the reflection i got hear from CMY demo room before.. its impressive.. but i m not sure what they did to their demo room.. i wont say its 100% not working but for sure its not as direct as ceiling setup.. if there's a pair of reflective speaker that can be loan to test the setup before purchase i will say that could be a good idea.. what you say bro?
*
yeah, i wud like to test them if available! biggrin.gif

QUOTE(kkthen @ Oct 9 2021, 01:35 PM)
If you cannot follow atmos, you can try dtsx speaker layout. Put your overhead speaker like SHL & SHR  position at side wall.
*
my SL and SR are now wall mounted.

i m wondering what diff it will make if i place a pair of atmos speakers SHL+SHR on top of the SL+SR.

can angle them to fire upwards to reflect down to target listener position, right?

my FL+FR tops aren't flat but curved - will be hard to put SHL+SHR on top of them.

I think u need to go all the way to RZ series.... RZ840 11.2 channel... hehe go for 7.2.4
*
this onkyo TX-RX840 is now sold out! biggrin.gif

it was available at desa but no more, can't find any online seller stocking them.

i suppose can do with RZ740 - 185W is good enough, right?

i m dragging my feet becos my non-atmos AVR and non-HDR TV need to be changed together. if not, no point.

both are still going strong! biggrin.gif

Just like mine, change new TV, new amp, new media player..... doh.gif  doh.gif
*
I hv 2 sets. The other one is ok, no need to change anything.

I hv onkyo n Denon, prefer onkyo... crispier, great for vinyls.

Home theater kaki's know v well... Speakers last v long, dun stinge, esp mains.

TV, media player, every 5-7 years.. AVR 8-12.

Turntable best... Last forever!❣️

If you only got 1 pair overhead speakers. SHL & SHR position are better.
*
are you using just 1 pair shown in the picture or there is another pair in front?

before fixing them at ceiling, did u try a "reflect from ceiling" position... any diff?

those speakers are normal bookshelfs, right?

My living room is small , so I only use one pair overhead speaker.  I try to move the direction of overhead speaker tweeter toward to my ear when I sit at center of sofa, you can try different angle degree sure got different effect.  My surround speaker & overhead speaker are same model. They are xtz 93.21, normal surround speaker with frequency response  49 Hz - 25 kHz. Their bass reflex ports design in front of speaker, suitable hang at  wall .
*
ok, TQ for info, good to know.

i think i will also place just 1 pair above the surrounds.

but probably place them on top of the surrounds (hung at wall), angled to fire upwards to reflect down.

my AV room is even smaller, low ceiling... so, i'm hopeful upward firing may work.

I remember your top of  main front speaker not Flat, how  do you put atmos enable speaker on top? But you can try Wharfedale-D300 which also  can be mouthed at  wall  if you fail to get good result as atmos enable speaker on top  of your front speaker.
*
correct, my main speakers top are curved, cannot place on top.

planning to place on top of the surround (side) which are wall mounted, thus no need to drill or hang separately.

becos these existing side speakers aren't big, i can't use big heavy ones that weight 2.5, 3kg each as atmos.

which leaves me with only the onkyo 1.2kg... but it has only single cone, yet rated 25-100W.

will it work well enough? hmm.gif

i really enjoy my music video concerts in DDtrueHD.

i have settled for a new denon AVR+onkyo atmos speakers.

let's see how it all comes out this weekend. rclxm9.gif

any DUNE media box fans here? what u think of these:

https://www.dune-hd.com/products/dune-hd-ma...#specifications
https://www.dune-hd.com/products/dune-hd-magic-4k

diff is one is 4+32gb, the other 2+16gb.

HDR10+ but no DV?

also... dune traditionally uses realtek like zidoo, acryan... now changing to amlogic S905X3?

current chip shortage forcing them to use whatever they can get?

WIth so powerful gear..... Yeah LG OLED G1 or C1, maybe 85"?  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

Of coz Zidoo Neo X already.....
*
no la... my AV room is tiny, not a stadium.... my speakers will blow la..! biggrin.gif

was tossing between 4700 and 3700, decided to take the latter.

TV... will likely go Sony OLED, i like ATV... will wait if good promo comes, no rush.

one thing i suspect - the chip shortage now is causing havoc - some AVR manufacturers can't make enough.

apple cutting down production, not enough chips... ohmy.gif

TrueHD vs HDMA is like Honda vs Toyota i think haha.. but dolby did a good job for their marketing of Atmos.. that pull them far away from DTS

great bro.. i m glad u didnt insist of onkyo avr.. onkyo is sad now.. their company was being taken over and their support team is slow. I got another Onkyo unit waiting for firmware update to fix the MQA issue. I dont think now is not a good timing for onkyo and its good to observe first what will happen next before decide to jump gun on Onkyo.. i heard they will drop audyssey and take in dirac

rclxms.gif enjoy bro
*
TrueHD comes out more wholesome to me, so i prefer it, at least for music videos.

Onkyo.... i have good experience with the 706, that's why i looked at the 740/840 first.

but i think there is a supply issue - there is no one selling these 2 online. there's one with a 740 but gone missing for a month! biggrin.gif

i also have good experience with an entry level denon; i may yet be impressed with this 3700.

been reading the manual and watching some videos - all set to receive and hook it up!

most impt is how it will come out for phono/vinyls - i hope at least as good as the old onkyo.

great bro.. waiting for ur review innocent.gif

half way thru setup... pair of atmos not arrived yet.

the base set up done, preliminary audyssey done, tested a bit.

first impressions:

++ latest features 8k, 8k/4k upscaling, more audio "combination" selections, firmware update OTA.
-- vinyl audio not as bright/crispy as the onkyo as expected, gets warm (not hot).
will comment further when complete.

QUOTE(cyclone2 @ Oct 15 2021, 03:47 AM)
Go for 4700, sure no regret.... can play auro 3D, even though i'm using 3700....I'm a bit regret didnt go for 4700 haha

heard auro 3d good for concert
haha, must always go for best one.... so can last 5 to 10 yrs...  rclxm9.gif  rclxm9.gif
should be zidoo neo x zidoo neo x zidoo neo x rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
*
the main reason for not going for the 4700 is it's a tad too deep for the shelf with the legs not resting properly.
the 3700 is a few cm less deep, fits just nice like the onkyo 706.

something came out bizzare - all my files played good with himedia Q10pro; no audio for HD audio files with himedia Q30.
there wasn't such an issue when Q30 worked with onkyo 706.
gave me a scare, thought hdcp2.3 causing this! biggrin.gif
swapped the 2 himedia's - Q10pro now works good with 3700, Q30 works good with X520.

zidoo.. ya, may be exploring sooner than i thought! biggrin.gif

which audio mode u r using? try stereo/pure and see and go in tweak the 2 channel listening setting if u havent
Audyssey tends to tame highs for movies.. if u r using movies mode like PL II those mode normally will kill the high unless u do audyssey bypass
*
vinyl - tried all the combinations, probably need some tweaking to improve it, will redo when atmos pair arrives.

PLII is only good for AAC2.0... i never use it for HD audio files.. these, gotta select/auto the highest one.

outcome for DD+, DDtrueHD, dtshdma, dtsx are ok, yet to try atmos - still, will recalibrate, tweak again.

yea normally movies will be good post audyssey (we r not comparing with other room correction)
the problem is with music.. i think ur denon remote you can press the red button or yellow button at the bottom to see if that gives u different audio experience

by the way.. silly question.. vinyl stereo ke mono?  sweat.gif
*
yeah, those red+yellow buttons give variations... think meant to mimic movie vs pure music.

vinyls are all stereo 2.0.

take a concert originally pressed on vinyl, then digitized to flac or wav, u get just 2.0 audio.

take same concert remastered in dtshdma5.1/ddtruehd + 1080p video - excellent, this, i love! thumbup.gif

playing vinyl set to multichannel mimics the 5.1 audio but is not always nice.

this built in phono nice ar?
I remember those days I try before, the sound macam stuck stuck
then have to use external phono then macam a bit better

the 4 color Denon button hor.. ehh kelvin my one also Denon right?
I always can't find something nice there... just set it to auto

@cyclone, I think Neo X more for the audiophile right? since javfan into vinyl, he just need the UHD3000 for his mobies
*
in the days before video killed the radio star and when things were simple, it was common to do a TT->preamp->power amp->speakers - u get great sounds.

now, i try to minimize the hardware... just plug in the phono input.

UHD3000... will take some time to evaluate, probably a toss up between a zidoo and a dune.

vinyls are all stereo 2.0.
lol.. thanks..

yeah, those red+yellow buttons give variations... think meant to mimic movie vs pure music.
if u goes for red it will change the prologic for music.. more audio will goes thru front speaker rather than center centric..
yellow is direct mode
bypassing all the audyssey audio processing (eq i think will not be done according to audyssey setup but not sure abt time alignment) .. subwoofer will not get any lfe signal in this mode

you can long press any of the color button to change to stereo so your music will come from fronts only and your sub will function when u r playing stereo 2.0.. that mode some time sound better on my x2000  brows.gif
*
thanks for info, will be playing! biggrin.gif

ada auto meh? why i cant recall? hahaha if auto means PLII then in most of the case ur music denon wont know is music because its same like tv / youtube that send 2.0 signal in and it will apply PL II logic into to change it to movie sound.. which i dun like for music as its center speaker centric
*
i think by default it is auto, will play the highest audio stream if multi tracks; or just direct, stereo if single track 2.0.

PLII will only kick in if u select it, right?

Is the uhd2000 newer than uhd3000?

What main diff? I hv not started reading yet. biggrin.gif

But i like the 2 sata bays, nice and neat.
