just been charged MYR600 for annual fees on my credit card and when I called customer service, was told that their bank only will waive 50% which is MYR300 and I need to pay the balance.

The thing is the bank called and offer me Cash on call last month and I took it up, so seems they are squeezing me to pay extra (annual fees) and do not want to give me a full waiver

may I ask for advice here, I do have another card issued by the same bank (one visa and one master), possible for me to cancel the annual fee card and transfer my so called COC balance to the other card?

I have also been told that I cannot early settle the COC as it incurs 5% early settlement penalty.

Please help

does bank have a budget for this kind of waiving? somehow all the while, i felt that this is very unfair to all others who pay annual fees...

its like a neighbor in the taman who dont want to pay securities fees, then all other who is paying suffers

Annual fee is postpaid, so if u did not utilized your card after u got charged annual fee, you can ask for cancellation and annual fee waiver. same goes to SST.
If u already used the card then u are at the bank mercy.

Anyhow isnt it usually banks will waiver annual fees as long u fulfill the min spending requirements?
if u cant fulfill min spending better u cancel the card and move to other no annual fee card.

And yes u can balance transfer your balance to other card.

On the other hand beware Standard Chartered does not willing to waive late payment fee and interest fee..
So far other banks all happily waive after i made full payment.

If depends on who needs the other the most, if you don't want to pay annual fee, the bank will not waive your AF if you are not their target customer or high spender

Those who pay annual fees are the one that needs the bank more, those who is heavily indebted or who always use their loan facility.

What is there to beware ? Late payment charge and interest is how the bank make money. Waiving those are just their goodwill.

Wrong analogy.

If you been have using the credit card, the bank is already making money every time you charge the card. Those who don't get annual fee waiver are those who seldom use their card (bank can't earn any profit if you don't swipe the card), or those who never bother to ask for waiver.

COC usually cannot transfer. If the sum is affordable just pay up and cancel the CC. If you are not gonna benefit much from that CC, might as well look for CC with no annual fee, or waved with minimum 12 swipe. 12 swipe very easy to achieve.

COC just started, got conned by bank. and not yet even started paying back. If I know would not even have taken up the COC.
I want to pay back immediately now and cancel the card but CS say will incur penalty of 5%, which is very expensive

conclusion - bank cornered me, offered me COC and now want to earn more money from me with Annual fee, which they have always waived previously.

so guys, dont trust banks that offer low interested rate COC, end of the day you are the one they will slaughter.
thinking of canceling the card or downgrading the card to cheapest card, if possible and when the COC ends, good bye to this bank,
really pity those credit card sales people outside, begging people to sign up, and when you sign up thru their website, they give so much of goodies, but here they try to slaughter customers and tend to lose good customers. FYI, I have been with them for more than 10 years and every year annual fee waived without any question, suddenly this year new policy. ranting.gif

The waiver of annual fee is up to each bank discretion, u have to read the card T&C before sign up instead of blaming bank for it

Not true. Once I own OCBC banks 2% cash back with no limit. One year my rebate is > 3500. And I never owe them a single cents, no late payment nor any paneity.

They do not want to give waiver and I have to cancel that card.

Same thing happen to me. They offer me 50 percent discount I just refused. Then they will offer full. You just have to stand your ground. RM600 I assume is a platinum card. Just be firm and the will offer you 100%. My Miles card I called to cancel because not using straight away offer 2 years free.

Kinda regret, because can't find another card with better rebate.

After that want to reapply, and found out that they had reduced the cash back to 0.5% (or something like that, can't remember). Then I just forget about it.

Got one year, I was slow in calling the Cs to waive the annual fee, slow like more than 3 months.
Cs informed me, can waive 50% after checking with superior. The other 50% can use rewards point to deduct.

depend on your usage for the cc. If very less, most probably won't get waive.
