Hi all, has been a while since I posted anything in this and previous threads.
Just want to ask, the current trend is 29 wheels for AM bike?
Is 27.5 slowly phasing out already? From what I see, most bike manufacturers' website have like a lot of 29 models but only 1 or 2 models for 27.5 (AM bikes).
*
Usually the 27.5 are for frame size S. But it depends on the manufacturer.

Now trending is mullet set up
Front 29 , rear 27.5

My main concern is uphill climbing..... i wonder how the performance compare to other tyre like DHR and DHF
*
What's your headtube angle ?
That will affect the climbing. Tyres ,... Don't think it is so significant.

Happy Chinese New Year. Didn’t know got such thread here. Just got back into riding, and have the interest for trail mountain biking.

Made the decision and bought an entry level polygon premier 5 hardtail. Last time I cycled was when I was a teen. Used to do trial riding. Injured myself a lot. Lol.

Now everyday rain. Susah wanna go try pcp. Any advise for a beginner to try out some trails? Klang valley area.

Actually the new trend which is slowly emerging is actually mullet designs. 29" at the front and 27.5" at the rear. Look at the new Santa Cruz Bronson which came with mixed wheels and also the Specialized Status as well.

29 and mullet (29 front and 27.5 rear) is the trend for now because thats what the bike makers are pushing. Definitely less new and fancy 27.5 only bikes are coming out now, but parts for 27.5 will be still around for while for sure. I am still on 27.5 and wont be changing any time soon because I got no money. lol.

I'm way too OCD for mullet configuration. Mullet is still not adopted by the whole bike industry yet right? Have to wait and see how it goes. hmm.gif

More to compensate for the rear linkage design, you are referring to the trunnion mounts right?
*
Now 265mm/267mm so less can be choose. Most brand no longer produce anymore. Really GG.

A lot of the larger brands have at least 1 mullet bike in their range. Some racers already have adopted it in both downhill competition and also enduro. Haven't seen mullet for XC yet.

Just got my brand new Maxxis ikon 2.35 to replace my old DHF 2.35 front....
Surprisingly, after changing up the front .... now feel very light and more lively when engage in the uphill climb but im going to miss the stability the DHF provide when going downhill.... Those ikon especially size 2.35 are freaking expensive tires.....can but 2pcs of ikon 2.20 already doh.gif

What you using at the back?
I believe when it comes to climbing or rolling resistance, rear tyre have bigger effect.

Yes ikon got good rolling Liao. I remember ride with road bikers on my Mtb to klia using ikon. I can keep up with them. I loose them on the downhill and flat but catch them on the climb. My Strava shows 28kmh average which was a surprise to me with my mtb and big ass ikons

not sure if it is me or just the new tire feeling....Ikon feel like it had some auto assist when climb up.... im going to drop the width of my tire to 2.20 once i change the new wheel set this week.... giving it even more light weight feeling and see how it perform hmm.gif .... probably i will change to rekon race for abit more downhill grip or maybe a dissector and lose abit of rolling speed.

Changing to lighter tire or wheels definitely will feel massive different.
I remember last time I change my standard wheels to ZTR crest rims+XT hubs+lightweight spoke+Racing Ray/Ralph tubeless tire, it feels like rocket laugh.gif .
Especially on trails, confirm can feels the different.
