QUOTE(Theoutspokenguy @ Nov 20 2020, 10:29 AM) They claim it unlimited why will they be data balance? Because the 50gb is consider over abuse limit or FUP. Ordinary people use 50gb is a lot if can exceed consider abuse not data balance. What do you mean by over abuse? You can use your phone data limit to control its not 100% accurate but its as close it can be. Is watching online TV considered abusive data usage? In fact, it shouldn't even be advertised as unlimited when there's FUP limit. It's a misleading ad. It should state 3Mbps or 6Mbps up to 50GB per month. Then it's clear transparent to customer. I know its still considered unlimited because that provide 512kbps after the FUP, but this TnC is stated in another Q&A page, which is not straightforward. One needs to research more to understand the package. Using mobile device to track the data usage may be a way to monitor the data usage from customer end, but how about from service provender end? |

QUOTE(EvOliver @ Nov 21 2020, 10:57 AM) What do you mean by over abuse? Welcome to Malaysia friend the fine line is after 50gb itd 512kbps so consider unlimited. No choice Malaysia don't appreciate extra or bonus. Previous many fourmer show-off they abuse terabyte of data's no throttled. Now telco smart they start putting FUP so everyone can enjoy the data so yes its consider abusing data usage because if your goal to watch movie high definition and crazy even 10tb is not enough so isn't that call data abuser? You need plan your usage. Is watching online TV considered abusive data usage? In fact, it shouldn't even be advertised as unlimited when there's FUP limit. It's a misleading ad. I don't take hotlink unlimited for a phone abuse data then said watching TV online consider abusing right? All telco got fup question is how much. This you need thank malaysian that overabuse it then they show off their success online so some of us can't abuse lightly. This post has been edited by Theoutspokenguy: Nov 21 2020, 11:39 AM |

You need plan your usage. This kind of practice isn’t unique to Malaysia. Even in the west where consumer rights are better protected, they all do the same too. Just refer to USA’s T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon unlimited plan. All markets their unlimited plan but with FUP. Some market it more like MaxisONE Prime, as in no hard FUP but after a certain usage they may their absolute discretion cap your mobile speed. I suppose t&c like this is the reason why some MaxisONE Prime subscribers experienced almost unusable data after they have reached 300GB FUP whilst some didn’t, because Maxis says whether they will throttle your video steaming speed is at their absolute discretion.Like I watch Netflix I take celcom broadband with 1tb until now cannot finish then at home I use unifi unlimited. From all the replies I'm reading here, it seems nobody knows how to check their data consumption with exact value from the network service provider. I'll guess I'll have to find out from the Hotlink/Maxis customer care personnel then, when I have to mood to call in. And hope they can answer me. At first thought someone might have called up before to check it out.
My question was just as simple as how to check and how to be aware or the exact data consumption before the throttle down. Similar to other high speed Internet plans which Hotlink/Maxis would normally show in the hotlink app for its balance before completion. It's just not showing in the so called unlimited plan. Let's don't compare or criticise country for this small matter. It's just a business practice, presentation, communication, and experience in which each business provider may have missed out or just not doing it right to customers' expectation. We as consumers should just try to understand and provide feedback to the service providers so that they can improve. If they don't improve, then again consumers have the right to reject and find other options. If we look back many years ago, we'll thank that we have many conveniences today. It's just some fine tuning and touch up we need to get from the services. |

I called hotlink customer care, the fella just asked me to go to phone settings and checked data usage. They also don't have exact figure on your data usage. Anyway screw that, I am using celcom unlimited , better network coverage at my area, it just don't have unlimited call or sms. Let see what is the limit of celcom unlimited next. Is it Celcom Home Wireless or Celcom MEGA Unlimited M/L ? Celcom MEGA Unlimited M/L do have unlimited calls. |

I've tried to browse through the *100# menus, but couldn't find any of the items providing any data usage detail. No luck. This post has been edited by EvOliver: Nov 23 2020, 03:55 PM |

Thanks for sharing. I haven't got time to call them yet. So it seems they can't check too? I believe they may have to redirect to another technical team to access a more detailed data of the line. 🤔 Terrible for such lack in data transparency to the customer/user.Anyway screw that, I am using celcom unlimited , better network coverage at my area, it just don't have unlimited call or sms. QUOTE(asamalikum @ Nov 26 2020, 01:07 PM) Could be a ploy for you to use their postpaid service. But of course this is just my wild guess. Similar to how Maxis VoLTE is available only to Maxis Postpaid and to certain devices only. Then again in the case of VoLTE, eventually Maxis and Celcom will have no choice but to fully enable VoLTE as 3G is to be shut down end of next year. During the early days of Digi VoLTE roll out, there were many problems too. But now Digi VoLTE works even on standalone modem that supports VoLTE. So I believe both VoLTE and VoWiFi will come to all Maxis customers eventually, they are just buying themselves time. |
