Oh yes, I am aware of the higher battery usage as well as shortening the life of the vibrator motor but then, it just feels superb. U hv Omnia, you sud know how different it is compared to KS20 without haptics. biggrin.gif

By the way DrWho, do u hv any comments about the "screen sensitivity" we talked about on the last page?
*
I have disabled the Haptics on my Omnia.

My missus is now using the KS20 so I can't check now. There is no logic about the MaxCalError utilising that amount of additional resources. Before the recalibrating of the screen sensitivity, I practically almost have to stab the screen to execute a command. More so when tapping a very small icon.

Try this. Soft reset and check memory status. Recalibrate sensitivity and soft reset and check memory status. See the difference.

hi guys, new ks20 owner here. hehe... does anyone know how to make video call thru this pda? i tried to do the setting but maxis doesn't seem to have it. any idea guys?

Welcome to this forum. The simplest and quickest way is to request all the configuration settings from Maxis.com.my from your PC. They will send the setting to you almost immediately.

Hi DrWho,

I did what you've mentioned actually. My free Ram was hovering around 31-32mb but after setting the sensitivity to 20, it went down to 29.xx. It was okay initially after soft-reset but after using some applications, it went down to 29.xx and will not come up again even I tried FreeRam.

At first, I thought it was the new GIF I used for my S2U2. After that, the phone lags more frequently (like I mentioned to you before abt my lagging). So I've decided to try setting the setting back to 16 and do a soft-reset. Since then, even with the same GIF for S2U2, it stays around 32mb all the time and the feeling of lagging does not happen anymore.
*
I don't have time to test the KS20 extensively like what you have done. He is my findings:

Immediately after soft reset memories are almost the same with 22 having 0.1MB higher memory than 16.
22 seems to give a faster response than 16.
I have no possible explanation for our different experiences, except MW6.1 versus WM6.0

Tweak For Extreme Speed

I noticed a few of KS20 users are experiencing lag problem on the device. Goto this site and download MemMaid:

http://classic.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14279

MemMaid is similar to SKTools and have a special feature where the program can tweak the device either for Speed, Memory, Extreme Memory or Extreme Speed.

From the MemMaid program goto Jump To>Tweaks>System Tweak>Optimize. Choose your option.

The downloaded software is a for Trial only. Install and tweak. If you like it, purchase or use it until the trial period expires. At least then your device is tweaked to your preference setting. I am not sure whether the setting will go back to default after the expiry of the trial period. I don't think so. I am using a licensed copy.

It is worth a try. No venture no gain brows.gif

At the PC run the program and Active Sync will download this program to your device the next time you connect your Device to the PC. Or run the program at PC while Device is connected to PC

How to reinstate your phone after "formatting the hard disc" in your WM smartphone

To avoid losing all your precious data, programs and configuration after a Hard Reset, you should backup all your data including system data. Two good programs capable of this, are Spb Backup and Sprite Backup. Once you have installed any of this program and have backup all your data, you will have no fear of a Hard Reset. I did a ROM flashing and restored all the data, programs and configuration in less than half an hour. The phone was back to its original state without any need to reinstall programs or configuration. I only need to reset the time and date.

I now have no worry of a Hard Reset tongue.gif There is a comparison between the two programs somewhere in the net and Sprite came out better.

DrWho,

good sunday morning.

reporting on MemMaid : -

it is runnig well and it can tweak the system for extreme speed and extreme memory.

however, it appears that it does the same thing as SKTool? yes, KS20 now runs smooth and well (at the moment).  nonetheless, there are bad times: -

1.  it goes blonk! blonk! blonk! and hanged after tweaking (rarely only)
2.  phone anged totally when 2 tasks are performed at the same time. for example, when surfing the net and when there is incoming call, it simply hangs!!!

i guess it is the way it goes for KS20. but tolerable yeah.

thanks.

little p/s: hows the omnia? my friend is selling a full set, 8gb for about 1.65k.  but i am getting an iphone do you think they are about the same in terms of functionality and trend? if yes, then there is no point to consider, as samsung software is really slow such as the U600 and U700 and W580i.
*
Glad to hear your KS20 is running smooth and well. It should. KS20 has a stable firmware. It only hangs when you are trying to run too many plugins at the same time. Try to minimize the plugins and the KS20 will be very stable. My KS20 has always been very stable.

There are many application programs for WM phone but very limited for iphone and most of them will cost you $$

hi again.... is there a way to play all the movie files eg .avi, .vlc
types of files on ks2o?
even some of the movie in mpg format cant be played sad.gif

was hoping to watch my downloaded heroes on my ks20

Yes KS20 can play avi movies. There are two requirements for it to play successfully, the movie MUST be converted correctly to avi for PPC and your player MUST have the correct codec.

The battery will drain very fast when playing video.

The Sandisk micro SD adapter is free when you buy a 8GB SDHC. I have 2 of these but misplaced one of them, I supposed due to the size.

but i still cant play the videos despite tryin it here an there. it is still .avi file. also cant seem to play mpeg files too. esp the ones that i dragged from my pc.

how do i get the codec? kinda blurr pot here... hehe

The best Dvix encoder I have come across that can convert most movie/video format to avi Pocket PC is Pocket DivX Encoder. So far I have been able to play all the video converted by this program at my KS20 and Omnia. The BEST thing is, this program is FREE. I have tried many commercial converters and found this to be the best for PPC/Smartphone.

Get it from here:
http://www.pocketdivxencoder.net/EN_index.htm

You also need a good player for KS20. Try TCPMP version 0.72RC1

Welcome to this forum and as a owner of KS20.

There is one and only one official firmware for Malaysian user. There is no need to update your firmware.
The best way to get rid of all the programs and files installed by the previous owner is to do a Hard Reset. I posted the instruction to do a Hard Reset in this thread. Just check my previous post.

P/S: There are two ways of getting rid of LG program.
1. Flash a WM6.1 cooked ROM. That is what I did.
2. Delete LGMenu.exe located at Windows directory. The LGMenu is actually a good program. I have seen others installing it to their non LG WM phone. If you intend to delete it I would highly recommend that you backup a copy before you proceed.

How to increase your Storage memory

One of the causes of the WM phone to crash is low Storage Memory. You should have at least 10MB of Storage Memory for the phone to run smoothly. When we install more programs some of the Storage Memory is taken by these programs. There are programs that do not want to be installed in the Storage Card thus taking memory
from both Program and Storage. Ringtones has to be located in My Documents, for example.

With SKTools you can move programs and folders to the Storage Card thus freeing your Storage and Program Memories. Launch SKTools. At Category, choose Move Data then Move Folder and choose Move the Folder with content. Select the folder or program you wish to move to the Storage Card and press OK and then select the location where you wish to move it to and then press OK again. SKTools will ask you to reconfirm the file and the new and old location. Once you confirm SKTools will again let you know whether it is possible to move the folder and all the files. If it can be move, press OK and you are done biggrin.gif It is a safe way to relocate your programs or folders as SKTools will also modify the Registry on your behalf.

Unfortunately only the full SKTools can do this SKTools lite can't.

DrWho,

'storage memory', do you mean the 'my device' or the 'storage card' within the 'my device'?

At Settings>System>Memory. That is the memory at your device

its not that scary after all..
less than 10 mins...

Welcome to the Hard Reset group brows.gif It is like doing your pilgrimage. Nothing scary. In fact, if you have a Zitron set, you want to wish that the phone die during the Hard Resetting so that you can get a brand new replacement set. It is always good to Hard Reset on a previously owned unit.

The only inconvenience in doing a Hard Reset is having to reconfigure your setup. But if you backup your system and all your data with Sprite Backup you will have your previous setup back within minutes.

When you are having problems with you device and are considering to Hard Reset; it is too late to backup your system. You only want to backup when everything is working well and want to restore to that state not to a state where the device is giving you problem rclxub.gif

The most you can do now is backup your personal data eg contacts before a Hard Reset

Do you know that you can watch Foreign TV programs via video streaming on your KS20 thru wifi? Check this out, Diamond TV at : http://www.diamondtv.fr/

Been using it for a while. Not bad if you are connected to a fast internet connection.

Good news for those who want to increase the speed and signal strength of their WiFi connection. KS20 comes with WiFi 802.11 B & G. By default WM sets it at B which is a less superior feature. I don't think there is a provision in the original firmware for us to change this WiFi setting.

You need SKTools to do it. Download SKTools from here: http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?m_downloads.html
You can always use the free Trial version for this purpose. Use this version ; SKTools 4.4.5 (WM5/WM6 QVGA)

At SKTools, choose Tune Up then at the bottom tabs goto Network. At WLAN 802.11 G support select Yes at the top window. You are now set to enjoy a faster speed and stronger strength signal on your WiFi connection tongue.gif

Credit goes to arthos7 who shared this at the Omnia thread.

Ed,

Since you are into cars, it is like asking whether the car will consume more gas after you have upgraded your normal engine to a turbo super charged engine. brows.gif

It is now a Porsche! thumbup.gif

Just a word of caution. You should do a full backup including the system files WHILE your phone is working perfectly and NOT when the phone is having problem. By then it is too late. A full backup by Sprite Backup will enable you to restore everything onto your phone, no reconfiguration is required.

The unadulterated original version of NETCF 3.5 is from microsoft is available here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

mikehwy,

SKTools will allow you to configure to show SIM card contacts or not. It is under System Tweaks>Tune Up>Phone Edition>Slow SIM items> Yes or No

The rearrangement of contacts, last name, first name or first name, last name can also be configured from the phone. I cannot recall from which application or program.

Ed,

Attached is a wallpaper which I created for my KS20, a beautiful lightning bolt.
