i set my cross over at 60hz.. lfe 120hz.
u remember to put ur speaker to small ya
*
using paradigms.

B&W is set #2.

btw, i played some vinyls again with the diff variations.

i start to like the simulated DTS + virtual x! biggrin.gif

this gives it a brighter, more punchier sound with a 3D sensation.

perhaps it is due to 10 years of HD 5.1 hitting my ears. laugh.gif

I am using 80hz,  Because all my speaker are bookshelf.  Need more subwoofer help. My receiver can not set LFE value.  Actually what is LFE 120hz meaning?
*
80 is too high, will get too bassy.
Subwoofers meant to produce v low frequencies.
Bookshelfs shud b able to handle 60.
I wud like to set at 50hz but no such choice.

LFE... Below quote:

This is the low pass filter (LPF) setting of the low frequency effects (LFE) channel. ... This is the high frequency cutoff point for the LFE, also known as the . 1 channel in a 5.1/6.1/7.1 surround source. In practice this should always be set to 120Hz since the LFE channel supports information up to that frequency.

how come u 2 lain answer one? one ada sub one xde?

I have only listen to my vinyl on 2.0 till lately some one jahat ask me to plug a sub in n make it 2.1
*
why stop at 2.1? tongue.gif

u ada sub, try dts+virtual x 5.1/7.1 la...!

time to quit being stuck in 2.0 of the 60s/70s forever. rclxs0.gif

but dunno what AVR u hv...?

today, i tested the video side for this denon 3700.

the upscaling 1080p->4K is v good, i mean for full bdmv's.

and if it is in dtsx... set to dtsx+virtual x... like Fate of the furious, jason bourne... vv nice.

the dts height virtualization is not great-great but can hear the diff... feels more like in a cinema. thumbsup.gif

still waiting on my atmos pair.... i m dying to compare DDtrueHD+atmos with DTShdma+virtual X.

or maybe DTShdma+Neural X is a better comparison?

i got my new avr last week and run the calibration twice.. first on the unit itself then using audyssey app. i had turn off mid range compensation and adjusted the bass boost curve but yet to apply to the unit.. wait later adjust to the unit and see if i can get better result. biggrin.gif
*
Thanks, will read... see if i will do audyssey a 3rd round. biggrin.gif

Audyssey didnt do a good job with the SW, had to tweak manual.

What avr did u buy?

but the vinyl setup is on a diff floor, using those integrated amp

so many things to set one ar? I always try to watch the movie as intended.. the audio effect macam private limited ler...
*
If u r a purist, the integrated amp for vinvyl stereo sound is fine, v original!

Vinyls, I listen to both original stereo... and simulated surround, some come out v nice, not all.

For digital files, I hv some remastered dts5.1 albums.

these, oòoo.... dts surround, dts dsurround.. can be awesome! rclxms.gif

Almost done with the new set up, learned a few new things.

Now, gotta watch some movies n see if they sound diff or the same. laugh.gif

black magic woman... think not genuine dts5.1 version.... so, i bought the vinyl Santana Abraxas from Amazon! laugh.gif

If you only got 1 pair overhead speakers. SHL & SHR position are better.
*
this, i agree, should be.

i try a couple of positions.

best i could get is to place on top of my surround speakers which are already wall mounted.. to bounce off the ceiling.

putting on top of front speakers has minimal effect.

hmm... u may be right after all.

after trying all kinds of settings, i now think 80hz for front, center and surround are quite OK... maybe becos i adjusted the SW vol, distance, dB...?

what about the atmos speakers? 80, 100, 120hz?

it can get confusing... too many variations, too many possibilities!! laugh.gif

alright, now that i have completed my 5.1.2 setup and tested the new equipment (Denon X3700H, Onkyo SKH410 Atmos speakers), i'll just summarize:

.. the Denon is good value for money, plentiful features, easy to use, lots of info available online.

.. it is impt to test by trial n error on a few things... audyssey incl... crossover frequencies, vol db, speaker distances, subwoofer vol, atmos speaker positioning, etc.
took me a few days to finally settle on what i hear is best for me.

.. 8K, 4k/8k upscaling... i find the 1080p upscaling to 4k v good for BDMV movies.

.. the atmos pair i have placed on top of the surrounds for upward firing gives a mild 3D-height effect but is audible.
these r tiny speakers for a tiny room but i'm satisfied... now, i think hv a true cinema! biggrin.gif

.. i like the many audio output options for any input... DD, DTS +surround, +DSurround, +neural x, rock arena, matrix, etc.
these option surely allow u to find one that will satisfy u for that piece u r playing.

.. my inputs are turntable(phono), media player local playback (hdmi), android box apps (hdmi) and smart ATV tv streaming (optical).

.. i like the internet radio and firmware OTA.

.. i doubt i will use too many of the other features but likely will upgrade to an OLED/DV tv and media player in the next year or 2.

.. on the negative side, i see risk with the main unit w/o the relevant buttons to continue usage if the remote fails; old onkyo has these buttons.

.. the main unit gets a little warmer than i like but is not hot.

overall, a fun few days toying with all that. now, i just want to enjoy it for next 10 years! tongue.gif

it can be overwhelming with so many audio terms - DD/DD+/DDTrueHD/DDatmos/DSurround + dts/dts surround/dtsx/dts neural x/dts virtual x.

i m not sure if i understand all of it biggrin.gif , but these readings helped:

i do notice that PLII no longer available and had been upgraded to Dolby Surround instead. However, Dolby Surround doesnt suit my taste that much. Reason being: the leak of vocal to surround speaker which is irritating.
PLII did a better handling on this where most of the focus is on center speaker when there's a 2 channel stereo signal being processed. Dolby Surround awaken my fronts where musical were being send to the fronts as compare to PLII where the focus of center:front:surround was like 70:20:10.

DTS Neutral:X in the other hand sound better with less leakage to surround speaker but still when i compare to PLII seems like the vocal clarify over PLII is higher over center speaker
Auro 2D : This is interesting.. This is a new format to me and i observe the audio for vocal was clearer on my center speaker and the bass seem intensify.
DTS Virtual:X - so far i havent really got chance to test on this mode. The audio seems very soft for this mode.
*
yep, PLII been replaced by DSurround... and true, PLII center speaker vocal was more prominent, v good for "talk-talk drama".

DTS NeuralX is more discrete, more focused; DSurround is more "spatial", perhaps too spatial, i find.

DTS NeuralX vs DSurround - i find which one comes out better depends a lot on the title and available tracks, just have to try them.

DTS VirtualX only comes in w/o ceiling/height/atmos speakers. Once installed for height1, virtual X no more... makes sense, NeuralX wud supersede it.

Auro 2D? i hv not seen this yet.

Ever tried Matrix? This selection can be useful, sometimes it comes out best! biggrin.gif

after some reading, i realize why some titles have several audio tracks incl PCM.

i will try later using PCM and see what upmix result for each of the surround options.

this may potentially be better for older recordings...?

6700 vs my 2000
definitely an upgrade..
what i like
- more head room due to bigger amplification power
- wifi available
- more sampling rate supported.. x2000 will change the sampling rate to 48000 vs now i can get 44100 sampling rate for my music files with DSD compatible
- Audysey App calibration support. this is not something new but its new for me. I love this piece a lot as its gives more control over the EQ
- dual independent sub preout
- 13 preout channels
- atmos (but i do not have atmos speaker yet) - mostly for the time being i will get a reflective speaker until i have my living room setup redone
- HDMI eARC

what i dont like
- missing PLII processing option
- missing radio (AVR vs AVC) 6700 is actually AVC (but i m not using radio function over my x2000)

so far been a week since i m using the avr, i find this unit has better control over the low frequency thanks to its multieq x32. The low frequency is more solid over the fronts and center.  Another big update for me is the Audyssey App which i m still trying to find the best setting to my ears. I cannot be compare to REW but at least it gives me some overview over what is the problem and how to work together with my SVS PEQ to do some correction.

i bought this unit with the thought of having more channel support and allow me to upgrade to pre-pro setup. Till then hopefully i can utilized the power from the unit.
*
bolded... do get the atmos speakers ASAP - they make the diff! biggrin.gif

even for the tiny upward firing ones i have, they make a significant diff.

i wud think if u go 4 x ceiling speakers, that wud be awesome.

as for the sub, i also find my new denon better than old onkyo - with a low vol setting, it still produces very pronounced lowest frequencies; i m using a paradigm SW.

one last thing.. from my collection, majority of the BDMVs are in DDTrueHD/Atmos while majority of music videos/concerts are in DTSHDMA.

which mean both Atmos and DTS NeuralX will be used a lot.

great test movie titles - 13 hours Benghazi, Star Trek Into the Darkness, X-Men Apocalypse.

great music/concerts test titles - Scorpions Athens 2013, Hans Zimmer Prague 2017, DTS Demo Music BluRay Collection.

ya, after digging, play the best files again.

low grade ones won't give u much, u gotta play those 40-90GB ones.

and yes, as suggested, recalibrate, check all over.

i initially made a mistake with the polarity of the atmos speakers but was identified by audyssey, rectified.

yup that klipsch i m thinking something with high power tweeter for the bounce off.. but the price pulls me away..
hows ur onkyo speaker? good atmos effect?
*
my onkyo skh410 are tiny, cost 1/3 of those klipsch - very mild effect but audible.

my idea was to first try them sitting on top of the front speakers - minimal effect (and my front tops aren't flat).

placed them on top of surround, changed crossover to 120hz - better.

my surrounds are wall mounted. so, the atmos are not too far from the ceiling.

i will decide at some point if i should go from 5.1.2 to 5.1.4. hmm.gif

yep, for those distances, will not be easy to get good effect from front upfiring.

my small room ceiling is only 10ft high.

mlp to surround... 2m or 6+ft.

Quite enjoy with the products. Originally was thinking to buy Z9X, but after talking with the sales guy then decide go for Z1000 Pro.

Hopefully the bluray menu issue can be solve in next firmware update.
