PROJECT: Erection of Bungalow in Kota Kemuning
Topic: External Envelope After getting done with the rc structural frame, we move on to the construction of external envelope. In this scenario, we applied individual units of bricks with usage of mortar as binding material. Laying of bricks require skills. There might be different types of bonding such as stretcher bond or header bond, with the intention to make the wall react as a solid structure. We always set up the string line while laying bricks to ensure an equal height as usual. Sufficient mortar being applied between the bricks so that the strength of wall will not compromised. So, do consult an expertise as sometimes when your wall is too long, you might need to include rc stiffener in between the brick works for structural purpose. As you can see in the photos also, above every openings either windows/doors, it is a must to include lintel, with minimum of 100mm depending on your loads and opening sizes. It acts as a small beam for safety issue. Hope you enjoy, thanks! |

PROJECT: Erection of Bungalow in Kota Kemuning
Topic: Structural Elements and Coverings No matter how many storey of house, it requires rc columns and beams to transmit all of the loads from the top to the bottom. We used to discuss about formwork before. we knew that concrete is very heavy, and to wait it gets hard, it needs time. Easy way to say, metal props are needed to withstand the weight until it becomes self-supporting, and of course, concrete test is needed to ensure every single things being constructed is safe to be used by occupants later. Talking about the roof coverings, it is a very good topic to explore which include all of the structural support, water drains issue, insulation, roof tiling and more. Hopefully we can further elaborate in future. However, from the reference photos we had shown above, you could clearly see our neat works while constructing the roof truss and laying of tiles. We concern about the functionality, including the proper spanning based on engineer's calculation, the standard roof overhang and also the detailing while concealing of the the structures with fascia board. Hope you enjoy our works sharing. Thanks! |

Topic: Tiling and Finishing For your information, laying of roof tiles requires horizontal support known as batten screwing on the trusses. It is a criss-cross elements which are necessary for the tiles to hang over it. One things that you might not aware of, laying of roof tiles always start from the bottom and will be laid up to the top. If it happens in another way round, things get wrong and water seepage will occur. Lastly, we proceed to the finishing work. The walls erected required an external layer of render or appropriate finishes material like cement render and paint to give a pleasant view. However, the finishes can be vary as it depends on the way you wish your house to look like. |

Project 4: Bungalow Design + Construction
Topic: Fast Overview of Overall Progress For our sharing today, it is definitely one of our good project. Everything starts from basic. Starting from investigating the interaction between building loads with various soil, rock and water condition below, a suitable foundation design is a must to be accounted. Professionally consulting with all consultants, every single details in the structural members constructed were specially calculated and designed, from piling and foundation to the ground beams, columns and beams, etc. Concrete is an universal building material whereby it can be cast into different forms you like with the formworks. Do not fix your mind on rectangular design as things can still be constructed based on budgeting parameters. While for the external wall construction, we do consider a lot of basic needs, from the protection from moisture, cracks and thermal such as drip details, dpc, flashing, groove line, insulations etc. to ensure the comfort of users. Do enjoy our photos shared on our work, as they means alot to us. Feel free to visit our previous posts shared to know more about the detailed construction projects we made. Enjoy! |

Sifu, can I ask ya, if I want to extend only ground floor without first floor (no budget), will it be very ugly? Do we still need to depend on soil condition? Since no need to support weight for first floor. Also, roughly how much would it cost if let's say I just do a simple rectangle with (1 wall in the middle to split) width 28 ft, extend 5ft. Hope you understand my last question without pictures My Maison liked this post

Project 4: Bungalow Design + Construction
Topic: Teamwork makes everything possible A good design without proper construction method means nothing, but with a good workmanship and skills, it can definitely turns 2D design into reality, with excellent value return. Coming up with external envelope and internal construction, of cause we need finishing work such as plastering for the brickworks, skim coat for the brickwalls and painting as final rendering. We work together with all parties, from designer electrician to the carpentry, as all of these are about teamwork. Hope you enjoy our final outcome of design and works. Thanks! |

Project: Alam Impian Housing Plaster Ceiling Work
Topic: Electrical Wiring Setting Out A good lighting is important in providing comfort. Beside considering on your needs with the amount of lighting for the space and also the plaster ceiling design, all of the electrical points setting out and wiring routes must firstly done. And for sure, protection towards the area is always our concern as well. Rigid PVC conduit for electrical installation are used with other fittings suchas 2-way, 3-way, 4-way box etc. provides the route for your wiring route, helps organising your wire, giving protection while we works with other construction works. Lets see how it works together wit plaster ceiling design on our next sharing! |

Project: Alam Impian Housing Plaster Ceiling Work
Topic: Proposed Ceiling Design After having consideration towards the lighting and switch points, we proceed with the plaster ceiling works. There are ways of designing as it depends a lot on your lighting behaviour and mood of design. Ceiling has multiple functions such as providing a platform for lighting fixtures to install, concealing piping/ tubing / wires above for a neat work, hiding the presence of beam which can affect the aesthetic and etc. Depending on the budgeting parameter, you could design your lighting together with ceiling design such as magnetic track lighting, strip lighting, eyeball, downlight and more. Plasterboards used are strong and light and they are very easy to install. We firstly set out the spacing of metal frame structures by marking the setting out with pencil. Each of the aluminium frame pieces are cut and screw in place, giving a platform for plasterboard to hung on it later. Cut the plasterboard according to sizing as fitted to each corner of the wall. Lastly, apply at least two layers of skim coat to fill up the gap in between different pieces of plasterboard, while at the same time creating a flat and uniform finish surface. Do consider about the proposed ceiling height as too low of ceiling might cause discomfort towards the family as the spaces might looks even smaller than before. Hope you enjoy my sharing today ! |
