Hi all IT sifus,

Currently I am using a primary Dual Band router (model: AMINIA MA131) provided under Maxis ONEPrime package.

I have an extra TP-Link Archer C5v router ( https://service-provider.tp-link.com/wifi-router/archer-c5v/ ) which I plan to use as an "Wifi Extender / Repeater" to complement my primary router which may need tweaking of some settings; including disabling DHCP & turning router into a wireless bridge etc.

I managed to access TP-Link router setting under administrator mode (via 192.168.1.254) but unable to change it's Default Gateway setting.

1. Anyone have other solutions or better recommendations?
2. If unable to change Default Gateway, can TP-Link Archer C5v router use custom firmware from https://www.dd-wrt.com?

Thanks in advance!

this router chipset is not supported by WRT, i have checked before. and can use as AP

wan setting disable VLAN , and change to bridge mode
dhcp server disable

it you login as administrator , you can change default gateway at DHCP server -> Lan settings -> IP address is the default gateway

Firstly, thanks for your recommendations but there is no option to disable VLAN or change to Bridge mode.
It looks like the router settings are hard-coded for Maxis only (refer photo below)

For the Gateway, after I disable DHCP server + change IP address to my custom Gateway IP, unable to access router after reboot.
Then I need to Reset router back to factory default settings.

If you have the same router model, can please share some screenshots of your settings?

Gateway after you change and disable dhcp server, you need to manual input ip address to access back the router. like your router gateway ip 10.1.1.11, and your pc ip must 10.1.1.12

Thanks for the detailed explanation and screenshot on your setting.
I successfully changed default Gateway and disabled DHCP server -a BIG thank you!

As for the WAN settings, I do not have an option for Bridge mode (refer screenshot below) - how do you enable it?
I will PM you the HTML script for reference.

The other easier way is for me to use the same firmware as your TP-Link router, if you have the *.bin file copy.
Reason is I saw your WAN settings page have a much simpler 2 type of WAN settings configuration as compared to mine.

Thank you.

would you know if it is ok to keep the SSID the same as the main for the both main and extender?

Yes, all working perfectly now as using the Wifi extender at my living hall downstairs (main router on 1st floor) using a LAN port directly connecting a PC desktop ...the speed was ~30Mbps on wireless and now ~80Mbps on wired RJ45 cable connection!

If you used same SSID & password on the Wifi Extender, the devices connected to it may suffer up to 50% slower speed as compared to a direct main router connection. However, it is more convenient as your devices will connect seamlessly to the strongest signal as you move around.

You may try to create a different SSID to check your speed and use the method that gives you the best result.
My preference is always to use wired for non-mobile devices like desktop, laptop, and TV streaming devices (where LAN port is available). Hope this helps too.

A big thank you to delaciox again.. as he provided detailed tips in getting my 'wireless bridge' to work!

Hi, I have figured out all the steps.

But what default gateway should I change to?

My router gateway now is 192.168.1.1.

my repeater default gateway is 192.168.1.254,
so should I change my repeater gateway to 192.168.1.2?

And i cant access to repeater router 192.168.1.2 too after changing.

Your help is highly appreciated! have been struggling at this part.

I too, couldn't access the repeater after disabling the DHCP server and changing the address.

Then I connected the cable between the primary router and the repeater and now I can access the repeater!

Hello Dijon, I have some questions

1. When I go to Network -> WAN Settings, I saw eInternet but there is no edit link, I only saw the view link at the action column. What do I do? I inspected and removed the "disabled" code but there's no way to save it when I tick again the "Enabled VLAN ID". In this same page, the VLAN mode available were Maxis Own Build, Maxis-TM, SACOFA, CTS and TNB-Setia Haruman, which is the correct mode?. Did I do anything wrong?

2. It's confirmed that the Archer C5v that was given by Maxis, it can work as a wireless repeater?

Same issues exactly, but my issue was worse, there's no "Save" button at all.

Please advise here, gurus, thank you!

For the 1st part, login as root with username MaxSysAdm and password of Ng88Mxs@2019!

Then you'll get an option
As for others I'm unsure.

I gave up on getting WDS to work on this router. First thing I did was searching for the WDS option ... this firmware/router doesn't have the "enable WDS" options anywhere in the settings for some reason. Device support WDS bridge though so maybe it's maxis firmware problem. Tried find stock/custom firmware, no avail, probably 'cause this router is only for Maxis/Malaysia so no one bother with it.
Then this guide. I followed and complete all step in this guide still can't get it working. instruction somewhat unclear, different options are shown and probably different firmware version. *shrug
Might be easier to a. just get 30m network cable and do it the old way or maybe buy ~RM100 moddable WDS router instead ...

If you're willing to try, the stock unbranded model of this router is the TP-Link Archer vr1200v

There's 1 difference though, the vr1200v has DSL port whereas the maxis one doesn't.

Still if you're willing to try and risk a brick, give that firmware a try
