I wanna get a raspberry pi 4 to build vpn server. It'll be headless so consume less resources.
But I wonder should I get a case with active fan cooling or just aluminum casing with passive cooling is good enough?

I measure the temperature is 33'c in the room where I'll locate my raspberry pi 4.
El Niño will return this year so expect the weather will be hot.

Get active fan cooling,as Pi4 is really hot.
Or Passive cooling with additional fan. (I am using passive cooling case with usb fan)

But i dont recommend to buy Pi 4 anymore,as nowadays Intel Small form factor AIO mini PC is much more powerful and power efficient.
Just spend abit more,and you will get a much more powerful machine. (minimum almost 4-5X performance and power usage only more 1-2w)

I also going to get a Intel i3 N305 mini PC from China brand. (N305 abit more expensive,just get N100 enough for 99% idle usage)

Indeed the temperate 32'c+ in Msia is much higher than 20'c+ in western countries where passive cooling might works for them.

I just wanna build a headless server so pi 4 suits my needs.
I think Intel NUC costs much higher and performance is overkill for me.
It really depends on what you need.

nowadays many router come with vpn service . can choose openvpn or pptp .
i am using a asus rt ac 2600

that's just a client, you still need a server to connect to

nowadays wireguard is newer than openvpn.

router come with both openvpn server and client capability.

Connecting game to Japanese server kinda stuck at night. Been happened for 3 nights already.

same.. since 31 may.. connect to US amazon game server is LAG so bad... ping is 250-300.. but seem like the line speed is cap at 50kb/s??? take 5-10min to loading into the game (cause when loading the game need to download some thing like 2-5mb file from server.. ) , also the game is unplayable.. lag spike like HELL...

but the problem is GONE betweem 2am-6am !

Not the first time, imagine if can maintain 200-300ms ping all day like you get at 2am - 6am, 300ms isn't asking much is it?

Change ISP if you can, Tmnut/unifi is 3rd rate ISP in Msia. This issue is ongoing since 2021 and possibly earlier. Some times you have months of good ping all day, then few months of good ping at 2-6am only, but price still paid in full
