QUOTE(horns @ Jun 14 2021, 11:00 AM) not sure. maybe you should wait for others for suggestions, and ask the same at mymkb fb page as well. You remind me to open my FB... I hate that place.tbh, most prebuilts are less than optimal at stock, unless you tune them accordingly. there are discussions about wireless boards at mymkb fb page. you might wanna take a look too. use keyword like 'wireless' and search the group posts. And nooo.....missed a custom cable GB last month.... |

QUOTE(irsyadfy @ Jun 15 2021, 03:56 PM) hi, looks intelesting. From his reply, its a compact full size aka 1800 aka CP form factor.what does removed 3spaces/cap means? and base on the link, what does it means by highlight RGB no other RGB? is this hot swap? QUOTE(cat_food_lover @ Jun 15 2021, 06:33 PM) Just a sample from seller, mine will be new board, new design but smtg similar. I see. Thanks. Just wanted to confirm the form factor. The board didnt come with any key cap and i need to purchased additional. He said got extra 20 key caps and will free 5 TTC brown switches as pre order lol. The board is 94 keys, but the function key like normal 100 or 108, just removed the space and make it more compact. Yup, got RGB and it's customizable. YES! IT'S HOT SWAP! but i didnt go for TTC but box, limited budget lol. Will share actual photo when he start to install my board. |

QUOTE(Zgames @ Jun 20 2021, 01:04 PM) Hey guys, new to custom mkb, if I wanna make a full size mkb how much should I save up? Not including keycaps since I'll just buy some cheapass one on shopee. 200 ringgit for a Tecware Phantom (non-elite) from Shopee. Hotswap but you are limited to Outemu switches. I'm still researching switches right now, currently I'm using Gateron Browns and I'm probably going to find tactile switches on the new build. 300 ringgit for 11x10 Gazzew Boba U4T switches from Pantheon Keys. Badass 500 ringgit entry level combo that I wish existed and knew about when I started the hobby. Only thing I personally don't like is the low profile design of the case (visible switches). |

Working on site in the office today. My setup. Took me a few days to get used to the split. Now I'm getting 80+ on monkeytype which is normal for me. This post has been edited by niakulah: Jun 21 2021, 01:23 PM horns liked this post

Short review of the 4 tactile switches that I considered for my endgame board. L-R Cherry RGB Brown, Outemu Sky with clear no slot top, JWK Shogoki, Gazzew Boba U4T 1. Cherry browns were my first love so it will always hold a special place in my heart. These particular switches have generic 67g gold springs, bag lubed in 105, housings are lubed with 205G0, and filmed with TX films. They are smooth, light tactiles and with the white nylon bottoms, have a nice thock to them, and very low wobble after filming. With a bit (a lot actually) of work, this is a switch that I really love to use. My baseline to compare the other switches to. 2. Outemu Sky. Removed the original nylon top and replaced with clear no slot tops also from Outemu. Both components were developed in collaboration with Gazzew. I guess you could say it is the spiritual successor of the Boba U4T. Despite having a nylon bottom, this switch does not sound very nice to me. And the tactile bump feels a bit weird to me even after lubing. I think the start of the bump is a bit 'sharp'? It kinda feels like it is about to get stuck, then you overcome the bump and bottom out. 3. JWK Shogoki. These were from a GB. JWK Rara recolored to match the colors from Neon Genesis Evangelion (forgive me if I got that wrong, I'm not a fan of this anime). With a special 65g linear switch from Thic Thock. Covid delays plus lousy GB planning by Thic Thock (and lousy communication with me personally) meant that these switches arrived very late, so I ended up building with the U4Ts before these even arrived. And I must say I'm glad I did so. These were my first JWK switches and the legendary smoothness of the housing is well warranted. But other than that, just like the Outemu Sky, it did not deliver a nice sound despite a nylon bottom. To my ears, even my Cherry RGB Browns sounded better. Add to that, this is the first switch that I bought (including testers) that actually have a noticeable spring noise. I did not lube as I plan to sell it off, but I am nevertheless disappointed. Even unlube Cherries do not have this issue to me. The bump is nice and light though. Very slightly more tactile than the browns. 4. Gazzew Boba U4T. My new favourites. Long pole stems in a proprietary nylon blend housings. The pole bottom out delivers on the Thocks. Already smooth without lube, after lubing it is even smoother and sounds better. Very tight tolerances, no filming needed. And with very very light lube to the tactile bumps, a small amount of tactility is lost and smoothness gained, a tactical decision. Coupled with a light (to me) 62g spring, I'm getting the light tactile that I want, no wobble and beautiful sound. The only downside is the tops are opaque which I wanted clear for lighting purposes, but with my custom clear acrylic case, it turns out that didn't matter after all. irsyadfy, Currylaksa, and 2 others liked this post

QUOTE(horns @ Jun 29 2021, 02:05 PM) it's good to find out your favorites, out of the sea of switches (or other parts of your boards). for no. 3, it might be due to the leaf, not spring. we can always make springs to go quiet with lubing. Oh for sure we can. But all the switches I like sounded good stock, lubing and other work make them sound much better. I guess I was just disappointed because of the high expectations from the hype of the GB. |

Thic Thock themselves have posted that their current line of springs is less than perfect when used in JWK switches! From their latest Discord announcement: "TT Spring V2 We are going to bring something new to the market very soon. Arrangements and details as follows, We are going to dish out a lineup that is made specifically for JWK switches, meanwhile still retain the Cherry standard spring we are offering at the moment. What's the difference? The difference is that the internal structure of JWK switches are generally different than of Cherry MX. Our current lineup caters mostly of the Cherry MX switches. When it is used in JWK switches, there are still noticeable pings, which is why we are offering JWK switches spring, in hopes of eliminating the unwanted spring ping, as well as offering better compatibility -> performance with the JWK lineups" |

QUOTE(malleus @ Jul 7 2021, 08:06 AM) I do find that these are better out of the packaging than the glorious pandas, and cheaper too. you can use them as it is, or just apply a small amount of lube to the base of the spring and the rails of the bottom housing (this is what gazzew recommended if you want to lube these switches) Yup I saw Gazzew's lubing method as well as his recommendation to use lube thinner than 205G0. But he admitted that his method is more for speed and efficiency. Since I wasn't really pressed for time, I tested using my normal lubing method (Taeha's method) and was happy with the results, so that's what I ended up using. It's this same switch that won my wife who's a long time linear user to the tactile gang too, although she uses the silent U4 for her office keyboard. |

QUOTE(thales.of.miletus @ Jul 20 2021, 03:28 AM) Any suggestions for a keyboard that has a rotary knob that can also function as jog dial for video playback/editing? QUOTE(Currylaksa @ Jul 20 2021, 12:25 PM) I think any custom mech with rotary knob will need you to configure via QMK, if you want to use for video editing. Second any board with encoder running QMK. If you're looking to get something cheapish, check out this group buy, ending in a few days:Premade keyboards like Logitech Craft have it easily-mapped. https://ffkeebs.com/collections/puca You can pop in a 23mm knob on there and use the rest of the keys as macros. |

QUOTE(Currylaksa @ Jul 21 2021, 01:21 PM) Any suggestion of a Medium Tactile switch? JWK Rara? The Shogoki switches I was complaining a few pages back are a Rara recolour with ThicThock springs. Not super tactile like T1, Boba U4T, Zealios V2 and Holy Panda. Not light like Brown and Pewters. So far can only think of Ergo Clears, Naevy and Durock Medium. |

I did a foam mod. Not the kind you usually think of in this hobby, but just so I could reuse my Leopold full size carry case.
And a side shot to appreciate KAT Eternal's colour gradient and the KAT profile itself. Not sure if you guys can see, but how exact the CAD file had to be to get that tiny reset hole in the right place. |

QUOTE(bansai @ Aug 15 2021, 12:11 PM) Currently building Feker Glaze 98, Kiwi switches, Durock plate mounts. Sounds horrible, so trying out different acoustic mods. Testing out masking tape on PCB as there is not space in case for foams. If I'm looking at the same thing, it's probably because the PCB is mostly resting on the bottom acrylic sheet. There needs to be some room there for nice sound IMO.But I think it is necessary to do it like that since it's a sandwich mount with hotswap PCB. If it was soldered, the PCB would be firmly attached to the plate and there would be no problem to add another layer or 2 between the plate and bottom sheet. |

I was just looking at this the other day and thinking I could pair it with BOW alphas to make a knock off Rudy. But that colour is really off man.» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « in terms of qualities that affect sound and feel, it's similar to jtk/gmk. imo it's a good option for those who look for triple-shot at retail. |
