I just spent some hefty amount of money for my car compressor+condenser replacement today. My car air conditioner compressor decided to end its life last week after 8 years serving us. Is it normal for car air conditioner compressor to die on you that early? I was expecting it to last at least for 15 years

How long did you car air conditioner compressor last before it died?

Did you service the compressor every 2 years?

I only sent my car to SC. I just let them do whatever preventive maintenance they recommended.

Need to service at least once every year or 2 years..mine still running strong after 14 years..

has a national brand air cons, bought in 1990, finally kaput in 2018, ya thats the most reliable I ever had. In a way thats freaking 30 years. Not sure u guys realise National brand back then was crazily reliable

Most probably magnetic clutch dead
But ur friendly mechanic encourage u to change new

I think there was a recommended schedule for servicing for every xxxxxkm interval, but it was never highlighted during the service.

Probably. But SC seldom repair magnetic clutch from what I read in the internet.

How much change

SC generally not responsible for periodic maintenance of A/C (replacing compressor oil etc). some offer this for a small fee.

Over here we don’t mention price, otherwise later knea bash

They do have aircond servicing package, but they never pushed/market that to the customer. I guess next time I have to follow their PM interval schedule and ask for it when the times come.

My wife’s old myvi SE 2008 AC compressor went kaput after 6 years of ownership.

First time magnetic clutch went out on 2012.
Then twice on 2014.
Decided to replace the old compressor to Denso brand.

Running good till now.

Mitsubishi.. More than 10 years, still running

i still have saga 2008 which compressor still in use without change any oil from compressor till now.

8 years is not early dude. And dont compare ur car with ur neighbourhood. His compressor last 15 years but he doing short distance travel only..

While u always doing long distance trip and do karak trip often. Long distance trip will shorten the compressor lifespan since workload is higher compare to town driving.

Very subjective. Lifespan depend on usage. However nothing beats the old Wira aircon ... the best.

How did you know I did passed karak highway often? You’re a psychic?

I guess you and the guy above was right. Should measure in operating hours or km to get a more precise statistic.

But my old wira compressor also kong at 7 years of ownership.

No need lor. Send denso outside much cheaper. Just service every 18 months. I just send my car a day b4 mco on 17mac. Total damage is rm375. 3 years b4, change my compressor at denso also. 6 years usage kaput already. Maintain 140kmh all the time and long distance frequently make my car compressor kaput at year 6th. Lol.
