I've been reading for a while now ... and wondering ..

Is it really worth Jailbreaking it ? ..
I mean, what on the Iphone Apps that you really really want to have on your ITouch ? ..

Those .. " MUST HAVE " ones ... the kinds that make you really satisfied with it .. haha ..

and regarding the Safari thing, remember that we .. need to .. or it'll for sure crash during our jailbreak, when we're done jailbreaking it, is it still crash or ... it's alright after the 2 times Switch Off and On ?

Scroll up a few posts to check the links i provided. A One-click no-nonsense solution. The ones with "jailbreak.bat" is a bit iffy IMO.

Dont do it on Vista, even on the iPhone unlocking scene, Vista causes too much headaches.

Surprisingly, Apple's own. Mail, WEather, Stocks, Notes and Maps are sorely missed from the iPhone. Also, i have ApolloIM for my instant messenging needs, Customise+Dock+Summerboard combo to make my iPod Touch look more like an individual, and less like a drone tongue.gif ,MusicQuiz for that moment when i wanna loosen up and play the song guessing game (also motivates me to listen to all the songs i have). The rest come and goes so i wont bother listing them up here, these are the ones which are permanently on both my iPhone and my iPod Touch. Hell, modding and skinning the GUI alone takes a lot of time!

If you are not familiar with WinSCP, just follow the guide you are using for jailbreaking STRICTLY. Fooling around with WinSCP may result in accidentally removing vital files, thus needing a Restore, or worse, bricking the iPod Touch entirely.

For transferring other songs from other computer, older iPod solutions like Anapod, or Senuti may work, though i cant vouch for their working state.

Erm, well i thought it doesn't matter anymore because that is for Mac isn't it?

Regarding jailbreaking on Vista. My advice is still go for it, people. There have been more successful cases reported than screw ups like mine. For the record, i tried jailbreaking in an XP machine too but it gave me same error. I'll try using another method today.

Make sureyou are using your own local Wifi network, not public ones. You need the right IP address of your iPod Touch to connect, therwise it will always give the network reconnection error.

You can use Customise to do that, use the rSBT function within Customise. You can get Customise from within Installer/AppTapp. If that doesnt work, you will have to find a Plist editor, to edit the N45AP.plist , that takes care of the order of icons appearing on your Spring/Summerboard and on your Dock. You can even squeeze another icon onto the Dock, making it a full five icons.

If Customise doesnt work, you can get iOrder to do it via this link. A video tutorial is available here, or you could generate your own N45AP.plist by using this script, mind you it's a vbscript, so some might not be so comfortable using it.

Stringfellow, did you run into problems when u install any apps on ur touch? I tried installing Summerboard. When it asked me to restart i didn't (according to the tutorial). I go back to the homescreen and the apple 'please wait' circle keep moving and all the icons now became unresponsive. when i reboot, it got stuck at the apple screen logo. Restored like a million times already now =(

Btw, did you uninstall Pogo1Stick?

Summerboard is tricky. What you need to do is to install Summerboard within Installer, to establish its file structure and registering itself in root. After this you can either reboot, or continue wiht the next step.

Rebooting will result in your Dock appearing at the top instead of the usual bottom. This is why i continued with the next step.

Next, download the alpha version of Summerboard from this link, extract it into a folder. Install instructions is in the Install.FILE file, so you need to open it using Wordpad to view it.

Then open your FTP program (WinSCP, CuteFTP), and SSH into your iPod Touch. from within your Wifi network Yo can get your iPod Touch IP address from your Setting>Wifi> *YOUR SSID* and that little blue arrow. Use this IP address into your FTP program , and in that connection box , username is "root", password is "alpine".

Navigate to these directories and copy the file over from the content extracted from that zip file previously, you will be writing over them:-

/Library/Frameworks/SummerBoard.framework
/Applications/SMBPrefs.app
/var/root/Library/SummerBoard/Themes
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist

What you are doing is replacing those files with the files from in the zipfile.

Once you have successfully replaced these 4 files/folders , you need to set all permissions on the new files/folders to 0755. This will give you the ability to read, write, and execute on each file. In the case of a folder, make sure the permissions are set recursively.

To set permissions using WinSCP,right click on the file or folder, go to Properties. Then type in "0755" in the Octal field. Click OK, rinse and repeat for all the other files.

Reboot, and enjoy your new Summerboard. You can install more new themes from within Installer or SSH/FTP the folders into /var/root/Library/Summerboard/Themes/ . You can also use the file manager/explorer on iBrickr, but you still need to set the permission to 0755 to enable these apps go run. Failure of doing so will result in buggy operation or non-working apps. This is because all of these apps are made to run on iPhone , which have different set permission value, which is "0644". Changing the set permission to "0755" rectifies this, although not all apps will run this way.

Post the link, bro. All this SSHing and FTPing and set permissions may scare the newbies away.

There are conflicting instructions and reports on this. Some say can remove but others had their Touch hang on them at reboot, forcing a manual Restore. I simply left it there.

Used this one too but i realized we might still install summerboard ourselves. If you try downloading a theme from installer.app, it will prompt you to install summerboard 1st.
