As far as I know DBS, OCBC, UOB accept. But they charge you an arm and a leg for it. Around 1-2%. Last time DBS accept for free. That was years ago. You need to have a multicurrency account or a foreign currency account before they can take your cash.

You are better off brining your cash to place like arcade to change for SGD then use banks to deposit. Unless somehow you can call your RM and ask them waive the fees for you.

They don't anymore, at least not DBS, OCBC & UOB for me when I last asked. I could check again, not that I have a lot of free GBP laying about, but I do have quite a stash of USD that I don't quite know what to do with ...

Thanks bro.

Hi

Does any one know if there is any bank in Malaysia or Singapore that allows the opening of foreign currency fixed deposit by putting in the foreign currency via cash?

I have some GBP and would like to put it into an FD cause converting back is not worth it considering I got it around 2015 when the rate was at its all time high, I think 1 GBP = 6.7 MYR, if not mistaken.

Cause I search around and mostly it seems that you have to put it in home currency (SGD or MYR) then the bank will convert to the foreign currency you want.
But is there any bank that allows you to bank in the actual currency?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you

Your GBP could be the old design. It has to go back to the Bank of England and redeemed to the new design.

U have to look at conversion rate. Ie USDMYR for example.

Alliance usdmyr rate is worse than RHB. So even if interest rate is slightly higher than RHB, in totality you're worse off with alliance

don't believe the rate mentioned there. I've compare hlb and alliance. also shock when see the rate that hlb is lower.
however after conversion, realise that rate is not 4.7730 but add-on hidden fees. alliance is transparent. if 4.8415 , then it is same after convert.
beware of hidden rate and those bank did not tell upfront but showed lower rate

guys... when you "invest" in currency... eventually need to also sell... therefore must look at round-trip, buy/sell spread for best comparison...

on usd, rhb spread is 0.64%... alliance is 3.54% !!!

des why long ago i kept "promoting" rhb when not many ppl here knows about it... wink.gif

anyways back to alliance... they give you 5.65%pa... if put for 1 year you actually only get 2.11% net...

but because alliance fd is higher than rhb... if you put long enough, returns from alliance will eventually exceeds rhb... my guesstimate maybe in 15-20 yrs smile.gif

anyways... imho that is far too long, and too uncertain...
