it make sense though, as boost does not earn any commission from that QR code, they will not give out reward pt
so going forward, I can foresee pink duitnow QR everywhere (with header or maybe not), you scan using ewallet with the same header, you'll earn reward as normal, else no reward
if no header, it's roulette time rclxm9.gif

The original Boost (red label) and TnG (blue label) QR code is still valid. Just use the appropriate ewallet to scan it. Boost scan Boost, TnG scan TnG.

The latest DuitNow QR (pink label) still has weakness. If the DNQR is provided by BANKS , most likely eWallet fail to detect it. If I'm not mistaken, only DNQR by MAE (register as merchant) can accept payment by ewallets successfully.

GrabPay scan MAE DNQR,  successful, NO POINTS EARNED.
Boost scan MAE DNQR, successful, can get Boost Coins.
TnG scan MAE DNQR, successful, as usual (no cashback)
*
How about offsetting Grab Rewards Points? If use GrabPay to scan non-GrabPay DuitNow QR, can offset with points?

The big eWallets (Grab, TnG, Boost) are all in DuitNow QR I believe. The link you have above shows the DuitNow instant transfer providers, and not DuitNow QR providers. To see the list of players for DuitNow QR, go here: https://www.duitnow.my/DuitNow-QR/index.html

GrabPay can now scan DuitNow QR,  but no points will be awarded.

Mind elaborating abit more? I scanned at this non-preferred merchant QR code (not DNQR), $$$ was deducted but no reward points received at all! I thought we could still earn reward points by using GrabPay wallet according to tiers? Am I missing something here?

As long the QR shown is a DUITNOW QR, then you can ignore the banner that comes along with it.

1) DNQR + Grab banner = any eWallet support DNQR, yes.
2) DNQR + TnG banner = any eWallet support DNQR, yes.
3) QR + Grab banner = only Grab eWallet.
4) QR + TnG banner = only TnG eWallet.

But one thing I found out i that, if the merchant displays DNQR but it’s their bank account(savings account), you will need to scan using your bank app. eWallets won’t be able to recognize that QR. Dumb me keep scanning the bank account’s DNQR on a eWallet but it kept on saying not recognized.

Hmmm... might sound abit dumb here as I'm still trying to figure out what's going on.. Have reached out to customer support but they have not gotten back to me...

The QR code I scanned is a grabpay QR but I find it weird that I didn't receive any reward points like I usually do! Then came across in Grab somewhere it said reward points are given to Preferred Merchant with comes with a red (or pink) QR code. So i just wonder is this reason I do not get to earn any reward points?

Weird means I should enjoy reward points since I paid by scanning Grab QR code right? Or I am not entitled because merchant is not a preferred merchant that displays the new red/pink DuitNow QR code?

It's just a small merchant, not those franchise type. Does it matter?

Chat with CS who said will get back to me but not update yet. Oh one more thing is transaction took abit long to complete, and it showed pending at first. Money was deducted but no points rewarded..

you may refer to this URL: What are the transactions that do not earn GrabRewards Points
If your transaction does not fall within these categories, you shall dispute against the CS and fight for your right.
All the best .

Launch of the Cross-Border QR Payment Linkage between Malaysia and Thailand

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) today launched a cross-border QR payment linkage between Malaysia and Thailand. Under this linkage, consumers and merchants in both countries will be able to make and receive instant cross-border QR code payments. The project that commenced in June 2020 will be completed in three phases. Today marks the completion of the first phase in linking the real-time retail payment systems of RPP/ DuitNow in Malaysia and PromptPay in Thailand1 .

Under the first phase, users in Thailand are now able to use their mobile payment applications to scan DuitNow QR codes2 to make payment to merchants in Malaysia including for online cross-border e-commerce transactions. This service is expected to benefit more users in both countries when international travel resumes, as they can make payment using their mobile payment applications instead of using cash.

Under phase two, users in Malaysia will be able to use their mobile payment applications to scan Thai QR codes3 to make payment to merchants in Thailand. This phase is expected to go live in the fourth quarter of 2021. The last phase of the linkage will be expanded to include cross-border remittance. Users in both countries will be able to make real-time fund transfers conveniently by referencing the mobile phone number of the recipient. This functionality is expected to go live in the fourth quarter of 2022.

This collaboration represents a key milestone in the ASEAN Payment Connectivity initiative that promotes financial integration in the region through increased efficiency, reduced costs and improved user experience for cross-border payments. The retail payment linkage will serve as an important enabler to support post-pandemic economic recovery by further strengthening economic ties between participating countries.

Datuk Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, Deputy Governor of BNM, said on this occasion, β€œThe retail payment linkage will enhance the efficiency and convenience of cross-border payments by providing users with faster, cheaper, and more inclusive payment arrangements. This will give more options for consumers and merchants in the cross-border payment space and serve as a key enabler to strengthen regional connectivity and financial integration.”

In addition, Mr. Ronadol Numnonda, Deputy Governor of the BOT said, β€œThe BOT recognises the significance of cross-border payment system linkages and has continuously pursued such initiatives. This connectivity builds on our domestic payment infrastructure which will facilitate cross-border retail payment activities between the two countries during and after the pandemic. More importantly, it will also facilitate the cross-border trade and e-commerce, thus contributing to economic growth and digitalisation.”

CIMB Thai Bank and Public Bank Berhad are the first two banks that have participated in the linkage and started offering the instant cross-border QR code payment service to their customers. More payment service providers are expected to participate in offering such service, thus broadening the network of users and merchants.

This project is made possible with the collaboration from various stakeholders from both countries. These include the Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) and the National ITMX (NITMX) as payment system operators, as well as banks in the CIMB Group as the settlement banks that are responsible for the settlement of cross-border transactions performed via the QR payment linkage between Malaysia and Thailand.

I wanted to use it but the number of merchants available are far much lesser than those who use the 3 giant e-wallets.

Hi, good day to all,

My brother who is a roadside hawker, he have Maybank saving account, he create a DuitNow QR code from Maybank. I can use GrabPay, TnG, Shopee Pay to scan it, and all works fine.

I have CIMB account, I create my DuitNow QR from CIMB app, but my QR code was not recognized by any e-wallet.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you in advanced. notworthy.gif
