Wahh Flora02,

You took them to hotel ahh? They must be really happy then tongue.gif

Last time when Iggy went to a hotel, he get to be a free range glider and explore every nook and cranny of the hotel biggrin.gif Then jump on people's face in the middle of the night doh.gif Haha laugh.gif

In another 3 days time, my suggies get to travel balik kampung... But no fancy hotels lar, just a rumah kampung tongue.gif

---

Yeah, a lot of breeders/sellers with commercial mind will always give wrong info and tell every potential buyer that keeping gliders is easy cuz all they care is for the gliders to get sold off quickly.

That's why I say, never trust a breeder/seller that says keeping gliders are easy. It merely shows that they do not know a thing about gliders.

---

Aiyahhh! Iggy & Luna stinks to the max today... Semua Luna punya pasal making a mess in the wheel! mad.gif Soooo stinky! Carry them around my neck also cannot tahan the smell sweat.gif

yawn.gif

Breeders or joeys and such, please do thru PM only, thank you.

Correction, a BIG cage and sticks or vines, not big sticks only. Although they will do their antics in the cage, it is also better to let them out once in a while smile.gif

Sugar gliders can make various types of noise, NO they don't just chirp softly.

Here are some reference on the noises they make and what they mean. Click on the name of the noise to hear it.

I think will probably wipe them again with some PureAyre lah, still stinking a bit blink.gif

I think the brown stains is most probably the musking lor, Iggy's pouch also have it. I wash and change their pouch every week, but today gotta change again lah cuz of what Luna has done...

Hola everyone! wave.gif

I'm back from my long Raya break!

Glad my suggies behaved quite well, ate as much as they usually do, although on the first night Iggy woke me up 5 times by his barking sweat.gif

Okay, gotta do some catching ups tongue.gif

QUOTE(kayz1e @ Oct 12 2007, 02:35 PM)
i wonder if ppl came up with an air purifier to cover the smell..
*

There are a few types of the so-called air purifier, but none really works 100%... More like 60-70% only...

QUOTE(NewbieBetta @ Oct 12 2007, 02:54 PM)
can we use wood bedding like those on hamster?
*

Can, but must have a separater for it so that they don't touch or play in the woodshaving smile.gif

QUOTE(zeist @ Oct 12 2007, 09:34 PM)
I can see that the cage size is pretty big, do you still need to release them daily?  unsure.gif
*

Oh, yes, letting them out is never enough. Remember they originally live in forest and how big is a forest compared to our confined areas?

The actual recommended size for a captive glider's cage is actually 9ft x 9ft! But none of us mere humans can provide that for them... So letting them out to explore our mere confined areas is the least that we can do wink.gif

QUOTE(madmoz @ Oct 13 2007, 12:34 AM)
Is that even possible? The smell of three week old wood shavings for a litter of dwarfs haunts me still  shakehead.gif
*

Haha, it is possible!

I bet if you get a whiff of an unwashed week old suggie cage, it'll haunt you too laugh.gif

QUOTE(coldfusionpower @ Oct 18 2007, 04:08 PM)
now there's 6 or 7 new suggies at pet safari ikano. the cage is small , one small coconut hideout and a super bright lamp above the cage .

and two sad case. all of them are super young, the head is even smaller than my thumb, one of them , at the beginning of the tail dont hv fur and abit reddish ..

manage to snap some pictures (no flash) when the worker is behind talking to a customer and no other worker in sight.
*

OMG! I saw them too on Friday when I was there at PS...

But it was already lesser than that and the size of the joey is really super small!!! Just a wee bit bigger than my thumb size! It was heartbreaking cry.gif I couldn't stomach it to watch them longer sad.gif

The light was insane... When my husband ask why they put the light, the salesperson there said because they're cold!

Furthermore, they have a small piece of paper which was handwritten with some so-called basic info, stuck by the side of the cage... Like origin from where... Life span... And the diet written was : APPLE & CAT FOOD... WTF!!!

I really cannot tahan... Would've really wanted to take the joey away from them evil people... cry.gif But I walked away.....

QUOTE(NewbieBetta @ Oct 18 2007, 10:21 PM)
can that size of cage fit only 1 glider + it will always be out with me either in room free to roam or in pouch with me?
*

NO, NO, NO... A glider should never ever be housed in a cage as small as that even if you let them out daily - period! The minimum is already stated at 3ft high, nothing less please!

The RM100 cage at PS is the minimum that we all would pass it as...

QUOTE(coldfusionpower @ Oct 19 2007, 02:43 PM)
lets kidnap them like me and KP almost did .. but we did it for real .. hmm.gif  brows.gif
*

Yeah, I also wanna kidnap... The joey is too damn small and fragile looking cry.gif

Got hold of the one the salesperson was holding, small and really untamed! Was crabbing and trying to jump off you and run away at any possible moment...

QUOTE(Taipan1 @ Oct 20 2007, 12:20 PM)
KP - sorry to hear that iggy is now a ITTy although some males up here are very doubtfull !!!.
*

Huhh? What is there to be sorry for?

And what do you mean by ITTy?

I'm glad to be able to have him neutered and not contributing to the over breeding of gliders without possible good owner here wink.gif

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Oct 20 2007, 10:15 PM)
Wow.... last time I went to Taronga zoo, I fainted and rested somewhere while my family went about the zoo... sigh... so I missed out alot but back then I was only 11 heheheh.

Every brand of juice sure smell and taste different.... but I like Ceres but a bit expensive hahaha...
*

Yeah, Ceres seems good, but too big lah and then must consume within 7 days after opening...

I always get Berri brand cuz they got in those small drinking packs smile.gif I think Marigold also got in small drinking packs.

I just bought the Ceres bottled mix fruit juice, it's a mix of passion fruit, mango, apple, pear and a few more fruits I think... The mixture is called "Whispers of Summer"... Haha, can't wait to try it out tongue.gif

Haha, I don't really like apple juice alone, that's why get the mix one tongue.gif

I also got them the Berri Mango and Apple juice tongue.gif

Sighh, someone is bothering someone in the cage now, lotsa high pitch squeeking going on...

Time for food I guess tongue.gif

But Iggy ahh, everytime I open the cage, even just a bit, he will manage to squeeze pass my hand and pop out of the cage doh.gif Look at me with those innocent big eyes like "huhh, what??"...

Added on October 21, 2007, 12:18 amEhh, just like I said so... Iggy is out... Exploring his curtain as usual... Nowadays it'll take quite a while and sometimes have to tipu him a bit to get him back to his cage sweat.gif Heh, the taste of freedom tongue.gif

Cuz they sell in a pack of 6.

I got the Berri drinking pack one by one. They sell it separately. About RM1.90 per box at Guardian. Don't seems to find it in small boxes anywhere else tongue.gif

Found a video after watching that one with the Why I want a Sugar Glider. This guy does care about gliders and knows what he's talking about.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=fKLvce4blTE&mode=related&search=

Btw, 'Why I want a SG' is kinda dumb as if you can't afford the cage and food, why get a glider? It's like having a baby with no diapers, cradle and milk.
*

Oh yeah, that guy has had his gliders for 6 years! He sure knows a lot about them and takes great care of them smile.gif

Just look at how they jump back to him... Even from the floor!

And he chooses good homes for his joeys nod.gif

Now that is a good glider owner nod.gif

Yeah, the "Why I want a Sugar Glider", I can also do that tongue.gif Ask someone give me a cage and food too and I will take care of the rest tongue.gif Muahaha laugh.gif

Chipmunks can be tamed only if you kept them from babies.

hey guys... i'm interested to rare one...
but as per mention they need a lot of time to taken care of...
They really will bored to die??? i plan to rare 1 only...
will their home stinks??? if don change for 1-2 weeks???
jus like hamsters???
*

Yes, they need a lot of attention. Imagine taking care of a baby for 10-15 years.

Yes, they can die from loneliness and stress. Keeping 2 in the long term is always advisable cuz we do not know what will become of us in the next few years.

Yes, their home will stink if you do not watch their diet and clean their cage regularly.

If you read back a few post above, someone has mentioned that they actually stink more than hamsters, especially when they musk.

Read up the 1st page and do more research smile.gif

Yeah, musking.

Normally this is very distinctive with the males. If you worry about musking, either have the male neutered or keep a female pair smile.gif

Yes, they do make lovely pocket pets for those who can bring them around.

Ohh, but they will pee and poo on you whenever they like. However, they will not do their biz where they sleep, like their sleeping or bonding pouch for instance.

really have to spend 4-6 hours per day on them???

Huh, neutral them?? Or you mean neuter?

If neuter, will have to go to a vet lor.

4-6 hours especially when they're new to you. I can only say that you need to have interaction with them every single day and as much as you can. Because they are colony animals, they are used to having constant companion, that is why they need the interaction especially if you keep them singly. That's why they can die from loneliness...

I bet if we put someone(human), isolated all alone long enough, they too can die of loneliness(or turn insane).

RM300 for a pair?

24cm from head to tail?

How big izit compared to the pixs in the 1st page?

But judging by the price, could be adults. They're harder to tame and will most probably bite too, not for those with less patience and no persistance.

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Oct 23 2007, 09:32 PM)
...They can't survive in our wild lah.... more like release till their death liao.... if they do survive, they can disrupt the natural ecosystem and cause harm to our native squirrels and tree shrews. NEVER ever release a pet that you get from a petshop into the wild.

Even sugar gliders, they cannot survive, they can be eaten by wild cats or civet cats.
*

Yeah, it's a pity if you let go of your unwanted exotic pets into the wild thinking that they can survive on their own... They simply can't...

They have been raised in captivity, getting food sources from us, how do you expect them to find food by themselves in the wild?

When I tell more about gliders and touch about how some people get bored or choose not to keep them a few years down the line and opted to release them in the wild/forest, all the reactions I get is that "That's good what, they get more space and nature..." doh.gif

Dhuhhh, how do we even know that they even survived the first night??? They're already out of our sight in the wild/forest...

It's sad that some people don't have the slightest inclination to study more about what they keep as pets...

Sighhh...

Okay, don't wanna dampen the morning mood tongue.gif

Ohh, now chipmunk talk lar pulak in suggie thread tongue.gif

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I used to want one, but now I'm happier with my suggies tongue.gif

CFP, Aiko pun gigit orang?

Haha, I will always caution people when they wanna touch Iggy cuz Iggy will bite stranger if you approach him the wrong way. One of it is by putting your hand straight in the pouch... They only allow me to do so safely as they are used to it and recognized my smell, tho sometimes Iggy will still give me a gentle "chomp" as to say "take your hands off my face" tongue.gif

If YOU are your suggies main caretaker/friend/companion, it is important to have close supervision of them while the presence of other people especially when other people are handling them. That's why socializing them with other people is very good smile.gif

If you put your hand right infront of any animal punya face, ofcourse it's like inviting them to bite tongue.gif

Iggy is very much used to people compared to Luna, but he will bite if handled the wrong way. Luna is not used to people, but she will not bite...
