Dear sifu, I am currently considering the following 2 options:

1. ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (UX3405) Intel Ultra 5
2. ASUS Vivobook S14 OLED (S5406) Intel Ultra 5

Both very similar specs, price difference is small. But Zenbook 14 feels more premium and screen is 3K, 120 Hz. But Vivobook has extra USB-A and microSD port.

Anyone has experience with either of them? How would you suggest?

Thank you.
*
If i were you, zenbook is great.. not sure how freqeuent you use microSD port.. unless you willing to buy additional extension that can provide more usb port, network, display/hdmi.
zenbook indeed premium and focusing high end focusing portability with consistent computing power. it also better build quality

Need 1 for coding/work
I already have a macbook m3 pro given by company, i am very impressed with it, and i want to find its windows equivalent
will be running
Docker
redis insight
postgres/mysql/mongo all that sstuff
vscode/cursor/atom/pycharm
python 3.12 and pip
npm and node
altium designer
android studio
arduino
dbeaver/postico
easyEDA
git
wireshark
all kinds of stuff but the most resource heavy should be Docker

will also dual boot ubuntu, either that or wsl
RAM - 16GB -32GB
SSD - 1TB
Processor - ideally 12 gen and above, no preference for i3, 5, 7
no preference on screen size, will plug in monitor to use anyway.

budget, given my spec, the laptop has to be 4k above?

there are lots of brands but i really cant decided, hp, lenovo, msi?
*
equivalent to mac m3 pro.
if you looking at portable too, then you can consider ThinkPad X1 Series , more power computing ThinkPad P Series.. if you using many of those many simulator, i think better to have 32Gb for future proof. SSD is up to you. but RAM 32Gb is seems like sweetspot at the moment. or running VM. if dual boot then 16gb is more than enough.

why lenovo??? consistent quality over the years so far. not regreting to get it. why not MSI as stated there, because the offering they have kinda off from what lenovo can offer and to fit similar segment with macbook, a little bit off.
for HP, how about probook, zenbook or omnibook.. see which one suits you.

remember Acer Nitro and Gigabyte G5 or was it G6? has the best bang for buck for RTX4060, they usually price between rm4,300 to 4,600 last year.
but please remember to check reviews for the GPU watt. anything above 100w for the GPU should have decent performance . and also review on cooling.
*
Heard Acer nitro fan is very noisy, and gigabyte 4060 power draw max 75w only, correct me if I'm wrong.

Best option I think still the Lenovo..but now I confuse which to choose..official website loq series doesn't have 4060..

Yes enough....as far as i looking at this. it is enough.. if you have extra cash.. 32 Gb is great. but 16gb for time being is sufficient enough.

It is for my primary school nephew actually, so i guess 5~6 years usage should be enuf? (unless technology advance too fast)

yes you are right, the Gigabyte G5 only 75w which for a RTX4060 is crippling.
not too sure about Acer Nitro fan being noisy.

weird that the LOQ on website does offer RTX 4060 but not in config. and it is a 115w some more...
shopee seems to listed a few LOQ with RTX4060 around price 4.3K-4.5K , hope that helps.
my best advise is maybe you can try to call Lenovo up about this or how to config RTX4060 or when available?

After weeks of searching, I decided to go for loq 15arp9 (7434hs/512gb ssd/12gb ram/4060) at rm4110 only.

But now the problem is the ram. There's no 12gb ram stick in the market. Can dual channel still active if I install 8gb stick?

if i am not wrong, 12gb + 8gb
8gb +8gb will run in dual channel and remaining 4gb will run in single mode. you can google more about this 👍🏻

There is nothing special about dual channel. Just think of it as two lane road. When you install 1 stick, it will only use 1 lane... 2 stick then 2 lanes are used.

u check it is 1 soldered ram with 1 ram slot... this is important.. soldered ram with 1 ram slot means the laptop can only run with single channel.. no matter how many ram u add
