Fyi, .......

https://wccftech.com/microsoft-windows-11-w...us-performance/ - Microsoft Windows 11 Will Boost Intel Alder Lake (And Other big.LITTLE CPUs) Performance - 20 June 2021

The 12th-gen Intel Alder Lake x86 CPU coming this Fall is a hybrid CPU with a mix of high-performance(= power-hogging) Cores and energy-efficient(= power-saving) Cores (6+8 or 8+8), similar to Apple's M1 ARM CPU inside the latest Mac Mini, Macbooks, iMac and iPad.

It may be worthwhile for those who intend to buy mobile laptops to wait for the above since x86 > ARM wrt apps/programs/software/games, ie Intel Alder Lake hybrid CPU running Windows 11 for their battery-power-saving feature and good performance - not worth if buying AC-powered desktops.

bit of nit-picking: the big.LITTLE architecture is actually decade old of tech already, ARM is the inventor and been using on iphone and qualcomm chip since 2014.

it's always good to try new stuff since efficient cores helps a lot of battery life, for example when you browsing web on your phone, the battery does not drain and phone does not warm up because it's using the little cores, hopefully it will work for intel as well as windows 11.

Desktop will benefits too, when you're not gaming, rendering or photo editing, only efficient cores is running, it reduce noise and power consumption. heat reduced as well, it will prolong the hardware because your cpu is not dumping the wasted heat.

Is it worth updating? Will it slow down my current speed or anything?

if its your pc for work, dont try.
if gaming pc or casual use still okay.

It's already faster than Win10 on nvme, my boot time now less than 1 mins, i had slow boot issue for years, my old router start up faster than my win10 gaming pc, talks about shit optimization.

and btw, you will hate the new start menu and task bar, Win11 UX is kind of awkward to use lol

Energy-efficient and low-power-wattage/power-sipping, and BIG.little processors (= lower performance) were a requirement for battery-powered mobile smartphones and tablets = ARM architecture = RISC.
....... Not so for AC-powered immobile desktop computers, some of which are required to be very high-performance(= power-hogs), eg Cloud-servers, data-servers, AAA-gamers, video-editing, AAA-game development, 3D computer graphics, etc = x86 architecture = CISC. .......

https://www.androidauthority.com/arms-secre...cessing-409850/ - ARM’s secret recipe for power efficient processing
There are several different companies that design microprocessors. There is Intel, AMD, Imagination (MIPS), and Oracle (Sun SPARC) to name a few. However, none of these companies is known exclusively for their power efficiency. One company that does specialize in energy efficient processors is ARM. - Gary Sims - November 20, 2014
.

Because Apple has introduced ARM M1 processors for its Mac computers in Nov 2020, Intel and M$ are responding to the threat with the x86 Alder Lake processor and Windows 11 in Fall 2021.

Ya it do look a bit like as the Start is on center now (you can change to left anytime), but I love it. Haha! It is simple, clean nicer interface and easier to use.

Today 1st beta is out for Beta Channel, which means it already pass Dev Channel and release to more user to test.
https://www.xda-developers.com/windows-11-b...eck-your-rings/

Basically it is very stable & smooth to me beside some tiny bugs. Some user that facing many bugs probably due to it original OS already buggy.

Skylake is not in support CPU, it is far from the support list. Your friend should not force installation on it.
Also system Skylake means possible a lot of old software, no surprise Microsoft is not going to support it. New OS means for more recent apps. This is apply to any software development, include Android OS and iOS/iPad OS.

Anyway Microsoft is plan for more control to prohibited installation using bypass method.

While excited, I can't help but be hesitant to be an early adopter. Just too comfortable with Windows 10 so far.

Maybe will jump on the bandwagon once "SP2" is out? hmm.gif

Success install Windows 11 Latest Beta OS Build 22000.100 to this doesn't meet the minimum requirement Illegear Z5 Laptop. rclxm9.gif

So far so good. Performance is similar as in Windows 10. Microsoft really should reconsider the CPU support and also removed that TPM 2.0 requirement.

I can't tell the differences on performance Windows 10 v/s Windows 11.
It is quite identical in both.

Even now I install at not support CPU, a year 2016 laptop - Intel Core i7-6700HQ. The performance is as great as Windows 10.

As long as your OS drive is SSD, everything will running perfectly fine and smooth.

Now just need to wait Microsoft settle those bugs and make everywhere Windows 11 looks and feels. biggrin.gif

If everything running smooth, Microsoft is targeting October and not late than first quarter in year 2022.
