Singapore and Malaysian Armed Forces conclude bilateral Eksesais Semangat Bersatu (XSB) joint military exercises
![]() Malaysian Army Western region Field Commander Left Jeneral Datuk Muhammad Hafizzuddeain Jantan inspecting Singaporean soldiers during the opening ceremony of XSB 22 Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Chief of Army (COA) Brigadier-General (BG) David Neo and Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) COA General (GEN) Tan Sri Zamrose Mohd Zain co-officiated at the closing ceremony of Exercise Semangat Bersatu (XSB) in Ulu Tiram Camp, Johor, Malaysia today. Conducted physically from 18 to 25 March 2022, over 300 personnel from the 1st Battalion, Singapore Guards, and the 6th Battalion, Royal Ranger Regiment participated in the bilateral exercise. The soldiers participated in sports activities, combat training, cross-sharing of weapon systems, and culminated in a combined battalion mission exercise. The exercise provided opportunities for soldier interactions and professional exchanges, and enhanced cooperation between both armies. BG Neo commended the soldiers for the successful conduct of XSB22 and highlighted that the exercise has strengthened cooperation and deepened friendships between soldiers from both countries. He said, "The successful battalion field exercise that GEN Zamrose and I just witnessed clearly demonstrated the high level of professionalism and cooperation between the commanders and soldiers of both armies … These touchpoints are invaluable in building personal bonds and friendship between our soldiers." To ensure the safe conduct of the exercise, participants from both armies were fully vaccinated and strictly abided by COVID-19 Safe Management Measures such as rostered routine testing and cohorting by functional groups. This year's exercise marked the 26th edition in the series. First held in 1989, XSB provides a valuable platform for both armies to strengthen professional interactions, and underscores the warm and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and Malaysia. The SAF and the MAF interact regularly across a range of activities, including bilateral exchanges, cross-attendance of courses and multilateral activities under the ambit of the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM)/ADMM-Plus and the Five Power Defence Arrangements. sos |

TUDM logs most A400M flying hours worldwide, certified by Airbus as major global milestone
![]() General Dato’ Sri Mohd Asghar Khan bin Goriman Khan receives an award from Airbus representatives Airbus held a ceremony at the Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference (DSA), to celebrate the achievement of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) for being the first A400M operator to log more than 10,000 flight hours worldwide in 2021. Johan Pelissier, Head of Asia-Pacific for Airbus Defence and Space, presented the award to General Dato’ Sri Mohd Asghar Khan bin Goriman Khan RMAF, Chief of Air Force to commemorate the milestone. The event was also attended by Raymond Lim, Airbus Chief Representative Malaysia; Jose Corcia, Head of Airbus Defence and Space (Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei) and Addi Faiz Adnan, Head of Airbus Defence and Space for Malaysia. Having achieved more flight hours and flight cycles than any other A400M operators, the RMAF is recognised as the A400M global fleet leader, serving as a valuable reference for all existing A400M customers and Airbus. In operation with the RMAF since 2015, the A400M has already changed the customer’s airlift operation, playing a key role in all mission types. These include cargo and personnel transport, humanitarian and disaster relief missions, transport of heavy equipment, in support of national strategy in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic, medical transport, as well as air-to-air refuelling operations. Recently, RMAF upgraded one of the A400Ms with tactical capabilities, enabling the aircraft to perform missions such as aerial delivery, full paratrooper deployment or low-level flight. The RMAF became the programme’s first export customer and is the first A400M operator in the Asia-Pacific region. sos |
