I recall some ktards got upset when people advised them to improve their unit's sound insulation due to noisy neighbours who quarrel loudly. They argued that the proper solution is to get those neighbours to shut up.

Let's say to insulate a condo master bedroom. What is the usual solution and rates for the job?

Idk, it also depends on where the noise is from. If it's from outside, I'd start with upgrading to double glazed windows and using thicker curtains.

The unit above the mofo is penthouse. I can afford the penthouse if selling off current unit.

Help me to understand this correctly

U can afford the penthouse by selling off current unit

Means the market price for current unit has increased compared to when u purchased it, to the price level of the penthouse price

But, doesnt the price of penthouse appreciate/increate/go up as well?

Spend few nights doing loud knocks in the bedroom at 2-3am. Just bang loudly few times at random hours so they won't get chance to record you. See how they respond.

Worst case scenario, get this:

Have same experience, the unit above mine got a crazy family...everyday lots of different kinds of noise from door slamming , bedroom doors opening and closing every 5-10mins , ppl shouting , footsteps , furniture creaking noise

Confronted them and they even got the nerve to say it's not them lol. Complained to guard and management many times...what else can I do? Final option is to move out, but luckily they are renting above not the owners 🙄

Bro... not all types of unit get the same incremental appreciation rate. Penthouse units do enjoy their price increased but:
My current unit type, current price is more than 2x of original price I bought.
Penthouse does not flip 2x, maybe 1.5x to 1.7x of its original price.

Of course I do take account of my current salary.

Many people think landed is a solution but it is not.

Landed unless you live in comer lot or bangalow, chances are you will hear noises from your left and right neighbour.

You are right, due diligence on both side of neighbour need to be done and check whether they are having behavioural or thuggish issues.
But if you are buying a new house from developer, it will be your luck.

Btw, why din't you get those corner units for condo?

Those whereby your unit is standalone and no neighbor sticking to your unit left/right

Most so called corner unit condos designed in a way that staggered like ladder. I don't like the above unit throw rubbish, cigarette butts into my balcony... haha

Actually, serious answer here. If you can afford it, build a second ceiling for your unit and insulate the f*** out of it. Will drastically reduce the noise.

Sometimes just insulating the ceiling does not help.
The noise/vibration travels along the wall as well... I am not joking. I can feel the vibration when that guy dropped something heavy on his floor. Maybe a dumb bell or kettle bell.

In a condo unit, chances are you will hear noises from your left, right, below and upper neighbours. This is in addition to sounds from furniture dragging, footsteps and dropped things.

Then you will have to contend with golden showers and rubbish thrown from above. And cigarette + joss stick burning smells from below.

But in apartments you may have neighbours left, right, opposite, top, bottom plus the corridor outside.

Landed doesn't mean no disturbance but the problem is less severe than apartments where neighbours from 2 floors away can disturb you. If you are sensitive to noise getting a landed property is the best option if you can afford it.

Lol go to taobao buy the noise revenge device that you can place on your ceiling to imitate hacking/knocking noise to your neighbour above... but then it is not advisable to install it long term as the vibration could damage your ceiling in the longer term.

I see stories of people putting it on when going out of work in the morning, only taking it off when come back from work.. the neighbour will regret and try to behave after that...an eye for an eye

Hi, I can hear footstep noises from my neighbour above starting from 6am everyday. Does install false ceiling help in this case?

It will probably reduce, not eliminate the noise. Low frequency sounds are very hard to damp out. Unless the footstep noises bother you a lot just leave it instead of spending expensively on a partial solution.
