QUOTE(spacelion @ Dec 3 2020, 03:01 PM) at the end of the day Malaysia Canto more pure because it is stuck in the time when we first got our migrants over The bolded part = nopeHK canto already changed quite a bit due to PRC influence Penang Hokkien, TW Hokkien, Fujian Hokkien. They are like 99% same, except some slangs and whatnot. There are some vids about that on Youtube. Taiwanese in Fujian PRC, speaking Hokkien https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mqTd_eiXIQ All develop based on their own regions and local customs/cultures. That's why we have some Malay words in our Chinese languages, e.g., "mata" = police In fact, I speak Canto-lish (Canto-English) most of the time, especially with my old man in serious conversation LOL. If u watch the previous vid that I posted, you can clearly see the slight differences of HK Canto and Guangdong Canto. HK Canto - 飲品 VS Guangdong Canto - 飲料 The object is different despite referring to the same thing. The object is different despite referring to the same thing. Also from the same dude: 點解廣東人講野甘複雜?碳酸飲料,以爲上化學堂。直接叫有氣就得啦。清楚明瞭。 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BJhSQHnu7s...aZ5MbvSJ4AaABAg And also, Guangdong Canto - 加冰块 I think in Malaysia, we just call it 加雪 This post has been edited by Meis: Dec 5 2020, 08:02 AM |

QUOTE(jj412 @ Dec 5 2020, 07:26 AM) It is normal in lanuguage to be not exacly the same in different regions. Even Cantonese in Ipoh is slightly different with KL. We have British English, American English or Australian English. Swiss German almost cannot be understood by Northen Germans. 1% different is not big deal. You are over-exaggerating. And it's not that hard to exclude those alien words and re-correct it.I've found another list of... Malaysian Cantonese is corrupted http://www.usj.com.my/bulletin/upload/show...se-is-corrupted Previously posted this... https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=96408055 Solar Calendar Add these lists to the 1st post for education and info purposes, just in case if someone needed it. QUOTE(jj412 @ Dec 5 2020, 08:04 AM) It is no big deal to be slightly different and why is there a need for "pure" Cantonese to begin with? It is just fucking day to day language among the locals, you are not going to need correct grammmar to pass exam or publish articles in international journal. Not pure, just standardization... Standard Cantonese. I'm all about unifying ppl. Not dividing and not making unnecessary division.Once a upon a time, there is a foreigner who said, "You do not need 1000 different dialects just to refer a spoon." Even a foreigner, an outsider laughed at us. He laughed at our weakness. Why do you think Lee Kuan Yew dislike Singlish and criticize it in his books? You should read his stuff where he was puzzled by the Pacific Islander's English in one of his massage sessions. There is a fine line between formal and informal speech. I would stay away from "rojak" in a formal speech. Do you not know there are Sub-Cantonese languages/dialects existed in GD and Guangxi? You will pull your hair out when you encountered one. https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=96413637 This post has been edited by Meis: Dec 5 2020, 06:09 PM Solar Calendar liked this post

QUOTE(jj412 @ Dec 5 2020, 06:55 PM) And which is the "standard" Cantonese or any other dialect? It is only barely possible for lingua franca like English or Mandarin because there is influential authority like government or media (BBC English) which even then still subject to variation due to influnce of local culture or community. Cantonese? Nobody is interested in standardisation when it is not really a lingua franca in any way. People just converse in local context. It is different story for major language as you want to speak to international audience. Language is tool. Good tool, you keep it. Useless tool, you throw it out. Part of human evolution. Ultimately, there will be localisation or "rojak" language in any part of the world, a great example will be Swiss German. As long as it is in informal context, there is really no utility to force people to change it. A language must serve 2 purposes: Culture and economy. Meet these 2 requirements and it will flourish. In the old days, the Cantonese dominated the KL region. They built lots of stuff, including Chinese schools and Jalan Loke Yew. They are also the major group. All Chinese groups in KL agreed to made Cantonese as a lingua franca. Now fast forward, who is the dominant force? Mandarin speaking in across Malaysia is a thing. Clearly all Chinese parents have acknowledged that it is important to "reconnect" the past and the Rise of China. In the same time, we didn't abandon English because we still see it as an important lingua franca. They all are related to culture and economy. Watching English TV shows. English speaking office environment, especially big multi-national corps. Etc., etc. You get the drill. This post has been edited by Meis: Dec 7 2020, 01:30 PM |

QUOTE(botlife @ Dec 7 2020, 01:30 PM) I even joked on that. HK's suffering is someone else joy.HK needs to fix the land price. And then they are good to go. Look at Singaporean and German housing. GD local gov't should help them as well; e.g., HKers who work in GD, get tax break or something. Gain some good positive points. Almost everyone in SG laughed at HK since the riot, radical movement in last year. HK is too capitalist. Little that people know that SG has decent "social program". Not long ago, CY of HK tried to implement left leaning policies. The capitalist class, upper class, liberal intellectual people (like Chip Tsao 曹捷) hated CY for his people's oriented policies, left leaning policies. He gave too much "social welfare" to the people. CY's "eat the rich" policy was his down fall. Now HK ppl regretted themselves for being brainwashed by the yellow camp and Apple News. After the last election in Dec 2019, the blue camp KOL scene rises like crazy. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPNn...3QIKptKPJYXoPYF https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPNn...mIkRyB12Lt52aiH She is a HK KOL. A former light yellow camp, then switched to blue camp. Now she stays in Shenzhen and HK. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPNn...nNPjOU3jPeHSUpC This Malaysian guy supports the blue camp. He even has connections with them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b_6TKrhm14 This post has been edited by Meis: Dec 7 2020, 02:39 PM |

QUOTE(botlife @ Dec 7 2020, 02:25 PM) if about the property ,actually the biggest evil there is their own govt, cos the govt is biggest and de factor properti developer by control land resources, a tiny piece land open auction for tenth billions, so build bird cage lo, and big developer needs to pay high auction fee as political subserviency to govt, yes govt ask them to bid start in high high price one you need to belive it, then govt have high income and developer develop bird cage skyrises offer to hk sakai tat have no other choice (but to buy) Elitists like Lee Ka Shing has benefited from the 官商勾结 (developer and gov't hush-hush with each other aka collision) after 2000 hk govt get money from squeeze and limit land resource there, bcos they start loose economic position as toilet janitor money collector for entry to china, especially after china enter into wto, thats why things are too expensive, so if later someone say i want to relax the land resources of cos those previous one will sound cos they will loss life savings, and the money gotten is channeled into mainland hand by some funny project, example build a mrt station cost 90billion ringgit, a fake island cost 300billion ringit, airport 400billion, its squeeze its islander to apease higher up and end up skinny and poorer and in return rely more on the boss where it given up its money, its a vicious cycle set in place since 2000, only after 2006 that hk is economically insignificant to china , before that hk economic output measures around 1/8 of china and 1/3 of pearl river delta. for a small island that is something and since china open up hk economic role lastime as toilet entry fee collector is no more, so their govt turn more to land as resources and it attract mainlanders also to invest for diffrent way of rules , at least till 2007 dissident in china can seat safely in hk, its the differences that let riches love it and that atttraction, but now even the hk govt want to toe and follow to beijing wishes mean rules are same and there is very little rule of law especially political things so nobody wants to go far away to a place of same rule, so hk is very fast degrading themselve to second line city in china, it got no economic specialty and now it los political specialty, it bcome just another chinese city, those govt head that sell hk is their islanders true traitor (but to beijing is patriot) , but that is hk people problem and now cannot lansi ody they are commies now, now is transition generation so u see some noises, old class fading away in vain protest, later when transition is complete, hk is just another china city, and filled with people that have grudge to govt but only talk in coded messages privately and keep heads low like now in other cities, the subserviency is completed, hk as once pearl of asia is no more it seem inevitable now toilet janitor fee collector (hk) is useless people, yet bcos he (hk) sit there he collect fee (business hub and facility) and feel bcome superior than others when others want to pee (enter china). but once the toilet (china) got two door the fee collector suddenly no more able to collect fee and left with dunno what to do, that is hk govt in 2000 On the bright side, HK has ICAC which is independent unlike our anti-corruption body that runs by Jib Gor. BN is so full of fail. The elites work with elites to keep the system or house in order. Ruling party gives "concessions" to the opposition party to calm down them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IrV9iWyxfs...HVJQURrF7Rxrphp "Traditional elites were willing to concede many economic demands to liberals (oppositions) over the following decade in exchange for their abandonment of the revolution." - Mark Bray, short description on two-party dictatorship. "No revolution succeed, unless a significant portion of the ruling apparatus, in particular --- the security apparatus, refuses to defense the discredited regime" HK has lost its "gateway" to China. The world no longer needs HK to have access to PRC. In fact, it is now the other way around. PRC uses HK to get "stuff" that are blocked by the West and whatever to go into PRC, e.g., technology, loans, banking, etc. The "white glove" 白手套 of HK. Related to 1MDB and Jho Low. HK and Macau are the havens of washing money. British (British Overseas Territories) and many other countries have their own tax havens as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ9i8cGJNoM This post has been edited by Meis: Dec 7 2020, 03:25 PM |
