My xbox 360 which i bought a month ago started scratching my dvds after i bought oblivion (no idea why) a few days ago. Gonna send my 360 into Djinn as soon as possible n hope that he gets new stock fast.
My oblivion dvd completely wont load a conversation with certain npcs and instead will show the 'the disc is unreadable' tab. My Gears cd has also been affected, albeit only a little. the scratches on the dvd is minimal, probably about 2 small scratches and this causes the game to 'lag' about a second sometimes.
Anyway, the reason i set up this thread is to get feedback from everyone about known methods to remove scratches on dvds and hopefully, a suitable method can be found to revive my oblivion dvd and maybe also fix my gears dvd to make them work like new.

I had similar problems with Oblivion. Use toothpaste. Google, or search for my posts in the oblivion thread. Lazy to type

Yes... my f**king console just destroyed my GoW and Oblivion... I dont know what's the reason that this always happen to these 2 games. However, I managed to use toothpaste to revive both of them and my oblivion has been running good as new while GoW still shows the dirty disc error once in a while.
I suspect that games with a lot data streaming will be affected the most because the lens is constantly reading the disc. GoW is streaming textures while Oblivion is streaming data for the world.
My other discs are mighty fine with no or little scratches only.

Other games jus like wut hezda said, have little or no scratches at all. Gears also a bit scratch only.

Helow~ to all Xbox 360 user a little guide HOW TO AVOID your Precios Games such as GOW,Oblivion which mostly get spoil cause of the scratch, I have a few step to prevent this thing, BUT is not 100% okay? » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « First of all, Here you have your beloved Xbox360 which could get 3ROD which is one of a kind super diseas for you =P *NoFlame^^* Open your xbox360 trap there you will see the Game you insert or play *example : i'm playing GOW * Put your finger into the DVD hole as u see in the image below And then take up and the result will be like this ^.^ And this is the back of the DVD ^^ without and scratch =X Put The DVD game back in the cover Press at the middle to let to clip there There your games is in the cover SAFE IN SOUND ^.^ ANY scratch that happen to your DVD not my faulty!! NOTE THIS!! IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This post has been edited by PrivateJohn: Aug 3 2007, 11:22 AM

those who experienced oblivion/GeOW scratched discs, issit because they have a bad batch of samsung drives? according to that earlier link posted, only toshiba-samsung drives affected?
but certain designs of green cases used for 360 games really have a "tight" and "inflexible" plastic spindle. good to secure the disc, but really difficult and worrisome to remove.

Thanks to the mighty Darlie toothpaste (the classic flavor one ah, not the jelly one). Before my GoW was sent to its oblivion, my DVD rom made a weird noise and BAM the dirty disc error message came out. I think the same thing also happened to my Oblivion, before it succumbed to the error, my DVD rom drive also made the same noise.

I wonder how many people here have or had that problem? I have that problem as well...but only selected discs. I find it that games with a lot of data streaming are the ones that cause this (to me). For example, my GH2, DJ Icon makes the loudest noise when I exit to dashboard. Some others like Homecourt has no braking sound. oh and about moving the console from horizontal to vertical while the game is playing is the number one thing NOT to do right off the bat. They even had the sticker on the dvd drive giving a warning about that.
