I just spent some hefty amount of money for my car compressor+condenser replacement today. My car air conditioner compressor decided to end its life last week after 8 years serving us. Is it normal for car air conditioner compressor to die on you that early? I was expecting it to last at least for 15 years sweat.gif

How long did you car air conditioner compressor last before it died?

Did you service the compressor every 2 years?
*
I only sent my car to SC. I just let them do whatever preventive maintenance they recommended.

Need to service at least once every year or 2 years..mine still running strong after 14 years..

I think there was a recommended schedule for servicing for every xxxxxkm interval, but it was never highlighted during the service.

Over here we don’t mention price, otherwise later knea bash sweat.gif

SC generally not responsible for periodic maintenance of A/C (replacing compressor oil etc). some offer this for a small fee.
*
They do have aircond servicing package, but they never pushed/market that to the customer. I guess next time I have to follow their PM interval schedule and ask for it when the times come.

8 years is not early dude. And dont compare ur car with ur neighbourhood. His compressor last 15 years but he doing short distance travel only..

While u always doing long distance trip and do karak trip often. Long distance trip will shorten the compressor lifespan since workload is higher compare to town driving.
*
How did you know I did passed karak highway often? You’re a psychic? hmm.gif

QUOTE(Ray2021 @ May 12 2020, 11:01 PM)
Very subjective.  Lifespan depend on usage.  However nothing beats the old Wira aircon ... the best.
*
I guess you and the guy above was right. Should measure in operating hours or km to get a more precise statistic.

But my old wira compressor also kong at 7 years of ownership.

No need lor. Send denso outside much cheaper. Just service every 18 months. I just send my car a day b4 mco on 17mac. Total damage is rm375. 3 years b4, change my compressor at denso also. 6 years usage kaput already. Maintain 140kmh all the time and long distance frequently make my car compressor kaput at year 6th. Lol.
*
Denso still provide servicing? I read last time they stop providing air cond servicing already. Only parts. Or maybe that is only applicable to their Glenmarie branch.

I guess doing long distance often is a contributing factor to the short lifespan of some aircond compressors hmm.gif What car you owned that compressor died on 6th year?

So u passed karak a lot or not?. I just guessed.lol

As I passed karak a lot, my kompressor kong fast on year 6th. Seems like not logical, but a few car aircond shop told me the same. Small cc, long distance, a bit fast cruising speed, all contribute to lifespan of compressor since it put a lot of stress on compressor.
*
Not so often lah. Minimum 2x a year for balik kampung (to kelantan) + 3/4 business trip to east coast.

But I always travel to penang or johor at least once a month.

Yeah they still operate.

What car I owned?. Honda city. Maybe 1500cc not enough to climb fast2 karak without put a lot of stress on car component. Btw, that is only major problem with city.

My accord on the other hand 8 years, compressor still running fine, but hydraulic power steering is culprit. Way more expensive than compressor. If got choice, better compressor kaput than power steering kaput.
*
Maybe smaller CC car running at higher RPM stressing the compressor more than higher CC car.

I thought compressor is one the most expensive component in the car bar the engine and gearbox. Now I’m worried since you mentioned the power steering since my brother in laws car need to change its EPS at 11th year. Another 3 years to go..

QUOTE(zeist @ May 12 2020, 11:26 PM)
My satria compressor is still original

Changed radiator, condenser and fan

Satria mileage now is 600k
*
You’re lucky. My wira SE kaput on 7th year at around 130k mileage.

QUOTE(burn22 @ May 12 2020, 11:39 PM)
if my old bm, lasted 10yrs!!
honda, almost 8yrs... still ok, but ada bunyi bearing sikit.
estima, still ok after 2yrs+
*
What about mileage? Since you have so many cars I guess it spreads evenly across those cars?

QUOTE(adamw @ May 12 2020, 11:42 PM)
Shit, I voted before I see car cry.gif
Car kaput very fast, all my cars 2-3 years only
*
I guess most people only read headlines, draw conclusion, then only check back the content laugh.gif

No wonder so many lasted more than 10 years. Home aircond only rosak capacitor, seldom the compressor itself.

How do you know compressor? Sometimes gas leak at valve only. They dont like cheap solution, small profit.
*
Gas full. Compressor not running/not pressurizing. I guess they would have diagnosed it before making any conclusion. 2 years back I changed cooling coil, they didn’t jumped into conclusion that compressor rosak that time, so I pretty much trust their honesty in doing their diagnosis.

Eps is newer types of power steering and very durable one. Hydraulic is old types and many car manufacturer already move to eps. Hydraulic is very problematic. Even preve and suprima got problem because is hydraulic type. Eps can go more than 10years.
*
8 years old accord should be the pondana model right? That one using hydraulic not EPS? My brother in law’s car was a 2004 corolla. Maybe I did assume it uses EPS not hydraulic, I’m not so sure now sweat.gif

9 years almost into 10 years, on the variable displacement compressor of my ford focus. Never been serviced, never been regas, driven everyday like a mad man, almost 200k, still blowing ice cold.

more than 10 years, never do maintenance and still boleh pakai...

maybe luck?

According to the small sample here, it’s 50-50 luck to be able to survive beyond 10 years..

SC sell u new one, take the faulty unit and sell to outside workshop, workshop rebuild and sell again

Mana ada like that brother. SC always give you back the faulty unit, unless when they change it for free during warranty period, at least that is the practice in Toyota SC Shah Alam.
