I hurt my neck when I was practicing headstand and there was a cracking sound when I fell down. The pain is still bearable, just that I can't really turn my head to the left and right now. Is x-ray necessary or should I just go for chiropractic treatment?

Also wondering if most yogis are suffering from body ache after practicing yoga? I do it like 3~4 times a week and the next day I always feel like being badly beaten up. I have bruises on my knees and arms too after doing the bakasana pose sweat.gif Are these normal?

How long have you guys been practicing yoga before you can do the handstand, headstand & etc?

Hi TS,

Reading your post, I assume you are doing yoga alone? Issit?
It's the best when you can join Yoga studio so that someone can supervise your posture and provide assistance when your posture is a bit swayed/off.

Warm up is very important for a yogi before performing any yoga pose. Make sure your body has warmed up so that you can perform any pose. If you're stuck at certain pose, always start with the most foundation pose and slowly climb to that

There's a lot of tutorial on IG.
one of my fav is @yoga.tuts, it's important to improve with step by step.

Hurm, regarding knees and arms bruises, i normally get that when i do plank. perhaps, time to change your yoga mat or to put more comfortable material under your knees and arm.

I do attend yoga classes. I practice a lot at home too, guess I was too impatient and tried to nail on my headstand asap.
Thanks, I am following that account now smile.gif

I know it gets you excited when you unlocked certain poses, and when you're feeling stronger, and bendier than ever.
It's addictive. biggrin.gif

Try to spend more time to activate your minor muscles and do longer stretching for warm up.
IG is your best friendsss haha.

Hi chockie,

If your balance in inversions is not too good yet, the wall is your best friend if you don’t have a spotter available. Safety comes first smile.gif

It is totally normal to feel “beaten up” the day after a class, especially if the class focused on stretching a lot of your tighter muscles biggrin.gif

Bruises on the knees and arms the day after practicing your bakasana is probably due to the fact that you are not used to putting so much pressure on the upper arms and knees. Over time, it will get better.

I did my first headstand before I even “officially” started practicing yoga haha. The handstand was much trickier. It took me about a 6 months worth of solid practice every day to be able to balance off the wall.

I hope you don’t get discouraged by this injury. Practice safely in the future and your body will thank you for it.

Rest enough and recover before you practice your headstand again. There are so many other cool poses you can try too in the meantime happy.gif

Hit me up if you want to talk more about yoga haha. Maybe we can teach each other a thing or two thumbup.gif Cheers.

Yes highly recommended thumbup.gif especially if you do not perform any form of stretching yourself haha. Better flexibility and mobility throughout your whole body can also help in other exercises.

Just seeing this, the exact same thing happened to me when I started Ashtanga yoga a few years ago, all's good now though. Keep at it and hopefully you'll start feeling better soon!

Good stretch, warm up /down, and additional yoga class (YIN is better than Yang for this purpose) are always good supplements to weight training.

I practice yoga. But I don't do yoga for yoga. I have purpose, which is flexibility. I feel good stretch after yoga. If I attend Yang yoga class, it is a different story. It seems you do Yang yoga. Usually I do YIN style yoga. Other than that for health flow workout is also awesome.
