I wanted to use it but the number of merchants available are far much lesser than those who use the 3 giant e-wallets.

Would use it if more merchants do. But most of them use Maybank/ TnG/ GrabPay

E-wallet can still fund with credit cards.

DuitNow QR works like debit card; meaning you need to have money in your bank account that is associated for DuitNow QR.

Duitnow QR is a national project .. more banks and ewallet providers are in the pipelines to integrate with single QR code .. meaning you can pay the merchants with one QR code with either bank accounts or Ewallet
*
Yes, Singapore has been using it - national QR payment system

Hope the integration could move in a faster pace.

Eventually they would allow credit card to link with DuitNow QR. the idea is to compete with e-wallets, if banks don’t provide this option, would be cannibalized by e-wallet players

And about the merchants, actually you may use other banks Scan to Pay QR function to pay Maybank QR Pay merchants. They haven’t done the rebranding but they are under DuitNow QR now. I’ve tried it a few times smile.gif

Unfortunately that DuitNow QR doesn't support Payment QR.
This mean that we are still limited to use a few ewallet which supported by merchant

Yes your merchant QR account, not your personal CASA.

If you haven't got a merchant account, a lot of banks are having promotions to sign up. But just like credit/debit card, every transaction is not FOC.

You can Pay From Home.
I have collected a few merchant QR codes (another ewallet's - paying tuition fee, club membership etc) I can pay at home during xMCO, then whatsapp the merchant. No need to be present at the merchants to scan the QR now.

Unless you have a rather close relationship with the merchants, otherwise it may not work especially for those with tap/touch and go.

Collecting Merchant QR may pose some sort of risks, if the QRs are tampered somehow like the cases in WeChat Pay in China.

implementation and testing not only by the provider but also to be reviewed by paynet qa team and approved by PayNet management.

not sure there is actual interoperability testing with other providers. which may contribute to the complexity.

Why not?
I have been using very frequently as you can just do it from the respective bank app.

Instant Transfer has been rebranded to DuitNow to Bank Account.
DuitNow has two options: to Proxy (NRIC,Mobile Number or etc) or to Bank Account Number

Why not? People just need to know your phone number to transfer fund, no need to give them your bank account number.

guest you are right, I just used shopeepay to scan the Duitnow QR generated by maybank2u app and it shows invalid QR code
but they should rephrase it instead, it is definitely a duitnow QR code, just that cannot transfer to the account linked to it

guest you are right, I just used shopeepay to scan the Duitnow QR generated by maybank2u app and it shows invalid QR code
but they should rephrase it instead, it is definitely a duitnow QR code, just that cannot transfer to the account linked to it
*
Well ... for currently, DuitNow QR is more to mean to instant transfer fund from Bank A to Bank B.

You can think like this:
Fund in ShopeePay is able to top up from a credit card,
so it wont able to transfer to your Maybank CASA DuitNow but only merchant QR.

Fund in your CASA account,
is able to transfer to any bank and any DuitNow QR merchant.

I think the logic is simple ...
"You cant move money from a credit card thought DuitNow QR to a CASA account"
When you understand this simple rule then you will get it

To pay - you need to activate Duitnow QR feature (some simple steps only).
To receive fund - you need to register your IC number / Mobile number except Duitnow to Bank Account (aka IBFT).

Just do the necessary association to your DuitNow ID (mobile phone or NRIC) under Manage DuitNow.

DuitNow QR: When will Boost, Grab and Touch 'n Go eWallet support Malaysia's unified QR code?

GrabPay

Below is the official statement from a Grab spokesperson:

QUOTE
As a homegrown tech enabler, we introduced GrabPay to provide consumers with a safe, convenient and seamless digital payments experience allowing them to pay for services on the Grab app and in-stores (payments to merchants). We are constantly innovating and exploring strategic collaborations with like-minded partners and the government to drive digital payment usage. This includes our successful collaboration with the government in the e-Tunai and ePENJANA initiatives that have furthered the adoption of digital payments in Malaysia.

However with the pandemic and various movement control, we had to focus our immediate efforts in supporting our merchant-partners to digitalise, while continuing to serve consumers who depended on Grab services since the first MCO last year. We are continuously working toprovide our merchants and users with the convenience and access to our robust ecosystem and services across our platform. Our strategy has always been focused on being hyperlocal and the planned DuitNow QR integration is still on track. We are working towards launching this soon and will announce when the system is fully up and running.

Boost

Boost, the eWallet by Axiata Digital, is still committed to the DuitNow QR initiative but with no live dates provided. When asked about their status, they have issued us the following statement:

QUOTE
Yes, we are definitely still supporting the national QR initiative. We are working very closely with PayNet towards ensuring we deliver the best possible interoperable digital payment experience for all users. We hope to go live soon, so please stay tuned for our launch announcement.

Touch ‘n Go eWallet

According to a spokesperson, Touch ‘n Go eWallet’s integration work has been fully completed. It added that the actual rollout will be done in phases and it will be announced accordingly.

Touch ‘n Go had previously targetted to go live by July 2020 and it will also tap into DuitNow’s extensive ecosystem. Apart from making QR code payments, Touch ‘n Go eWallet users could soon perform instant fund transfers to other eWallets and bank accounts via the DuitNow network.

if banks (which are known to be less IT savvy) can implement it at a much earlier timeline, these so-called fintech companies are just taking their own sweet time to implement this

i believed their margin will be affected, so no rush to roll out
unless paynet is not charging anything, even that it will still be affected
previously whichever merchants they acquired, the pie is theirs, but soon merchants can use one single QR to accept all ewallets

yep, they want to delay it, but mandate from BNM (still loose) require them to be onboarded with DNQR.

this year would likely see the big ewallet players onboard DNQR, after about 1yr delay.

Can I use QR pay to transfer money to my friends/family?
At the moment, QR Pay is only available to be used for transactions at selected merchants. We are currently exploring to expand the QR Pay functionality to cover other payment options in the future.

yea, can scan personal Duitnow QR but if try to pay will be unsuccessful
maybe the 2 merchant duitnow QR are outdated - if there's such a thing

in terms of scanning, shopeepay is better, it will show invalid if scan personal duitnow qr

Hi, I have just done a small amount (RM1) payment to my own DUITNOW QR (registered with MBB but incoming fund will go to my HLB current account).

Here is my findings:
1) TNG EWALLET : successful payment
2) BOOST : able to scan QRCODE but the payment process stuck when done verified with fingerprint (or PIN). I pressed BACK, and found payment was not done (balance not deducted).
3) SHOPEEPAY : able to scan (but I didn't proceed further, sorry)
4) GRABPAY : returned message "invalid code"

Oh yes sir, you are right. Sorry for not mentioning earlier.
The payment was made to a merchant QR (my own shop).

So, TnG-e still can't transfer fund to a DuitNow account, as bro @Haloperidol has tried.

For merchant, I guess it won't stay free forever. Banks will start charging once critical mass is reached.
Maybank is a step ahead from the others because it allows non-Maybank merchants to get a DuitNow QR code from them.

it's not only cimb, none of the ewallets allow payment to duitnow qr tie to personal accounts (non business)

QUOTE(chemistry @ Feb 27 2021, 01:15 AM)
Hi, I have just done a small amount (RM1) payment to my own DUITNOW QR (registered with MBB but incoming fund will go to my HLB current account).

Here is my findings:
1) TNG EWALLET : successful payment
2) BOOST : able to scan QRCODE but the payment process stuck when done verified with fingerprint (or PIN). I pressed BACK, and found payment was not done (balance not deducted).
3) SHOPEEPAY : able to scan (but I didn't proceed further, sorry)
4) GRABPAY : returned message "invalid code"
*
don't do it too often, not sure will get into trouble or not. You can see your own name in the duitnow merchant transaction description, right? But it's a good way of transferring ewallets reloads back to you own business current acc brows.gif

DuitNow QR is a national QR schemes, banks and e-wallet players has onboarded on DuitNow QR.
So, DuitNow QR is not Maybank exclusive

Today, i tried to scan a merchant's Malaysia National DuitNow QR code with my TnG ewallet but it showed that a message that the code is not valid. Located below the QR code, it stated HL Bank.

I thought that DuitNow QR means any of the participating banks and ewallet can scan the QR code, no?

Sarawakpay will work on its network, you scan the merchant QR, it will be directed to Payment to merchant or Fund Transfer automatically.

I believe it will be similar to Duitnow QR in the future (most likely next phase), Duitnow QR will automatically detect it is a payment to merchant or Fund Transfer to Bank/Wallet account.

BTW I just found that a Boost merchant can now display a Duitnow QR (merchant), but I haven't tried if I can use TNG ewallet / Shopeepay to pay the Boost merchant via Duitnow.

Just wanna double cfm

As long as the Duitnow QR code that the merchant display is the pink one then it means I can scan and pay with any ewallet/banks that already support DuitNow QR right?

Does matter who the merchant partner is/ what "cover" or "frame" the QR code is in right?

You can get the Duitnow QR (merchant) service from Maybank (Formerly Maybank QR Pay), CIMB, Public Bank, RHB, Boost. If you choose Maybank, then you will get the money from Maybank, regardless the customers are using Boost, Grabpay, TNG, ShopeePay, so you don't have to deal with so many ewallet operators. If I am not wrong, there are some sign-up campaigns, can win prizes every month. Hehe.

yeah. think about it. reading both Maybank(not really want because my own QRPay on phone not functioning doh.gif ) and Pbbank. Maybe look at other bank too.
Currently using unified payment system with 1-2% charge. So thinking this will be better.
But in statement i cannot find about how we know we received $$ from customer or not? Must use register number or can install apps only see payment lik other unified payment.

Anyone using merchant QRPay... Give me some tips

why specific to "duitnow QR"?

DNQR is just a medium/method of fund usage.

afaik, IRB doesnt actively track everyone for ewallet or banking usage.

the financial regulation lies with BNM to its members (FI or banks) with due diligence in reporting of activities conducted by their business, eg Suspicious Transaction Report (STR), etc.

doing in phases.

PayNet "forces" banks to go first, suppose to go live in 2018, but kept delaying sweat.gif

Phase 1: Licensed banking and financial institutions
Banks,
Investment Banks,
Islamic Banks; or
Prescribed Development Financial Institutions

Phase 2 or later: Non-Financial entities (“Non-Banks”)
An Eligible Issuer of E-Money; or
An Approved Issuer of a Designated Payment Instrument; or
A Registered Merchant Acquirer

Many people who are using online banking app still have not activated their DUITNOW. It's not convenient for me to teach them especially banking issue.
Often times my customers end up using the old method ie. Login -> Instant Transfer -> Fill in recipient account number & amount -> TAC -> Approve .

Can u do that? Using shopeepay and scanned your own merchant qr code? Basically you are using shopeepay to transfer money to your own account rite? Legally can you do that? For eg, top up shopeepay using credit card, then transfer the cash to your bank account using shopeepay via duitnow qr code?

Any tax/profit issue? Credited to business account!
If too frequent or related party transactions, you breach the T&C (your DuitNow QR service provider).
Pay to your supplier/landlord will be fine.

As long the QR shown is a DUITNOW QR, then you can ignore the banner that comes along with it.

1) DNQR + Grab banner = any eWallet support DNQR, yes.
2) DNQR + TnG banner = any eWallet support DNQR, yes.
3) QR + Grab banner = only Grab eWallet.
4) QR + TnG banner = only TnG eWallet.

But one thing I found out i that, if the merchant displays DNQR but it’s their bank account(savings account), you will need to scan using your bank app. eWallets won’t be able to recognize that QR. Dumb me keep scanning the bank account’s DNQR on a eWallet but it kept on saying not recognized.

In fact not many here are displaying QR so 99% they scan me

And remaining are TnG blue frame QR

Boost red frame only a few and Maybank or DN is like rare species

Ah, still. As long it’s PINK (or at least mentioned it’s a DNQR) in colour, there’s no need to worry what and which eWallet’s cardboard is that. Just use any DN eWallet to scan it. The cardboard is just a cardboard. Just for advertising purposes

But I am asking whether red Boost or blue TnG will do, not PINK

I don;t see PINK around my area

NVM will find out if I happen to purchase something from one of them

The original Boost (red label) and TnG (blue label) QR code is still valid. Just use the appropriate ewallet to scan it. Boost scan Boost, TnG scan TnG.

The latest DuitNow QR (pink label) still has weakness. If the DNQR is provided by BANKS , most likely eWallet fail to detect it. If I'm not mistaken, only DNQR by MAE (register as merchant) can accept payment by ewallets successfully.

GrabPay scan MAE DNQR, successful, NO POINTS EARNED.
Boost scan MAE DNQR, successful, can get Boost Coins.
TnG scan MAE DNQR, successful, as usual (no cashback)

it make sense though, as boost does not earn any commission from that QR code, they will not give out reward pt
so going forward, I can foresee pink duitnow QR everywhere (with header or maybe not), you scan using ewallet with the same header, you'll earn reward as normal, else no reward
if no header, it's roulette time rclxm9.gif

The big eWallets (Grab, TnG, Boost) are all in DuitNow QR I believe. The link you have above shows the DuitNow instant transfer providers, and not DuitNow QR providers. To see the list of players for DuitNow QR, go here: https://www.duitnow.my/DuitNow-QR/index.html

Mind elaborating abit more? I scanned at this non-preferred merchant QR code (not DNQR), $$$ was deducted but no reward points received at all! I thought we could still earn reward points by using GrabPay wallet according to tiers? Am I missing something here?

Hmmm... might sound abit dumb here as I'm still trying to figure out what's going on.. Have reached out to customer support but they have not gotten back to me...

The QR code I scanned is a grabpay QR but I find it weird that I didn't receive any reward points like I usually do! Then came across in Grab somewhere it said reward points are given to Preferred Merchant with comes with a red (or pink) QR code. So i just wonder is this reason I do not get to earn any reward points?

Weird means I should enjoy reward points since I paid by scanning Grab QR code right? Or I am not entitled because merchant is not a preferred merchant that displays the new red/pink DuitNow QR code?

It's just a small merchant, not those franchise type. Does it matter?

Chat with CS who said will get back to me but not update yet. Oh one more thing is transaction took abit long to complete, and it showed pending at first. Money was deducted but no points rewarded..

you may refer to this URL: What are the transactions that do not earn GrabRewards Points
If your transaction does not fall within these categories, you shall dispute against the CS and fight for your right.

Launch of the Cross-Border QR Payment Linkage between Malaysia and Thailand

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) today launched a cross-border QR payment linkage between Malaysia and Thailand. Under this linkage, consumers and merchants in both countries will be able to make and receive instant cross-border QR code payments. The project that commenced in June 2020 will be completed in three phases. Today marks the completion of the first phase in linking the real-time retail payment systems of RPP/ DuitNow in Malaysia and PromptPay in Thailand1 .

Under the first phase, users in Thailand are now able to use their mobile payment applications to scan DuitNow QR codes2 to make payment to merchants in Malaysia including for online cross-border e-commerce transactions. This service is expected to benefit more users in both countries when international travel resumes, as they can make payment using their mobile payment applications instead of using cash.

Under phase two, users in Malaysia will be able to use their mobile payment applications to scan Thai QR codes3 to make payment to merchants in Thailand. This phase is expected to go live in the fourth quarter of 2021. The last phase of the linkage will be expanded to include cross-border remittance. Users in both countries will be able to make real-time fund transfers conveniently by referencing the mobile phone number of the recipient. This functionality is expected to go live in the fourth quarter of 2022.

This collaboration represents a key milestone in the ASEAN Payment Connectivity initiative that promotes financial integration in the region through increased efficiency, reduced costs and improved user experience for cross-border payments. The retail payment linkage will serve as an important enabler to support post-pandemic economic recovery by further strengthening economic ties between participating countries.

Datuk Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, Deputy Governor of BNM, said on this occasion, “The retail payment linkage will enhance the efficiency and convenience of cross-border payments by providing users with faster, cheaper, and more inclusive payment arrangements. This will give more options for consumers and merchants in the cross-border payment space and serve as a key enabler to strengthen regional connectivity and financial integration.”

In addition, Mr. Ronadol Numnonda, Deputy Governor of the BOT said, “The BOT recognises the significance of cross-border payment system linkages and has continuously pursued such initiatives. This connectivity builds on our domestic payment infrastructure which will facilitate cross-border retail payment activities between the two countries during and after the pandemic. More importantly, it will also facilitate the cross-border trade and e-commerce, thus contributing to economic growth and digitalisation.”

CIMB Thai Bank and Public Bank Berhad are the first two banks that have participated in the linkage and started offering the instant cross-border QR code payment service to their customers. More payment service providers are expected to participate in offering such service, thus broadening the network of users and merchants.

This project is made possible with the collaboration from various stakeholders from both countries. These include the Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) and the National ITMX (NITMX) as payment system operators, as well as banks in the CIMB Group as the settlement banks that are responsible for the settlement of cross-border transactions performed via the QR payment linkage between Malaysia and Thailand.

It will be possible by end of next year, it is "Fund Transfer" instead of Payment. You can do cross-border payment/transfer as well, from/to PromptPay Thailand and PayNow Singapore.
But you cannot use credit card to top up ewallets then transfer the emoney to bank accounts.

no you cannot, 1 phone number only tied to 1bank/ewallet acc.
if you plan to link to other acc, use ic no since your phone no already link to maybank.

No need register to get it.
You can generate your own PERSONAL Duitnow QR code at your banking app, eg MAE App. Your clients can use their CASA to scan the QR and FUND TRANSFER (zero cost to you).

Please note it is not a merchant Duitnow QR, which the merchant need to pay bank charge (~1%) to the bank. (ShopeePay, TNG ewallet, Grabpay users can pay to the merchant Duitnow QR)

Then you need to open a merchant Duitnow account (any bank, TNG wallet, ShopeePay or Boost), just like the stalls at Kopitiam or Pasar Malam, or similar to having a credit card machine at your business outlet.

You need to create a MAE account for merchant use.
After creating the account, you may link your existing account in order to receive payment.
For my case, I link my HLB Current account, so whenever customer scan my MAE QR code, the payment instantly credited to HLB account.

Hope this helps.

hi guys.. anyone encountered unsuccessful transactions when opt for credit card (instead of wallet balance or CASA) as the payment source?

i experienced failed transactions using credit card lately (i used bank app directly and chose credit card as the payment source) and the error msg shown were the merchant does not accept this type of account (credit card)

anyone could suggest a walkaround for this or it's a must to use wallet balance and CASA?

probably an ewallet that able to transact through linked credit card even when the wallet balance is less than the amount i want to pay?

i think it's not really about which bank's credit card but more about the merchant opt out to receive payment through credit card as there's additional fee compared to if receive cash?

Previously can. I did see that option before.

Now no more.
Just now I opened MAE app to check the scan&pay function, it only let me choose either Savings/Current account or MAE wallet account , although I have 3 credit cards with Maybank.

Yes, HLB business account has Duitnow QR for you to make payment or receive payment.
Open your HLB Connect app, you should see the menu at home page.

No.
But if activate UnionPay QR feature, you can use UnionPay QR nationwide, eg Econsave.

Can link TNG NFC Card to TNG wallet if you take public transport and pay toll and pay parking.

You can now use TNG wallet at a lot of places in Kuching. You can buy TNG PIN at Lazada (5% weekend CB for Maybank M2 Amex Gold/Platinum) to top up TNG wallet, then use TNG wallet to spend, including Duitnow QR and TNG Wallet Visa Card (not TNG card). Eg you spend at Everrise/H&L/Farley on Monday, you get 5% savings (M2Amex weekend CB), even though it is not Sat/Sun, and Amex is not accepted at Everrise/H&L/Farley.

Thank you for also reminding about the NFC card. Definitely need to buy for paying public transport.
Didn't know TNG widely use in Kuching now, that's a good sign.

You may buy TNG NFC Card at Lazada, RM10 + RM9.50 delivery to Kuching. TNG NFC Card Will expire in 7 years but no need to use once in 1 year like the old TNG card.

You can use TNG wallet to scan & pay at Duitnow QR merchant including the QR plate provided by Boost, Grabpay, MAE.

National consolidated ewallet is DuitNow QR code. Every merchant has their own QRCode, hence BNM consolidated all the banks/merchants into a single payment platform under PayNet offering DuitNow.

Nope, each ewallet can only use its own merchant QR code, and the only way to cross use it is using DuitNow QR.

So if a merchant has Duitnow QR displayed, then you can use any ewallet to make payment.

Lazada Wallet has not joined the Duitnow ecosystem.

Can scan Pink Duitnow QR (Pay to Merchant only):
Bigpay, TNG, ShopeePay, Setel, Boost, Grabpay, banks (including Maybank MAE) and Merchantrade.

just wondering, are most pink duitnow qr code still not able to accept payment by bank app that opt for credit card as the payment method?

eg. using maybank MAE app, power up the payment scanner, choose credit card (instead of MAE wallet or saving account) as the payment channel

noticed a lot of sellers/merchants displayed their pink qr code.. but my payment to them were mostly failed if i use bank app (+ credit card as payment method) to scan..

and of course, mostly success when i use any standalone ewallet (tng, boost, etc) instead

Does anyone know where to get a list of international e-wallets supporting payments to duitnow QR?
I have approached the TNG CS, stupid to the max. They can't give me the precise answer.
I can only search from the news.
Duitnow website also not so update.

Example:
South Korea: Kakaopay, Tosspay
Macau: Mpay
HongKong: Alipay HK

Has anyone effected Duitnow QR payment using bank app linked to credit card account instead of the usual CASA method?

Say I only have a credit card with A Bank, and I use A Bank's app to scan the merchant's Duitnow QR to effect payment using the credit card as the (sole) source of funds.

I read HSBC and CIMB have these in their FAQs. But I tried scanning a merchant's Duitnow QR to pay but was told I didn't have the necessary account to pay using Duitnow QR function.
