Ed,

thats fine. i will try to list them and hopeyou can go through them.  there are only "few" programmes inside, but some i dont recognise them.

Do you have a backup program installed to backup your data, or ActiveSync installed?
Can you easily reinstall those programs you wish to keep?

If both your answers are Yes.........HARD RESET

There is no risk in Hard Resetting you will only lose data. If you can resort your data easily, there is no harm Hard Resetting.

Since you have a previously owned unit, it may come with unofficial cooked ROM. If that is the case Hard Resetting won't do you any good. You need to reflash your unit, which is a tedious and risky process.

If I were you I will Hard Reset rclxub.gif

i will go read up your guidance on hard reset somewhere (i think i read them before). then i will consider to do it or not. i have also asked my IT partner but he had no interest at all in mobile gadgets.

Backup all your data. You will lose everything! The beauty of Hard Reset brows.gif is like you have just bought a new phone, starting from scratch! rclxub.gif

Dear DrWho,

ok, listening to your advice.  backing up my Contact and Wav ringtones.  Anything else that i need to backup, such as system files etc?

*
As a precaution copy My Documents to your PC. You would be able to resort it after your Hard Reset

DrWho,

refering to your reply to Ed,

1.  i am using SK Tool regularly (and it is great)
2.  where to locate the "Advanced Configuration" to "tweak" for better performance?  Ed also mentioned this, but my SK Tool does not have it????

ps: i am still rather reserved about hard reset.

thanks again.

Advanced Configuration is another program. If you have reservation to Hard Reset, then don't.

hello guys! new owner of ks20. thanks for all the recommended software, will download it later.

I got question about opera mini. I set it in the java option to connect to "work" to use wifi, but I scared it will use 3g or gprs connection. any way to verify it?
*
Welcome to this forum and the KS20 club

Start your wireless connection first before you launch Opera. When the device detects no wireless connection it will automatically launch 3G. When 3G or GPRS is launched there will be a pop up message telling you that the device is trying to connect to 3G. You will still have time to stop the connection by canceling it. Don't be "scared" 3G connection is not that costly. tongue.gif

Ed,

The original screen protector on my unit got scratched quite fast and I have to replaced it with a new one after only a couple of weeks. The new one is robust. I got it from Digital Mall PJ. The extreme left corner shop along the Main entrance.

HI DrWho,

Ahh.. okay, so it's advisable to use one huh? The original one is terrible as it's very scratched now, ugly and it's making the screen look blurish.
*
The original screen protector has a small tap, at the top left side, for removing it. Come to think about it, it may not be a long term protector, just a protector to protect the screen while in transit.

Look for the SKOOL brand protector. I just went to Digital Mall to look for one for my Omnia, the original Samsung protector is not as clear as SKOOL, .......no stock sad.gif They have stock for KS20

Dar DrWho,

just curious. i am considering to get either the omnia (soon), iPohne (much later), or another Internet enaled phone.  which would you prefer please? maybe out of topic here. hows the Internet funationality and ease-of-use factors?

many thanks.

There are three types of OS for Smartphone. WM, iPhone and Android (Google). The choice will depend on your needs. For me it is either WM or Android (which is very very new). It is not easy to hack the iPhone or its software.

The only reason I bought an Omnia is for the storage capacity. I now have 24GB storage, 16GB in built and 8GB from SDHC. I am keeping my KS20 as standby. smile.gif

harlow guys! in need of help. icon_question.gif
somehow i cannot send or receive mms..
under settings>connections>advance, i put maxis 3g under "program that automatically connect to PRIVATE NETWORK".
is this the correct way?

anyone can write down their 3g/gprs connection settings and mms settings?
greatly appreciated..

There two ways to do it.

1. From your PC goto maxis.com.my to get your configuration. Look for 3G/phone Settings/MMS

2. From your device goto Programs/AutoProfile to setup

I have just flashed the WM6.1 ROM onto my KS20. It is ALMOST as easy as 123 biggrin.gif Since I am use to the WM6.1 on my Omnia, there was not much excitement in doing it, except my KS20 will now fully support SDHC upto 16GB, which I really need. My storage card was storing more than 5GB of data.

Will guide ROM flashing if anyone is interested brows.gif

Dear DrWho,

'flashing' means to re format and hard reset? or does it mean only to change the OS? sounds interesting here.

It is like formatting your Windows 96 in you PC and reinstalling Windows XP. New OS

DrWho,

Wow.. cool. My q's about 6.1

1) is it stable on KS20?
So far so good, could be too early to tell
2) any big difference in UI?
Very similar UI. Few new applications, like TaskManager, Threaded SMS, Total Commander, SetupVOIP, WOW HD and of course SDHC micro card
3) is it any faster?
It is faster but uses more device storage space. You are well compensated with the use of SDHC micro card.

I am interested to do mine too....
Let me know if you are serious and I will send you the whole package with instructions

DrWho, which model of Micro SD you are using now
is the phone writing/reading speed good?

I am using SanDisk 8GB both on my KS20 and Omnia. No problem with speed. SanDisk micro SDHC comes with an USB adapter. Very convenient to use when you need to transfer very very large files

There are several anti virus applications for WM phones. Currently there are no known virus in WM.

Increase the sensitivity of your KS20 screen.

For those who wish to increase the sensitivity of your KS20 screen, do the following Registry Edit:

HKLM\Hardware\Devicemap\touch
Increasing the MaxCalError value increases the sensitivity. I increased mine from 16 to 22. It is now as smooth as silk brows.gif Increasing it to 20 wasn't good enough for me.
