DarkCoffee I believe your AirBNB is most likely based in singapore (but charging you in RM). if it's really locally based in Malaysia, you can complain to Bigpay and ask to undo the 1.5% fee

QUOTE(Medufsaid @ Nov 26 2023, 03:24 PM) DarkCoffee I believe your AirBNB is most likely based in singapore (but charging you in RM). if it's really locally based in Malaysia, you can complain to Bigpay and ask to undo the 1.5% fee Even if they are based in Malaysia, they still can make use of foreign payment gateways, so it's best to avoid any cards that come with these fees. It's been a long time since we've had any reason left to opt for BigPay.

QUOTE(Medufsaid @ Nov 14 2023, 11:45 AM) cheapest way to get it back in ringgit
- make sure Wise have already given u a bank acct info
- ask them to ACH to your US bank acct provided by wise
- after hours or couple of days, wait for U$ to be banked in
- convert to ringgit
- using your wise debit card, reload RM to your TnG ewallet/BigPay
Hi Medufsaid, Need your advise on the above, I just received the USD in my USD account. How do I convert it to ringgit (point 4 above)? (before reloading into my TnG ) Thanks. This post has been edited by amy33: Nov 27 2023, 03:47 PM

Hi all, reading through many messages, most of you make use of Wise for account transfer purposes..any idea if it's worth using it for travelling purposes? i.e. making it as a debit card for payment in overseas. Or actually taking foreign cash is a better option?

Or actually taking foreign cash is a better option? I always consider having cash to travel is a bad option. You always end up with coins where you don’t know what to do with after the trip. Euro 1 dollar 2 dollar like that. Go change back then very hassle and time consuming. Also u get charged double the exchange rate since you first exchange myr to intended currency then back to myr again. However some places you have to use cash like Japan and Taiwan. If card works, just use cards. Wise is good for travelling in europe imo cuz everything can be settled with paywave. One of thing is VAT claim like tax claim for luxury bag bought overseas. If you have CC then refund is so much easier compare to cash. Not sure if you can request VAT CLAIM if you pay by cash This post has been edited by bokbokchai: Nov 29 2023, 01:54 PM

Not sure whether I can link Wise to IBKR and then transfer MYR to IBKR and then do the MYR to USD in IBKR? Is it allowed?

IBKR doesn't accept MYR. it's using Wise to convert to USD/SGD. then in IBKR, convert SGD to USD at U$2 per $100k.
if IBKR accepts RM natively and we can convert to USD by paying U$2, we can kiss Wise/sunwaymoney/etc goodbye

After several trials and comparisons with IBKR deposits recently, the best method I've identified is to initially convert MYR to USD at Wise, and then execute a USD Wise Balance Transfer at IBKR.

I've gone through the T&C for the account and card, I don't believe there's a spending limit in place. This post has been edited by Steve78: Nov 30 2023, 12:02 AM
