Hi sifus, needed rekomen for smtg quick i.e. ready stock prebuilt or within 1 week.

Budget: around 3 -3.5k
Anything decent with mx450 for the above budget?
Will mostly be casual usage but will be running android emulator hence would prefer to have upgradable ram or come with 16gb ram.
Not picky with screen as it will mostly be connected to external monitor.
Preferably to be a thin and light (13" or 14") as will be travelling occasionally. Battery life is not much of a concern too as it will be connected most of the time.

Just find customizable self upgradable to 16gb thinkpad E14 G3 (ship with 3-6 days one)

Ready stock other than lenovo no others with upgradable ram or 16gb, most with soldered 8gb onboard

Emulator is enough with integrated graphics. No need MX (is like half bucket water version of geforce, just no worth it if you can up a bit budget for proper gtx 1650)

MSI is pathetic nowadays even GP66 the second class below GE series also NO type c or thunderbolt/dp out

Those low end GPU typically not gonna be used for any gaming or graphic acceleration usages either, so most of the time they’re just worth as much as iGPU, so long as they’re powerful enough to drive your video usages (of which modern iGPU definitely should).

8+8 should still have the advantage over solely 8, for its dual channel and iGPU won’t take more than 2-4GB RAM. Dual channel RAM means a more responsive system performance too.

Not much commend on the Thinkpad, just feels that their price are so much inflated and inflexible vs what’s available last year or even few years back. But well, we all know that chips market sucks now and it’s still lucky to not have 100% price increase like graphic cards did.

Computing wise, 5500u definitely more than enough for your expected needs.

Nowadays they no longer drop price for last gen products. Though it will still feel real sucky to know your newly bought purchases got a newer and better version right after you got it.

Finally placed an order, 1 week after my pc died. Got an IdeaPad 5i with Intel i5, 8GB RAM, MX450, 512 GB SSD and sRGB FHD for just a little over RM3000. Thanks everyone for your input, esp msacras. Now is the waiting game

Yeah, base model comes with i3 processor. That's why I missed this earlier because I filtered out i3 and Ryzen 3.

BTW, mind share your final configured specs?

I noticed that Lenovo only bundle MX450 with i7. Also don't forget to grab the MS office home and student.

The MX450 is also a customized from the base.
I selected Microsoft Office Trial because couldn't use the coupon with the MS office home and student. Accidently discovered this. Already have O365 so fine for me.

Also, I think you get extra model with customizable option using edu account. For example, can customize ThinkPad E15 Gen 3.
