hissing is usually an electronics problem, humming is usually a shielding/grounding problem. So if you have both, then buy a new bass laugh.gif

Just kidding. Since it's double single coil, there are some websites on DIY shielding using aluminium and copper foils. Doesn't require any drilling or destroying of your body. Basically foil and double sided tape/glue. I read one but it's for a strat. http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/shielding/shield3.php

But a little modifications and it should work for any other guitar/bass.

Mainly I want to shield it with an aluminium foil but my bass doesnt have pickup guard like the strat..
or is it the same as I can open it from the back.. I guest I'm gonna try it..

For the soldering things.. its kinda scary to do la... sweat.gif

Otherwise, I'll met Christ and get a little discount eh.. hehe

I'm not very informed on technical stuff, but i think if the problem is with your PUs, then no matter how you shield it, it will still hum. Only abit softer. So before you spend money trying to fix this problem, ask yourself if it's absolutely necessary to have a hum free instrument. I read an article where Marcus Miller was ask about his tone. He uses a jazz bass and whenever he turns the volumes of the PUs to different levels, the humbucking effect disappears. And so he always got complaints from his soundman. But he said when the music starts the hum is not noticable anyway, so it doesn't matter. So what he does is balance them when the soundman complains, and turn it back down when the music starts and the soundman won't notice anything anyway. tongue.gif

well, bass effects are generally ignored, so i've been resorting to using guitar effects for my bass most of the time.
i was so desperate to get a good bass distortion for my lead parts that i almost bought a digitech death metal for it.

Ahaks, your words truly make me think for this couple of days.. hehe
actually the thing doesnt seems to have problem while i'm using my 70watt harke.. but when using it with laney stack at the studio and its also connected to the PA, the humming from the PA kinda annoying. but still, i can control it with my volume knob while not playing.. while play, it doesnt too noticeable lorr. biggrin.gif
yah, single PU does humming! so do buying humbucker like MM if you are consider humming thing rite.. huhu

but i still keen to try those NS-2 la.. anyone have tried it with any bass might shared.. hmm.gif
bcoz some noise gate heard seems to kill the tone..

Thanks for the advice bro.. i've learn something.. thumbup.gif

check this connection again. Ground loops usually cause humming problems. However i think it's not affected by the volume knobs. It's just a constant hum. But just double check it. You never know maybe that's the cause after all. No harm checking.

well depends i use a lot of distortion. but lately i just use the Zoom B2.1u and a Boss limiter to tweak the sound. so far so good in live. and too many effects to leceh to set-up on stage i dun have like a roadie or anything ;p

Added on April 25, 2008, 11:53 ambtw you can check out my distortion laden bass tracks at my band myspace website. http://www.myspace.com/cardiacnecropsy

it kinda depends on what im looking for at that particular moment... sometimes i just want a plain volume boodt, sometimes i want a vintage overdrive, sometimes i want pure death growl. Basically, i'm hoping some efects maker gets kind enough to design bass versions of their distortion pedals, and actually give them gain controls and so on so forth. laugh.gif

The most disappointing one so far for me is the Boss ODB-3. The "distortion" knob is actually just a mixer of the clean sound and a crunchy, horrible-fuzz-from-hell tone that you can't make sense out of. I'd really like to see more advances in the bass effects market (that i think has been really ignored), but i think it'll only happen if some virtuoso bassist gets famous to the same level as the guitar greats. Maybe then they'll pay more attention to us laugh.gif
