Apple has already confirmed to increase prices, worldwide. Samsung has already increased prices. Efficient designs also need to consider the cost that go into research and development. Just because it’s smaller doesn’t mean that it’s less cost, if that’s the case nanotechnology would have been really cheap.
*
The goal for the PS5 redesign which we also see a reduction in heatsink size is mainly for cost reduction.

It will be an epic fail if that redesign caused an increase in the cost of manufacturing a PS5 and they are passing it down to the consumer.

Lol the price hike is due to other manufacturers increasing prices too. Ever thought about that instead of just spouting nonsense?

TSMC - https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Tech/Semic...lation-concerns

Micron - https://www.astutegroup.com/resources/suppl...d-flash-prices/

Texas Instruments - https://www.digitimes.com/news/a20220720PD2...ments-tsmc.html
Easy for consumers to say Sony is greedy without knowing the actual cost of manufacturing.  rolleyes.gif
*
Sony counted on cost reduction as they optimize their manufacturing process the more PS5 they sell.
When that cost reduction they expected didn’t occur, they immediately transfer those cost to consumers because they know most consumer will continue purchasing it.

Another factor is likely their drop in gaming revenue.
Perhaps if they took extra steps to prevent scalpers hoarding PS5, those numbers would be better.

More should be done before increasing their prices.
Yet they took the easy way out knowing most consumers are suckers for it.

Damn sure Microsoft and Nintendo is facing similar cost pressures from their supplier, yet they’re not increasing prices of their current gen consoles.

more like, not yet increased price.. pretty sure they will do so in the coming months (despite whatever their PR says)
*
Even Valve which is a much smaller company than Sony and a product that’s way more rare than the PS5 is choosing not to increase the price of their steamdecks.

https://sea.ign.com/steam-deck/182521/news/...er-end-versions

I’m not saying it’s impossible for Microsoft , Nintendo and valve to raise their prices if the situation worsens significantly. But at the very least, they don’t fold as easily under pressure as Sony.

Sony : nothing personal kid, it’s just business.

There’s just too many things going on in the electronics supply chain that consumers do not know about.

Heck, other companies seem to not yet ‘fold under pressure’, but this simply also mean that they might have enough stocks built with older price points that can help them withstand longer.

Just remember - different companies have different pricing contracts for their raw materials, which might also be the reason of the different pricing strategy as well.
*
Sure. It’s not uncommon for companies to pass along the cost when they are facing higher prices from suppliers due to running out of safety / previous stock and expired pricing contracts

But it’s also common for their customers to switch to a competitor who has a more robust supply chain and can provide a more stable/lower pricing.

Sony strategy has always been about making majority of their profits from games sales so this really betrays a lot of consumer expectation. Perhaps they shouldn’t had overpaid the bungie acquisition by paying 3.6 billion for it.

anyone can recommend places to fix the DS5 left analog stick problem?

already tried the solution as suggested in YouTube, but doesnt work for me  cry.gif
*
I was looking around as well but no luck.

2 of my dual sense left analog stick has drifted.
Tried everything short of actually replacing the analog sticks but nothing works long term.
Actually changing the joystick is also a lot of work, way harder than changing a joycon joystick.

May I know which part you changed ?
Just the potentiometer or the entire analog ?
And any links for the parts ?

I have gone through 3 dualsense, 1 got warranty but the replacement starts drifting about 5 months later.
Now all of them are out of warranty and I plan to fix them myself.

From my understanding the drift is due to potentiometer.
We can either try
1) clean the potentiometer
2) replace the copper ring thingy inside the potentiometer
3) replace the entire potentiometer
4) replace the entire analog

Method 1 and 2 don't require soldering.
And the potentiometer replacement for dualsense is 2.3k ohm
*
I meant I did almost everything other than replacing the analog stick.

I’ve tried method 1. Doesn’t work for the long term.
Used a lot of contact cleaner and still it did not solve the issue. Made it go away for a while though.

As for method 2,3,4… I won’t be attempting that as it is quite a lot of trouble.
Found a few in shopee
https://shopee.com.my/2-Sets-for-PlayStatio...9c-0afc1c78aea0

But I’ve no idea if it will work.

Just accept that DualSense is a consumable. There's no real fix, you can replace the entire POTs itself, but that POTs will still wear out in the future anyways. Any solution is not a solution, because it's simply a consumable.
*
If Sony made the sticks easy to replace, I’ll just assume the entire potentiometer to be a consumable and replace it like how one would replace a filter for their air purifiers.

But nope, this is hard and tedious.
Ifixit rated this as very difficult.

I’d rather just buy a new one and that’s what I’ve been doing (bought my 4th dual sense a few months ago).

damn.. your expenditure on dualsense alone + topup abit can get 1 digital vers of PS5 already..
*
As much as I would like to just solder a new potentiometer on, I’m also quite confident I’ll screw something up and just render the whole effort useless.

That’s why I’m also on a lookout for anyone who can offer replacement services. I’d pay around 30-40% the cost of a dualsense to have that replaced.

It depends on personal needs. For me, I am getting old now. If I play multiple games at the same time, I will lost of track on the progress, especially those story driven games. So ya. Because of that, my ps5 free storage is always not lesser than 400-500gb. Of course, I can always install the expansion for so called future proof. But I probably won't since it will get wasted eventually. Lol
*
I agree with you.

And even more bonus points with fast internet.
If a 100GB game can be downloaded in 30mins… I certainly don’t mind waiting.

But I still installed an ssd.
For those times I need instant access to all my party games when guests are around.
And the price was acceptable too. (Corsair M600 pro 1TB for just a little over rm500 from Amazon a couple of months ago)

ya i think of getting pulse for now unless there is better recommendation. thanks.
*
If you need wireless 3D audio …. I think the pulse is pretty much your only choice within your budget.

You can also hook up any headphone/earphone to your controller and use. Cheapest but still alright option might be the moondrop Chus earphones.

Open back headphones will likely be much better.
But some headphones with high impedance / low sensitivity may not be loud enough with your controller jack.

After a marathon session with GOW my PS5 controller has drifting issue now, if thats fixable or I have no choice but buying an new controller?
*
How bad is the drift?

The proper way to fix it is typically by replacing the whole joystick.
but to even access the joystick to incredibly tedious and requires soldering work.

I've changed joysticks on the joycon but that's way easier than the dualsense which I gave up halfway.

How’s your M600 performance? I noticed there’s M600 Pro LPX version which is officially supported for PS5. Is the write speed important? That’s the only difference i see between the two versions. Read speed, both meet ps5 requirement.
*
The one I got was actually the
Corsair MP600 PRO LPX 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe x4 Gen4 SSD

So far it’s ok.
I am not familiar with the non LPX version.
It might just be a different heatsink design.

You are talking about the keeping it vertical issue? Thats nonsense. The console was designed to be vertical. My PS5 always vertical for 2 years already no issues.
*
It’s a very small risk I’m willing to take.
My tv console can only accept a vertical ps5.
Placing it horizontally is quite ugly.

Has mine vertical for 2 years and I don’t encounter any issue too.

What if I told you guys that even if your PS5 is horizontal, it is still possible for the liquid metal to leak? Bet non of the click bait news thought about that. You know why? Because non of them knows how liquid metal can actually "pump out" under a prolong certain temperature range and has no relation to how the console is orientated.

There.

*
Liquid Metal is just enclosed with a layer of cell foam and plastic.

Certainly not surprised if said failure can occur in horizontal mode too.

Either way, it occurs way too infrequent to bother about it.

Seen a few of your comprehensive reviews on projectors.
if I was looking for any projectors, I’ll definitely use your reviews as guides Hahhaa.

For an ultra compact setup/ large screen /minimalist room/rental room.
I think projector is a very good alternative.

Did you drill holes through the external case?
I don't think this will help in any meaningful way though.
Even those specialised "coolers" made for Ps5 doesn't reduce temperature in any meaningful way.

Haha... As i saod.. just want to reuse the abandoned cooler
*
Aftermarket fans made for the PS5 either reduce the internal temp by <1C or in some cases actually increase the temperature instead.
These are fans pointed at the exhaust/intake of the PS5.

For your case, I'm quite sure it will have zero effect on the PS5 internal temp.
As the place where you are placing your fans are the intake and those spot are already cool.
If you still want to use your fan, at least use them near the exhaust to push the hot air away.

So project Q has been formally announced.
This is going to fail so hard.

I might pick it up from the bargain bin if they sell it for less than USD100 lol.
