I tried RM1 and click next. Only need me to authorise and THB 7.67 is inside my account
*
Then you already paid 0.04 baht as fees already as it is deducted

You only need to compare with actual live rates because you should be getting 7.71 instead

Which means you are getting less from HLB and why on earth converting so little when you cannot get anything for less than 50 baht 🤦‍♀️

HLB: RM1000 can get THB7674.80 despite rate is 7.6748
WISE: RM1000 can get THB7,654.20 despite rate is 7.70699

I know the rate is better in wise, but i get less amount when converting in wise at the end.
We should focus on what we get at the end, right?

PS: RM1 is just for demonstration  biggrin.gif
*
Seems like HLB it is better rate at more 20 baht

You should go for whichever who gives more for your RM in this case HLB

RHB gives the best rate, better than even Wise and HLB to convert to USD.

MYR to 1000USD

RHB MCA: RM4442.00
HLB Wallet: RM4464.30
Wise: RM4455

Thanks. As a buyer, we're not charged by Paypal - only the sellers are. But there is still some bank charges for the conversion, so I am seeing if using Wise will even be cheaper.
*
If comparing the exchange rates yes it is cheaper compared to PayPal which has horrible rates 🤦‍♀️

is it really take so long to delivery the wise card? The apps shows get by 27/4 if i apply now. I need to travel on 23/4  cry.gif
*
1 month timeframe is standard to account for unexpected delays 🤦‍♀️

Just apply and the physical card is not feasible for payWave anyway so just use the digital card which is way more convenient unless you don’t have internet access on your travel

Try this. I yet to try too. Found in Reddit by /u/deepfried_mind
I will use a UK address.

Workaround:
Issue a digital card from a different country (basically change your address to another country, create a digital card, change it back to your actual address). The newly created digital card can be added to apple wallet for contactless.

Change your country under your profile on the top right corner -> Edit, once you've changed your country, the next digital card you make will be the country your profile is set in. Worked for both myself and a friend of mine, we changed to the UK.

Note that your physical card will still be the same, ie. Wave & Apple Wallet incompatible, only the digital card will work.

Edit: Just tested. Confirmed working.
Easy don't need to bring physical card out overseas in the future.

QUOTE(mr_robot @ Mar 29 2023, 11:57 PM)
How to use the digital card? Google Pay and Samsung Pay does not support the card.
*
Read the above not sure whether it still works on this work around

I have soem euro in wise. But when I pay for hotel (in Malaysia) it deduct my msia account instead.

Will it be auto deduct correctly when I was in euro?
*
If you have RM then yes it will default the local currency 1st then only foreign currency

Yes technically it will deduct Euro then only other available foreign currency in your account

Ha? So if I go to euro.. I need to make sure my rm is zero so it will use euro?
*
No need to be zero 🤦‍♀️

The card machine usually will default to the local currency and then only Wise send the instructions on whether which currency will deduct

Which mean they will only follow when I am in euro ( they will deduct euro(

If I am still in Malaysia paying online. It will not deduct euro but rm instead.
Same goes to if I am in Singapore it will deduct in sg instead of euro if I am paying for hotel in euro?
*
Then you need to check the payment gateway for the hotel you paid online because they will ask will for which currency unless you choose default because you paying in Malaysia gateway

That you need to check with your online hotel payment gateway

*
Why on earth using Duitnow when FPX it is the better way for automatic and instant transfer 🤦‍♀️

If you do transfer on Friday expect it to be delayed since it the weekend and if you do it on a bank holiday it will be even longer 🤦‍♀️

Receiving money from others.
Poor Wise company.

If you receive from others it will take 3 working days 🤦‍♀️

It is not instant because it is using IBG

You should ask the other person to duit now to you instead if you want instantly 🤦‍♀️

I have been using Wise to transfer my pension back from Aust (Aud to Rm) nearly every month. On average i transfer about A$7k-8k/mth. The transfer is fast and i get the funds almost immediately (about 10 secs later). Rate is usually about 1.6c less than the mid-rate.

I have been using Maybank (telegraphic transfer) to receive from CBA Aust before and Wise is so much better. So happy now using Wise.
*
Don’t forget you better rates and less fees compared to Maybank 🤦‍♀️ It is good for you now as you can control when to exchange and get favourable rates

I just sold off a property in Australia and expecting to receive the proceeds in my AZ bank soon. My plan is to bring back the funds here as I am consolidating my assets. Preference is to maintain the funds in AUD instead of converting to MYR. I think Wise can only hold RM20k worth of money, so option to use Wise for transfer look not feasible as anything above 20k will be converted to MYR and deposited into local bank account. So now I am thinking of TT old fashion way to my local bank's Foreign Currency accounts instead and dump it to FD after. Hopefully not too many questions asked by bank where the funds are coming from...
*
If you have SC Australia banks it will be quite seamless even transferring 100k AUD anytime particularly on personal account

HSBC in the meantime a lot of questions plus audit from both the banks and BNM but otherwise it quite seamless as well

When you transferring from Australia just to get fee waiver from that end and you will save up abit to be offset those high FX spread markups

QUOTE(hedfi @ Apr 16 2023, 06:19 PM)
Me too able to change country 🤷
*
Iinm those who apply during the 1st batch while the card was free would be able to change

Mine as well can change anytime but no point for me as I have a few different countries of Wise account

Quick question,

Any Thailand ATM that doesn't charge additional fee to withdraw from Wise's thai baht account?

or all ATM withdrawal in Thailand subject to network fee by the bank? Couldn't find a clear answer from the thread.
*
Citibank is fee free last I tried last year but very limited

Newbie here. Recently gotten my Wise card and I'm planning to add in 5k baht inside but having compare today and yesterday rate. Shouldn't the lower rate be cheaper?

Also, the instruction stated I need to make in store payment to activate the card. Can I add money in Thai Baht and when I'm in Bangkok I can start to active there? Or must I activate locally first?
*
Yes the lesser you pay in RM which means getting the same amount for less

Suggest you to put both in baht and RM and if you sure you are the best rate during your travel then put more in Baht

QUOTE(Teutonic Knight @ Apr 18 2023, 06:19 PM)
Ohh okay thank you sir. For the in store payment, can it include restaurant or bakery shop that accepts VISA?

Just to reaffirm, I just put money in RM and not in Baht when I am in Bangkok, it will auto convert without any issue?

Do you think is better to put in RM or Baht when I am in Bangkok as I’m seeing the rate now is fluctuating?
*
Yes as long as the payment terminal accepts Visa

Auto conversion is subject to Wise network but it should have 99% service availability with low downtime because it is critical service

If baht is fluctuating don’t put all at once only put the amount you need spend

Indeed fees are around 0.7% as confirmed by Wise themselves:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

0.7% out of 2% spread typical bank charge is about 35%. 35% is "a fraction". Let's see if Wise will still use the term "a fraction" when their charges rise up further.

Embrace. Extend. Extinguish. Now it's "extinguish" phase. laugh.gif
*
They can’t go any higher than 1% because that will be their extinguishing point 🤦‍♀️

As other members mentioned. Better standby cash just incase. They will inform you if there is additional charge.

Last time I calculated before, putting THB in Wise and withdraw from Thai ATM. After calculating the fees + withdrawal fees, it's still cheaper than changing money changer. But need to withdraw the maximum amount in transaction to be worth it. I think about 20k THB if not mistaken. Cos the withdrawal fees is fixed
*
Withdrawal fee is 200baht right?

If I am travelling to Singapore and need to spend some SGD, is it cheaper to convert some MYR to SGD first in Wise, and spend it there using the debit card? Or I should just leave my MYR in Wise and let Wise to convert it into SGD whenever I spend in singapore? Which one is cheaper?
*
Already mentioned many times based on FX rates which changes daily 🤦‍♀️ as you won’t know the live rates until you transact

Convert you have control to set the rates while auto conversion is based upon the live FX rates

The only thing Wise gives you is the control of your money and transaction not on FX rates 🤦‍♀️

QUOTE(EpsilonStar @ Apr 21 2023, 01:09 PM)
Guys how long to get the wise card ya? I will be travelling in 3 weeks time and from app estimate time is end of may. Is that accurate one?
*
App estimate time is just the estimate from Wise and at the end it depends on the courier itself iinm DHL to send it before the estimate time

Usually 2nd week you should have received provided no major delays along the way
