Yeah, I also dunno why they don't really read up the 1st page... Since we compiled it from various sources, it's as pack as can be already...

I find that putting actual safe tree branches is good lar, cuz right now the Hibiscus branch that I put in their cage is one of their fav perching and climbing place, plus I can see a lot of stripped bark around smile.gif

It's good to know they have something safe to chew/rip/strip now...

Last time Iggy used to try and chew the cage bars sweat.gif

Yeah, took me quite a while to complete it too... Read summore, edit... Read lagi, found something else to edit... Haha...

If your neighbour's Hibiscus is a lot and bushy, you can take some, sure won't notice one tongue.gif

My mum-in-law's is quite a lot, got some big trunks at the bottom too... I take the medium size one first, with lotsa small branches at the top smile.gif When balik kampung again, sure gotta get summore wink.gif

I think if can get Guava branches would be nicer, but there's no Guava tree there... Rose apple(Jambu air) tree ada lar, but I dunno can or not...

When I was back in kampung, felt like letting my suggies outdoors, you know let them climb up some trees, hang around or glide around a bit... BUT... Ofcourse I'm worried they won't come back, so I didn't... Very tempted to do so, cuz I like seeing the squirrels climb and jump about the tress there...

Added on November 2, 2007, 12:41 pmHun,

Looked up on the Sunseed Quicko Food tu, well, it is available online and in the US definitely, but there is no recommendation or even reviews on the product...

I think the main reason PS brings in that food is because it is cheap. The price is definitely cheaper than those recommended ones and I presume buying in bulk they'll get it even cheaper...

Why lar they can bring in something proper shakehead.gif

Thanks so much Ryo' for being the detective and taking those pictures notworthy.gif

From the tree trunk, it does look like eucalyptus tree cuz eucalyptus tree trunk has all those patches and sometimes in watercolor like colors.

I think the ultimate test would be to break some fresh leaves and give it a sniff... If it smells like one, then it definitely is eucalyptus!

If they have chopped down some, where do they throw the trunk and branches? Mebbe I can go salvage some, haha tongue.gif

Btw, where is your apartment?

Good work!

Haha, no worries smile.gif

Eucalyptus is famous for it's essential oil, it is good to help relieve stuffy nose and cold. I think the best I can explain how it smells is that it kinda has a smell like "minyak angin" tongue.gif Hahaha laugh.gif

Aihhh, if they throw it nearby kan easy to collect tongue.gif

Ohh, your place is in Cheras... So out of my way, but if I happen to be there, I would definitely look out for the tree!

Thanks!

Don't worry, I already kept 2 branches in my car boot laugh.gif Do contact me if you want to drop by, hehe
I think barks are easier to get compare to branches smile.gif

Left only one tree? blink.gif

Wah, we must all go and attack it before they chop it down too!

QUOTE(shelter_7 @ Nov 3 2007, 05:45 PM)
oh ok .. thx for the information . but i dont think i can take care "too young" joey . as 1st page stated , do not buy joey tat havent matured enuff , more then 8 weeks is safe for me to tame n care . "too young" joey still need mother milk
*

Yes, underage joey whom did not get enough of their mother's milk grows lesser than the ones which gets enough of their mother's milk.

Not getting enough of their mother's milk also means that they lack of the necessary nutrient and will have shorter lifespan (lesser than the average lifespan).

That is why we stress on getting a joey of the right age and has gotten the right amount nutrition, care and fully weaned from their parents.

QUOTE(hackerzx @ Nov 3 2007, 08:12 PM)

this is the glider i got from a friend...
he isnt that tame... everytime i hold him... he will try to get away... =(

guess i would need alot more time to bond with him... =(
*

Ofcourse, you will need a lot more time to bond with him.

Do not expect him to bond with you over night. With the right way it can be as fast as 2 weeks or up to months(if not so the right way...)

Patience and persistance is the key!

Anyway, welcome!

QUOTE(kayz1e @ Nov 5 2007, 01:12 AM)
haha.. yea... challenging la.. i wonder when would be the day he will jump to me on his own will, instead of me having to catch him all the time...

for the time being.. i feed my glider quiko pallet... some mealworms... apples.. crickets... thinking of getting him the smoothies..
u mind sharing your "OWN" glider's fav food ?
*

When my first glider jumped back to me on his will or when I coax him to, it is worth all the hard times, crabbings and bites!

smile.gif

Aiii, please don't feed your glider Quicko pallet, there is no proper recommendation on the food itself, plus the ingredients make you wonder the whole way...

The reason why that food is brought in here is because it is cheaper than those recommended ones.

You can refer to my diet write-up in the 1st page for all the information on glider diet and even a whole list of fruits that you can try plus some remarks about it wink.gif

Good luck!

A 2 year old glider that has not had his nails trimmed can definitely leave a lot of puncture holes. I pray that he is not a big fella, or else it would definitely hurt a lot tongue.gif

Nail trimming has been discussed previously and there are some websites offering detailed guides on how to do the nail trimming.

However, I shall refresh everyone's memory again.

1st and foremost it is best to trim your suggies nail while they are sleeping or half asleep. You can slowly pick up their little feet and do your job easily. But if your suggie is a light sleeper, then you will need time to gain their trust by often playing or massaging their little feet smile.gif

All you need to trim is the very sharp tip of their nail, not too much as they have a blood vein running in their upper nail just like cats do. Plus trimming too much can cause difficulty climbing or grabbing onto you.

Here's a closer picture guide of where to cut courtesy from petsugargliders.com

user posted image

Another thing to keep in mind is that you must have a firm hold on your suggies feet to avoid any accidents if they pull back and everything must be done as quickly and as swiftly possible smile.gif

Ohh, and "gutload your mealworms" means that you must "feed" the mealworms first. This is because the mealworms that you buy are not feed properly and contains very little nutrition/benefit for your suggie. Gutload/feed your mealworms with fresh vege/carrots and you can add supplements to them if you have it. Never gutload/feed your mealworms with something watery or easy to rot like fruits and such. Any excessive vege/carrots must be removed after leaving them overnight. Then replace those fresh vege/carrots with an oatmeal bedding.

No idea what they mean by Nutrient Food.

But it is a wrong info lah vmad.gif

It is suppose to be 70% fruits and vege (which ofcourse is full of nutrition) and the balance 30% is protein which can consist of/come from meal worms, crickets, boiled eggs and boiled white chicken meat.

Sugar gliders mainly eat fruits and tree saps/manna in the wild, thus 70% of their diet must come from fruits...

They like sweet tasting substance, thus the name "Sugar glider".

It is sad that most of our local pet shop gives out wrong information about sugar glider diet.

Yeah, I pm'ed you about the Quicko already right? Cuz I searched for it too, but no proven or good recommendation at all.

Dull fur and lanky body? blink.gif

Eii, don wan lah... I want my suggies fat-fat one!

See, even something as basic as fruits are better than those stupid pallets...

I'm trying hard to fatten up my suggies, even giving them extra mealworms... But Iggy doesn't seem to gain weight, only Luna seems chubbier... Mebbe cuz Iggy is more active perhaps...

Haha, that's normal.

Most suggies will poo or pee the first few minutes when they're out or woke up.

Some suggies will poo or pee cuz they're scared or not used to people.

Normal poops are easy to clean cuz they're solid, just pick up and throw away, but those not so normal poops and pee is a bit of a hassle to clean if you need to run to work tongue.gif

Iggy has no balding problem anymore smile.gif

Without anymore balding, Iggy is getting handsome-r by day tongue.gif wub.gif

But he still does his marking action from time to time laugh.gif Although no marking substance are left sweat.gif I think he's just used to it.

Overall, yeah, it takes about 1 month plus for the hormones to totally gone smile.gif

Ohh, and his cage area doesn't smell of his marking scent anymore, just poo smell and slowly rotting fruit smell, hahaha laugh.gif

OMG, have you ever seen a video of glider named "momonga" on youtube?

The one where the owner gives it a massage?

Damn cute!

Momonga the glider loves to being rubbed/massaged just like a cat! On the tummy area and under the neck...

In the video, Momonga was on her back and the owner massage-massage till the head was so tilted back like so enjoying it...

I'll try look for the video link smile.gif

Oh yea, the pet shop selling those cotton stick with medicine is it suitable for clean suger glider ears? Or i better use water + normal cotton stick to clean it slowly?

I feel like quite hard and stick there ( Maybe is too long time ) But sometime when i use nail to scrash it slowly, it look like drop skin like that.... somemore i scrash the wax comet out with cotton stick, I see my Ah Pit ear got a very small triangle shape cut area like Stich like that... quite scary to continue to clean her ears.
*

Not all gliders can do like that... That is sure one super-duper tamed glider...

Hmm, I'm not sure if we should or can be cleaning glider's ear... I've never done it when I had only 1 glider before... He seems to be able to groom himself...

*

Like Hun said, bonding take time and will not happen overnight or a week...

During active period any glider will less likely to stick to you, they would want to explore or glide or climb around... What makes them bonded to you is that if they will occasionally jump back to you or come to you when you coax/call him smile.gif

This takes a lot of time and practise smile.gif

Normally during daytime/their sleep time, they'd be sticking to you like glue smile.gif

Haha, I think half of the glider owners here are still students smile.gif

It's also a matter of time and attention. A glider needs a lot of those compared to a hedgie.

Haha, some gliders you can't simply touch, unless you know they are used to or friendly to other people. Like my male glider lah, there a way to approach him or touch him, if you got it wrong, he might just bite you tongue.gif
