Obsessed? Ok lah i guess, watched their games, buy their jerseys, and some other memoribilias. More towards passion than obsession really, don't really go ALL footy, just one of my many priorities in life. Work/Life balance mah....

I personally don't think u can quantify how much u support a club or be "obssessed" with a club. Especially not in terms of how much club merchandise u have bought. I have just one ori jersey but I'm still gonna support Madrid till the grave.

This greatly depends on if the pedigree of that fan. If he is a glory hunting, fast food eating, no knowledge fan, I could care less. What's the point in arguing with someone doesn't know anything? "We beat you! we beat you! Nyah Nyah!". "Erm... sure, ok, thumbs up for you then. Now go to the corner and suck on it".

well it's quite comfortable to wear and can see it as a support to ur club.
anyway, even if u buy all the jerseys and merchandise doesn't mean u are a loyal fan if u dun really have the passion to know bout ur club and willing to stick with ur club through high and low...
I'm not really that obsess with my clubs , not all their matches i would watch and I dun have all the jerseys.
but at least, I love the club and I'm proud of it no matter wat happened to the club.

having merchandise of the club doesn't make you a supporter/fan, but sure beats those who just 'say' that they are true supporters. those are the kind that makes me sick to the core.

for me, knowledge of and passion for the club are the first and foremost criteria, obsessed or not.

I'm not obsess, I only feel bad driving a blue car, trying to have everything in Red colour. Teaching my kid "Poor Scouser Tommy", making sure he has a kit, watching every match that I can, write here, cry when we lose the big games and when we won number 5.

I am not obsess at all... No I'm not... whistling.gif

Not obsessed at all, just watch all the games, go on bad mood when they lose, have a couple of jerseys and t-shirts, buy their merchandises like the treble medallion collection, and swear at referees when decisions go the other way.

Errr, a movie ticket in Malaysia = RM 10 - RM 12, a match ticket GBP 25 - GBP 50 (RM 175 - RM 350) depending on which club you support. I don't think so...

Plus, I hardly think that going to every match quatifies as obsess or fanatic. Perhaps you should meet the likes of Duke Red, JonC, Zypher, Monstar, lolhalol and a few other to properly know what is fanatical or obsess... flex.gif

The thing I was trying to point out was that being obsessed is not merely about going to matches, there are a lot of fans here who have never been to England, but would not think twice in stabbing another person who bad mouth their team, I'm one of them... icon_idea.gif

I don't quite understand the last part of your post but from what I can gather, you are saying that defending your team proves just how much of a fan you are. I think this is debatable. Too many fans today react for no reason. It's more of personal trait. Malaysian's in general cannot take any form of criticism, even if it's constructive. Tell someone, "i think you need to work on your posture to avoid any back related problems in future" and they are likely to go, "why? what's wrong with the way I walk??". Catch my drift? I find it amusing when people try to defend their clubs when they do not know if there is good reason for them being criticised. How can you build a proper defence without first doing some research?

I don't quite understand the last part of your post but from what I can gather, you are saying that defending your team proves just how much of a fan you are. I think this is debatable. Too many fans today react for no reason. It's more of personal trait. Malaysian's in general cannot take any form of criticism, even if it's constructive. Tell someone, "i think you need to work on your posture to avoid any back related problems in future" and they are likely to go, "why? what's wrong with the way I walk??". Catch my drift? I find it amusing when people try to defend their clubs when they do not know if there is good reason for them being criticised. How can you build a proper defence without first doing some research?

actually i want some peace discussion and not flaming among each other... defensive part of human being is particularly normal but being aggressive for no reason just because of small and tiny piece of comments?? i don't know.. we were all grown up like this anyway

It's really funny to see you talking and uttering profanities to yourself when you're drunk  biggrin.gif There was a time Jonno and I were really amused  laugh.gif

Yeah, that was a good game... Watching JonC screaming his head off, basically swearing at everything. Throw in, "can't you pass properly?", goal kick, "ooooiiiii, pass properly la" etc etc...
Like you said that night Duke, I too like JonC better when he was off his head... biggrin.gif
And Duke, you should be there at Genting, you get to see the really pissed off JonC... icon_question.gif

I think Duke was pointing out that too many fans are jumping to the defence of their team without thinking properly of the criticism, thus unable to mount a proper defence of why they defend the team / coach properly (I am guilty of that many a times). And they take it personally when there's a criticisim against the team. To me, the real fans are the ones who are able to see the dark / bad side of your own team. Trust me, there's ALWAYS things to improve upon. That is what I like most about our manager. Win 8 - 0, what he said? "it was a good game, but I can see that we have rooms to improve still..." instead of gloating about the success...

What kind of fan am I if I want any other team to beat Man Utd?

About glory hunters, its not fair to call recent Chelsea & ManU supporters glory hunters. Most of us being so far from the UK will naturally support teams what we can see more often on TV.. i.e. the succesful & high profile big 4.

A true ManU or Chelsea supporter will be the one who still supports the team when they stop winning. So I would say it is impossible to be a glory hunter & say a Spurs (Shebby) or Everton fan if they started supporting 3 years ago.

I agree with you, it doesn't matter when you start supporting your club. What pisses me off is I've recently met two Man Utd supporters who can't name their starting 11. They go like, "The Man Utd right winger crossed to Ronaldo who headed it towards goal..., etc". Who is the right winger in question? I asked the other, "Do you know where Stretford End is?", and he didn't have an answer.

I'm going to sound like a broken record, but please lah, read up about your club. I find it weird when people ask basic questions here when the information is readily available on the net. Just take some time to do a google search. It's where I get most of my information from.

Duke I admire what you're trying to do but I think you're beating on a dead horse. Some people do not like to read and the idea of reading information off a book or off the net would be a turn off for them. And also alot of people love to watch the game but not many understand it. So u get plenty of cases where they don't even know who is in possession of the ball or why a team is struggling to create chances for instance. Just have to live and let live with them. wink.gif

The funny thing is they bother to ask simple questions here. Fair play but isn't it the same as googling it? I mean you still have to read it. I guess they just want a summed up version.

indeed knowledge is power..but there are those who focus less on the history of their clubs but more towards their current status and development i.e: potential targets, who's coming up in the youth and reserve ranks, the state of the football academy, possible attacking formations and stuff like that.i guess it depends on what kind of knowledge you'd want to emphasise on.But not knowing the names of your first eleven is a definite no-no..you're practically holding up a sign above your head that says:BASH ME NOW! laugh.gif

Well we have discussed this issue under the "real fan" thread before and my opinion hasn't changed since. It is only my opinion but I feel you have to have some knowledge of your club especially if you claim to love and support it. If you don't support them because of who they are, then why are you supporting them? Because they are doing well now? How does one get emotionally attached to something they know nothing about? All I know is if I like a girl, I try to find out more about her. If I like a car, I try to find out more about it. No different when it comes to my football club.

Again, it's only my opinion.
