VDB need to prove to ole, he can do the long pass like pogba too .. with bruno+pogba, the opponents feel the threat as both players can provide that long killer passes from the deep.. without pogba, the threat decreases as they can just man-marked bruno ... VDB must learn this, and improvise his own style in training.. if he can do that, he definitely will be an auto starter because mctomato cant do shit

Yes, we have similar classifications for VDB. He is not a midfield conductor.
His main strength is efficiency and keeps the midfield ticking without fuss. That also means he doesn't do the more fancy stuff that catches attention.

I remember that game where he played with Fred in front of Matic, and the midfield just kept ticking. Our defence to attack connectors were all firing.
But that is to be expected as he is a product of Ajax. Which other club plays a similar way? Barca, with their Dutch influence. You drop him into a pass-possession team and he will fit right in. We should not be so quick to judge VDB based on the highlight reel of dribbling and 70 yard passes.

The title race.

Starting the season, we never were really aiming for a title this season. We haven't even sorted out our team. If we were to put the current League table out against our initial expectations at the start, I think we would be saying Ole has been doing very well.

And I do think he has made some progress. Let's do what United fans do and back the manager at least until the end of the season. I will probably only think about a proper title race if Woodward patches up the gaps in the team at RW and maybe an extra defender in Jan.

Right now it's too risky. We are only 1 Bruno Fernandes injury away from disaster. And he is playing every game.

VDB is like Kagawa, always trying to keep it like simple, safe passes. He'll shine in more passing team like Arsenal.

Or when we have better DM, like Matic on his peak days. Play with 2 AM, with DM do all dirty works behind.

Ole love to play with Fred and Mactominay against better teams. The are okay but 1 world class DM definitely can do defensive works as good as them, and freeing Pogba /VDB to partner Fernandes as 2 AM.

He can switch plays, long and short. Ball control, vision I would say on par with pogba. He is just not a flashy player but an efficient one.

No matter how good pogba is, he wants to leave. Pogba is not bigger than the club.

People seem to think VDB is the same type of player as Pogba, or even Fernandes. Which baffles me.

My opinion is that if VDB had signed for Barca instead and started games this season, we would be rating him at 80 - 100M easy. And we would be saying if only we had signed him because he looks head and shoulders above Pogba. Sometimes, grass needs to be on the other side of the fence for us to get a better view.

from the deep, when opponents play low block, no point running like headless chicken .. forwards hv to start running into space , this is where u need to give that long ball forward .. players with vision like bruno can anticipate their runs and spray that ball into that spaces ... if pogba see that space, he can spray that long ball too .. similar to scholes .. but when vdb see that space, he choose to play it short .. when his team mates start to run, he pass short .. everytime .. if u play like this for 90 minutes, u got nothing ..take away bruno and pogba, just let vdb play alone... he will become shit ..he only do quick short pass ..quick link-up and run ..pass and run ..pass and run .. for 90 minutes even with low block, not brave enough to break the line .. this is where he is lacking .. not "hoof it up and hope for the best"

if he didnt improve his game play, then he deserved to be bench ..and hv to wait for bruno/pogba/mctomato/"pogba replacement" to be injured

without godlike CDM, that slow CB will be exposed a lot ..imagine being trailing 1 or 2 goals, no pogba , bruno got man-marked, opponents play low block, all park the bus, forward start to run at spaces upfront, ..vdb will just play side passing like mctomato ..run and pass ..run and pass.. around the circle ..slow

How to stop when Euro is going to held on 2021 summer? those top EPL club has to play Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League. The fixtures is way too cramp just to shut down.
