Sinki Bilahari offer a good insight on how china works.

One of his point is that diplomatic protest are useless as the foreign affairs is out of the inner workings of the state and it had turn into an appologist explaining & hoping people to understand china position but them themselves don't care much about it, they are blurring the lines between ethnicity & citizenship & are using international stage to solve china domestic problem
