing bug fixes swiftly so I think you shouldn’t be too concerned, but if you’re in no hurry to get the phone and wanna wait for it all to stabilise first, that will do too.

Not all outlets will have every colour available for display so that’s a point to note as well. Also, I don’t think you’ll see the levels of crowd like we saw in that China video but with the Covid protocols and queues, some waiting in line to check out the phones is too be expected. Also, not every colour may be available in stock for the storage size you want so yeah, that’s something to consider too.

Anyone with XSMAX upgrading to iphone 13? cant make my mind yet either iphone 13 or 13 promax.
