Gold is a unique options available only for MacBook Air.
Our friend have got himself a mini, so silver is the only color option for him.

Wish Mini have Space grey as well. Not sure the color option will be returning in 2021 updates.

Hi guys, wanna check with sifu who are utilizing Time Machine from your M1 MBA.

Referring to screenshot below, did any of you experience this issue when trying to access Time Machine backups dated back before the M1 Macbooks?

P/S:
Restarted my Time Capsule by turning OFF the power and turned it back on after couple of minutes does resolve the issue. Glad to have my Time Machine and Time Capsule back working as it should.
Saved me countless of times before.

Cant see your backup.

But I restore my new M1 Macbook Air from HDD stored TimeMachine backup from older Macbook Air without any issues.
*
Yes, it couldn't access my backups but it still continue to do backups routinely. I got the Time Capsule from Y2013 for this job.
Weird enough, i can access the latest 3 days backups without issue. Any more than 3 days, it will show like this, dark shadowed and not loading up even after waited 10 minutes.
I'm wondering is it my Time Capsule is dying or the M1 have incompatibility issue.

I restore my M1 from Time Machine as well, and it ported over all my data 100% like my previous Mac, as its intended to do.
All data working fine - from documents to applications.

Anyone who encountered same issue, pls feel free to tag me. I'll update here if i find any solution to the problem.
Thanks in advance, all sifu here.

Malaysia market no refund one. Claim warranty only.
How they compensate under warranty is justify by Apple - replace affected parts or provide whole new machine.

Ordered base macbook air space grey on 7th December still not shipped, dang guess I should have ordered gold.
*
ordered on 7th December? Really? That was way too behind schedule..
I ordered mine on 12th Dec, already using for 10+ days.
To top that, mine is Space Grey BTO unit which usually takes even longer time to be deliver.

How is your M1 Macbook Air battery performance ? Mine utilized 60% of fully charged battery within less than 3 hours. Looks abnormal.
*
So far mine from 10AM-7PM working on office works - heavy excels & conference calls, end of the day still got 30% juice.
Superb leh.. normally my old MBA 2013 would have to charge 2-3 times already.

Hi any traders here can help me with running mt4 on the new M1 cpu? I tried to install the one from XM and felt heat coming from the laptop, when I checked, the CPU was utilizing at 98% and nothing was on the screen. Anyone had similar problem? I read somewhere might need to wait for macos 11.2 or install the current 11.2 beta to run it properly. Betul ke?
*
Download from APp Store. My MT4 and MT5 works flawlessly. No over heating issue as well.

How so? I search for MT4 on app store on macos dont have mt4?
*
Since you're using M1, you can access the iOS apps.
Go to App Store, Type in search engine "MetaTrader 4".
You can see 2 categories - Mac Apps and, iPhone & iPad Apps.
Select the iPhone & iPad Apps, and you shall get it.

I put up a screenshot for your reference.

Then what's your portable solution...? iPad...?

I feel like cancelling my Air and get a Mini...  sweat.gif

Can't go wrong with MBA if you are required to travel around to work with it.
Mini only relevant provided you have work in stationary location, or it serve as always-online server that you can access remotely.

omgg thank you boss! I didn't see that iOS option available in the app store

Yes, you won't see it until you searched it. Try search the name first.

If you still don't see it even after you searched it, then i think somewhere is not right.. I can't be sure with this.

hnmph.. anyone working on heavy Excel files about 150~250MB file?

It seems M1 still incapable to cope with heavy Excel. The loading, saving, and changes updates on cells are taking long time with the color globe spinning for minutes.

I have the Excel file with about 1 million lines per sheet, 6-7 sheets with such enormous data in single file. Mildly coded, as it will hang before i even start codings.

WPS Excel and Microsoft Excel 365 will fail to operate at times. half way savings it freezed and need to be restarted, and lose all works in between.

Opening 4-5 of these enormous files seems tolling on the M1, my CPU temperature can at times, reached up to 85 degrees Celcius. CPU usage however, is relatively low like 15% only.

150MB excel is always heavy even for multi-core cpu, unless you have Xeon workstation, excel do run multi-threaded.

How's your battery usafe span per charge for M1 mac ?
*
Hmm.. really bottlenecked.
RAM and CPU really usage not high when running these files.

I haven't really monitor it for recent weeks as my MBA remained charged --> MCO at home only so always plugged in.
I'll monitor tomorrow and keep you updated on my battery drainage.

Try to drain the battery under normal use. I did quite detail study on this, testing my second M1 Macbook air over this weekend too.

What is the content of the excel ? You may want to turn off the auto-calculation option of your excel file. Calculate once you want to only to update cells.
*
Good advice.. i think i should turn the plug off when the charge exceeded 80%, and then turned it back on when its reaching 30%.
I'll do a full run-through based on 100% battery tomorrow.. Keep you updated with my drainage based on my works usages.
I'll try it with auto calculate off and monitor if it will improve the overall experiences, especially the freezing part.

If your excel is running a lot of complicated formulas like entire row lookups, its definitely going to feel heavy. Especially if your cells are pulling content from a source everytime it is opened. Even a windows PC struggles. anything beyond 100mb i think the person is just kidding themselves trying to keep doing work in excel.

No choice bro, the raw data is just so enormous. Right out from the oven.

Hi all.

I saw a few videos on the new M1 chip, and i'm keen to jump on the Macbook bandwagon.

Want to ask any difference in terms of processing power between Macbook Air vs Macbook Pro (13 inch versions) other than the touch bar? If I get the macbook air, will the processing power be the same as the pro version? I cant see much difference when it comes to the specs.
*
The difference is at the peak performance.

MBA have no active fan to cool it down, hence will experience thermal throttling where your performance cannot sustain at peak performance.
For short duration heavy usage MBA is okay, but if you doing heavy works for prolonged period of time, then MBA will not be suitable.

MBP the other hand, will be able to sustain usage at peak performance for longer period of time due to the active cooling from the fan. Its harder for MBP to reach high temperature as the fan will constantly cool it down as the temperature rise from heavier computing usage.

Ah ic. I'm mainly using it for home based stuff like personal finance, trading, photobook creations, and home videos.

WIll MBA suffice, or should I go for MBP? I assume speed is the same unless i have prolonged sustained heavy usage?
*
MBA is more than sufficient for this. Its already overkill.

They advertise test result using 8 click brightness. You may want to write the time vs remaining % battery say every 15-30 mins, then I'll help you plot this and fit into sort of model.
*
This is based on 8 click screen brightness. Normal routine working condition, run fully on battery.

My MBA can't get network access after switch on or logon from sleep and it has connected with my home wifi & even hotspot(and this problem exist since day 1). However, my wifi have no issue with all my other devices. I had tried reinstall the macOS and reset my wifi configuration & router after guided by live chat support several times but the problem still exist(even restart doesn't helps).

Throughout the past few days, I've discovered a way to access the network by running the Diagnostic Report(Option+Wifi icon).
It seems like the diagnostic report somehow does trigger something in my MBA because my internet is mystically back to life whenever I click 'start' on the diagnostic report. So far, this method hasn't disappoint me yet but it definitely quite frustrated as days go by because I've to do it everytime before I start using this MBA. sweat.gif

So hopefully the call support on upcoming monday can help me get rid of this or best is offer me a replacement  tongue.gif .

This is an odd issue i've come across.
Do you recovered your MBA through Time Machine with very old Mac before this?

I would like to suggest that you try reinstall MacOS again.

I did recovered from my old macbook Pro(late 2011) via the Time Machine at first but it stopped halfway by some error message. So i proceed without recovering in the end instead as too much time needed for recovery.

I did reinstalled the MacOS few days ago as per live chat support instructed but the problem still exists.  rclxub.gif

Found some similar cases complaint on reddit.

DLink USB C hub without PD

user posted image

I’ve read thru several reddits on USBC hubs bricked out MBA & MBP M1 when users powers their machine thru the hub.
*
I'm using UGreen hub, even charging through the PD. No problem so far.
The only thing is the hub will become very very hot.. at times it feels like burning your skin when comes in contact. So yea, i read above some one recommend dont charge with hub PD, and kinda agreed.
It do no harm, but its very hot.
