Ooo strange for a sealed unit to have early serial activation..did you ask them about it and what was the reply?
*
It is likely the warranty date activated from the date of purchase - so likely when the stock reaches here in Malaysia, it will be 1 month or so short due to shipping etc.

Even after you’ve entered the purchase date upon activation of the product, it will still return to the original purchase date after 24 hours of activation. It’s Apple’s way of controlling warranty periods because its as if you’re purchasing a ‘re-sell’ unit that is sealed.

Oh ok. But most people get their MacBooks 2-6 days after purchase, so do you mean they get only 11 months warranty or so?

I'm also considering to get one... but looking that intel have launched new 10th gen for their processor... i'm afraid later Apple will update their specs to the latest processor... any thoughts?

I’m also holding back..coz wwdc is on June 22nd, and based on readings..it’s almost confirmed there will be a new 16” latest by Q4 2020....small chance of them putting miniled as it was rumoured to be 2021..Higher chance to get 10 gen intel for base models or higher spec..

Highly doubt there will be any announcement during WWDC since it's a developer conference.

I do foresee a minimal difference between the Gen 10 and Gen 9 CPUs - it's Intel, who are we kidding? tongue.gif

Wifi 6 was hygiene for the 10th gen chips, and the 13' didn't ship with it, so I doubt Apple will include that for the 16', if that's what you are waiting for. Also, the 10th gen chips are significantly higher in price in comparison to the 9th gen, so there is a possibility that the price might be bumped a little, or another way is to not give you 'higher / better' specs to compensate the extra cost.

If you don't have a laptop, need one urgently, I would just say go for it. If you don't mind waiting and have one laptop on hand then you can continue waiting. One lesson that I've learned from anticipating new technologies, don't wait for them. Just get it. The 16' is good enough to last you for many years to come. If you ever have doubts, just scroll through reddit under the Macbook Pro sub-section, you'll have plenty of insights there cool2.gif

Thx bro, good insight indeed...currently using an iPad Pro for basic functions and have a laptop/desktop..so don’t mind waiting especially the new 16” should be due for refresh pretty soon...although might not be huge upgrades (only major in 2021 i.e miniLED etc) but anything newer is better..

But yes I defo agree with the ‘don’t wait for new tech’ since it’s a never ending process/waiting...biggrin.gif

Question, is it advisable to use a tempered glass/screen protector on the MacBook? I’ve been using TG on all my iPads/iPhones but not sure if its a good idea to slap one on the mbp..

Also, do you use any keyboard protectors? I read keyboard protectors will somewhat damage the screen (in long run). I’m planning to use the very thin silicone that’d fit only the keyboard..not sure if it’s recommended.

Nope, I don't use any. Wouldn't wanna interfere with the beautiful screen. Your devices are touch screen, so TG is normal, Macbooks aren't touchscreens sooooo you're good. Just make sure you wipe the keyboard after each use to make sure no debris is caught in between, if you are really fussy about it. I don't use any form of protection on my Macbook except skins - still waiting for DBrand to ship bangwall.gif

screen protector/tempered glass will totally ruin the display of macbook. a lot of screen protector/tempered glass such as moshi one are matt finished. it will bring the brightness and clarity of the display of macbook all the down. Display of macbook is nice is because the display is retina and glossy finish that's why it looks vivid, virant and nice.

keyboard protector to me is a must as i cannot tahan the keyboard turn oily with all the stains on it after a period of usage.

Do you mean if I put tempered glass on a mbp the outcome won’t be the same as iPad Pro? Coz my iPad Pro still retain its high quality resolution even with TG.

Are you using those silicone keyboard protector that fit just right onto the keyboard?

If ur tempered glass is clear type and the clarity is good, it should not matter then. however, macbook display seriously do not need a tempered glass. My macbook is 3 years old now without any protector or tempered glass since day 1, it also does not have a single scratch yet.

I am clear silicone keyboard protector that cover individual keys except the Touch Bar portion.

Oh...aside from the display resolution, is it true what others said about using tempered glass + keyboard protector will damage the display in long run? Because of the thin gap in between bla and bla...laugh.gif

Keyboard protector I put it on all the time as I really use my MacBook on the go nowadays. Mostly 24x7 on like a server at home.

If I really need to close the laptop, I will remove the keyboard protector. It will not really damage the display physically since it is just a silicon. However, it will leave stains on the display and if you dun clean up soon in long run it may become a permanent mark on the display.

Tempered glass unlikely will damage the display la. Normally it is quite thin, even when you close it and it touches the keyboard also it should not cause much impact. Unless ur tempered glass is really really thick.

Oh ok...sounds a bit leceh to always remove the keyboard silicone everytime you close the lid....putting a tempered glass would solve the issue then biggrin.gif but it feels/sounds weird to have a TG on a laptop lol..

redundant to have TG on laptop in the first place. Like what others, it is not touchscreen after all.

TG in the first place is not easy to find for laptop too. Branded one like Moshi is matte one. Cheap one I have not seen it before yet.

I'd rather go for the 2019 version than the upcoming 2020. For good reasons, the update for 2020 version is not worth waiting as mini-led is still the same LCD panel, not even an OLED. And that's probably the only update that is "major".

And having the first version (2019) is like owning a historical piece since it's the debut product while owning a 2020, 2021 is like meh considering it will be the same albeit specs bump. In fact even if the 2020 was already available, I would still buy the 2019 version for that exact reason of owning an exclusive debut product while still maintaining the same design. Which is why I sold my iPhone XS a couple months ago and bought a used iPhone X instead, yep no joke.
