Hi! This is a bit long but I am already thinking too much after reading all the comments, threads, YouTube reviews, I love Jarrod's Tech and LowSpecsGamer. Please recommend a laptop:
1) Gaming. I game from indie Stardew Valley, oldie Age of Empire II, L4D2, remastered Mafia, Days Gone, Skyrim, Gothic all the way to upcoming new Baldur's Gate 3. And YouTube. Don't need 4k ultra settings or Ray Tracing though I guess I could now play Witcher 3 in ultra with current generation haha (Gameplay > Graphics)
2) Bang for buck. My current laptop is 7 years old. Still gaming though already feeling the obsolences since I just bought Witcher 3. Budget about 4.5k but can stretch to max 5k if worth the investment. Prefer not to as I have opened a GPD fund (I am so attracted to the GPD Win ,Aya Neo, Steam Deck but the prices and whether I might as well get a cheapo laptop and do in home streaming TT or just play indie)
A lot of the reviews say RTX is not that much of an improvement over the GTX. Not sure about how this scale up in the future. My bang for buck is making me look at GTX XD, I have the possibility of using desktop later and the laptop will have the benefit of Steam's In Home Streaming.
4) Waiting Time: not a problem. But how long will they normally take? Just to manage my expectations biggrin.gif
5) 14" to 15.6" screen thereabouts, I can sacrifice lightweight for quality build and cooling.
6) Should i buy a middle top-tier now (GTX), while waiting for Win 11? Win 10 Home is so annoying if they won't let me postpone game breaking . Currently on 8.1, never had to suffer Win10 yet on my games.
I got so many questions...apologies for the long read!

1. For this budget you can only get entry level RTX3060 laptops
2. Improvement over what? Raw rasterization performance? The statement is vague
3. Depends on model
4. W11 is based on W10...

I didn;t even think I could get a 30 series with this. What do you mean entry level, as in bottlenecked at CPU tat kind of thing?

2. Improvement over what? Raw rasterization performance? The statement is vague

No doubt the newer card is an improvement of overall performance but to my non technical eyes, the not-significant uptick in performance needs to match the price.
Btw, how do I differentiate the Legions naming convention? 5, 7, "i"? I haven't check out those other brands mentioned sometimes, so far only peeking at Lenovo and Asus.

3. Depends on model
ok.

4. W11 is based on W10...
arghh. My friend told me to get the Win10 Pro Edition for more control. Might have to get a key somewhere, need to shave expenses. Already Win10 has issues with older games.

1. Low GPU TGP, no MUX, low sRGB screen
2. You shouldn't use desktop cards for comparison...the GPU performance depends on the model (TGP, cooling), however in general RTX is still faster in rasterization

# microsoft office
# zoom, webex, google meet calls
# a bit of torrenting for watching movies/series

3. Requirement (display size, battery life, weight etc)
# around 14"-16"
# decent battery life (8 hours I guess)

256GB SSD? Sure.

2c4t i3 CPU, I'm not so sure about this one...will it be slow with an i3?
