What kind of daily/weekly pass can be used for all trains in Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo which worth the price? Planning maybe 3 days Osaka, 4 days Kyoto, 2 days Fuji and 3 days Tokyo...

No such pass.

JR Rail Pass covered Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka and Kyoto but JR train coverage in Osaka , Kyoto and Tokyo are crap, suxk. JR Rail Pass totally useless in Hakone. Kawaguchiko only Limited Express "Fuji Excersion"

Best pass for Osaka and Kyoto will be Amazing Kansai Pass but this pass cannot take JR train.

Tokyo are fully covered by Metro. 3 day unlimited metro pass will be the best but you can't take JR , Keikyu , Odakyu train.

Fuji will be Odakyu Fuji Free Pass. It covered entire Kawaguchiko and Hakone but you only limited to Odakyu.

JR pass not worth it if you just travel one way from Kyoto to Tokyo. JR Rail Pass cost Rm1.4k for 7 days.

Please google more on Kansai Amazing Pass.

Depends on your journey… the Japan Rail Nationwide pass is only worth it if you travel many cities in a short time
And bad thing is JR stations are limited in cities

E.g. It’s worth it for me to get the 14 days JR pass because I’m doing
Tokyo - Nagano - Toyama - Takayama - Osaka - Kyoto - Nara - Hemiji - Tokyo

Kansai Amazing Pass is only for 3 days? So that means I have to buy 2 times if I am staying about 7 days in Osaka and Kyoto? Metro can probably cover Tokyo.

I am planning to touch down Tokyo first..then take train to Kawaguchiko, then bus to Kyoto and finally goes back to Malaysia from Osaka.

I dunno why you guys so obsessed on seat resevation. Most people here are not going to Japan during Golden Week. Even you going on Golden Week, due to JR dirty trick, you also won't get a seat.

I been To Japan so many times, entire Forumer here combine also can't more than me. I never ever once in my whole life sit on full passenger train (Limited Express
& Shinkansen) except Golden Week.  Even Airport Express (NEX, Keisei Skyliner, Haruka , Nankai) more than 300 times, not even once full.

Even the most popular Kintetsu Shimakaze & Hinotori also never ever full.

You guys here really kanasai...... biggrin.gif

I’m going on the weekend before golden week, no choice so need to book online
JR east reply me Liao, trying to understand their England…

I buy a lot of foreign currency stuff using my Citibank business Plat, no extra charges also

If you do multi city then no point getting JR pass in my opinion
Intercity/metro trains are quite reasonably priced any way

Google map have train fares so you can just total up and compare the price with a rail pass, a bit tedious but that’s the best and only way to make sure you get the best bang for buck decision

It depends how much you are traveling each day. If at relax pace and just 1-2 places/day. It's much cheaper and convinient to use SUICA/PASMO card (works just like TnG card on LRT/MRT)

Tokyo metro 1/2/3 days pass are not really worth it unless your hotel are next to subway station as this pass cannot use on JR Yamanote line which is very convenient ( circle line)

Think of this metro pass as a special pass in KL that can take unlimited monorail but cannot use on LRT/MRT. Very limited locations and you won't repeatedly take unless your hotel is at Berjaya Times Square.

Tokyo don't have any pass that works on all station? Like rapid KL pass. Hmm.. How much per travel averagely using train at Kyoto and Osaka? The Kansai amazing pass cost around 70 MYR from Klook for 3 days.. 1 day probably will take 4 to 5 trips as we'll visit around? Kyoto mostly uses bus the last time I went. Does the amazing pass works on bus as well?

Osaka Amazing Pass is only for Osaka and only have 1-day and 2-day options. Both covers Osaka subway, tramway, and bus only but the 1-day version gives more choice of lines to use.

Are you referring to Kansai Thru Pass instead? https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2357_005.html

Both not valid for lines operated by JR though.

Japan's rails are operated by different companies. So the passes are company/companies specific. It's like RapidKL pass valid only for Prasarana operated trains and buses. Cannot use for KTM.

No. Just bring cash, more benefits for sure.

Even if the fx rate is good now.

For shopping, some shops if you pay cash you can even get tax refund on the spot.

How's the living cost in Japan now? Asking to see how much I need to prepare for food budget. I can get a quite good food for about 1k yen 7 years ago..not sure now. I see MYR to YEN didn't change much though.

What is the better place to stay in Tokyo?
Would you consider Shinjuku or Shibuya?

Those two places no no for me. Very difficult to carry luggage around and crowded.

Most would suggest a place like Ueno (easy access to Yamanote line and Shinkansen, plus if you are coming from Narita).

I personally like to stay at Hamamatsucho, since I usually fly in from Haneda.
*
Oh that's new to me, thanks for your suggestions.
Would Ueno have better hotel rate and have the convenience of both access to public transport and nearby convenient store?
