yeah,

digi Edge claims can only go up to 238kbps but Celcom 3G currently at 311kbps which is consider good considering it will max out at 384kbps

actually i wanted to subscribe to the 3.5G which can touch 1.2Mbps, but since they are hav a promo on the 3G package , i might as well try this out first to guage the signal strenght of my area. I was told tat by Merdeka, Celcom will promo the 3.5G which will be lower than the current RM120/mth unlimited usage

fyi i am using an old moto c975 toact as the modem, i believe my new V3xx will be much faster tongue.gif
ya i also can surf on my fon on this package and view TV3, TV8 & NTV news ( i guess is foc cause its unlimited package).................no lag at all, smooth as my mother's tv at home thumbup.gif :thumbs

Hello everybody,

Been reading all the posting from you guys .. and I must said .. I had gotten a lot of useful information from this forum. Good work guys!! smile.gif

Actually, I am interested in the RM149 package. I have to be very honest, I am more attracted by the HP 520 laptop then the EDGE unlimited.

However, after reading through all the posting, I really wonder whether I should get this package just for the HP laptop, and stuck with the low bandwidth for 2 years ....

Thus, I sincerely hope that you good people out there can help to enlighten me to make a wise decision. wink.gif

Here are my questions:

1) Has anyone connected to the internet using the EDGE (samba) modem provided (from the RM149 plan)? What is the speed like? I am asking this because most guys are using their mobile phone to connect. It seems no one had commented on this modem ....

2) How is the HP 520 laptop performance? Is it slow without any memory (RAM) upgrade? What would be the ideal addition RAM to add? Another 512MB, 1GB or 1.5GB?

3) How is the Vista home edition like? Is it workable? Or, we will need to reinstall the full version or Windows XP Pro in order to do other stuffs beside just home use and net-surfing?

4) Is there anybody using EDGE to do BT downloading? What kind of download speed can you achieve through EDGE? Does it take forever to download a movie?

5) Is there anyone in Kepong area who is using EDGE? I am at Desa Aman Puri, Kepong. If someone can tell me how is the speed like around Kepong area would be great!! smile.gif

Thanking everybody in advance.

Best regards,

Alvin

Can't blame HP, then blame the consumer ah? HP had to make sure that they have ex-stock on their product. The stock management on HP really have problem. If e v thing u buy from HP also in their production line and need 14 WORKING days to ship down to you. Then HP will close SHOP. My friend buy a Dell notebook b4. It is a 5 days delivery time + a good tracking system. HP just ask you to wait... suck !!

QUOTE(alextee1881 @ Aug 7 2007, 10:10 AM)
Logistic issue can't totally blame HP alone. As you know this promo is bundle with DiGi. Perhaps end-to-end process flow not well coordinated.

About the Order Form from Digi,, it does ask the Credit Card CVC Code...  hmm.gif wouldn't it danger if i fill it up?  sweat.gif

Added on August 7, 2007, 4:05 pmWhat make me decide on the RM 161.50 package was

RM 161.50x24 months=RM 3876
market price for the notebook + hp= RM 2500+850=RM 3350
Means i pay the extra of RM 526 for the notebook +hp

BUT, there is RM 300 FREE air time for you where each month RM 50 x6 months on your mobile phone. AND unlimited EDGE/broadband access FREE for 2 YEARS. PLUS a 24 months 0% interest rate installment.

In conclusion, the RM 526 EXTRA is really worth for it !!! Is important to check is your place have EDGE coverage or not. Else, this package is not worth anymore.

Okie Alvin i am staying next door in wangsa permai. Well I had been using digi edge (prepaid but pay RM149 for unlimited) for the last 6 months. As i said before, if you really have no choice only you go for digi edge and comes today i believe edge as for surfing is seriously outdated technology and no matter what modem you use, you will still have slow and inconsistant data feed. If you have to stay in an apartment in aman puri, go to your management and ask for any private broadband provider and i am currently using Mykris at RM 88/ month unlimited no trottle for BT also and you get 120kB/s of BT maximum. As for digi if you are really lucky you get 20 kB/s. Another choice is get a streamyx if you still want to deal with TM icon_rolleyes.gif

As for the notebook and HP handphone, I believe now even you go to Hypermarket you can get 12 months free interest for any electronic product you buy and there are plenty of interest free scheme nowaday as compared to last time. The HP handphone is not really useful if you already say have a se or nokia phone. Any way think again. whistling.gif

I actually subscribe to this service and cancel it. Thinking back, i actually made a right decision.

Alvin & cy97..no offense.. tongue.gif

IMO, RM2500(nb) + RM899(hp) + RM300(1st 6 months voice) + Rm480(24 months access fee waived) + Rm2376(24 months edge/gprs unlimited waived) = Rm6555.
(hope my calculation din't miss out anything tongue.gif sweat.gif)

While the package = Rm3876..(Rm161.50 by 24 months)

Take a simplest calculation minus off the NB & HP price, Rm3876 - Rm3399 = Rm477, devided by 24 months, the 24 months EDGE/GPRS unlimited access is Rm19.875 monthly.. what do you expect wor.. yet its mobile at anywhere, so average 20+ or more KB/s isn't enough?! ya don't forget u still can use airzed wifi for free which contract btw Digi & airzed. biggrin.gif

Compare to maxis/celcom, Digi is "real" unlimited which no 3GB quota limitation there, this is the most beauty part I like.

Ya, even the NB & HP spec might not suit to your individual expectation but who care? u can sell it off, get the cash top up some go buy your most wanted model tongue.gif

For me, I 1000% anti tmnut, yet my always No.1 ISP Jaring services not reach my area(too bad)..haigh..

Hi CY,

Thank you so much for the reply and info. I really appreciate it. tongue.gif

I had just called up Mykris. Unfortunately, there is no coverage at the apartment that I am staying, i.e. Perdana Puri. At first, I thought they were using wireless technology. However, I was told they are using fixed line. The wireless solutions are for the corporate users. In order to provide the service, they will need to install some equipments in the apartment building, which I think will unlikely to happen. sad.gif Lucky you, CY! Am so envy ... smile.gif

I had called up the apartment management office, sad to say, there is only streamyx available at our apartment. I had very bad experience with streamyx in our office. Thus, had never considered streamyx as my private broadband solution.

Um, CY .. are you using the fixed line solution from Mykris, or the wireless? Care to share with us?

Thank you and regards,

Alvin

Actually Mykris is using wireless solution NOT fixed line by TM. What they do is they would set up a wireless station at the top of apartment and there would be router or what not ...than they would pull down cables, add switches and connect to each apartment that requires their service. What i do is just plug in the cable to my laptop and i am online just like streamyx. No dial-up, and you wish to share the line with other pc at your home just buy a router be wired or wireless. The speed is good and stable as shown below. Previously when i used digi edge, i would have to bring my laptop to Starbuck to download heavy stuff or doing windows update, and bt is taking like months to download a movie, with my current line, i have download more than 10 movies with daily usage up to 2 gig per day, looking at the fact that i only use it at night when i back from work. I believe another choice is Jaring wireless, but they charge you one lumpsump of 2K/2years (rediculous!). Anyway i still think that standalone wireless modem is still inferior compared to fixed line or wireless station based solution like Mykris.

Hi CY,

Thanks again for the info and prompt reply. You seem to know a lot about IT stuff .. impressive ... notworthy.gif

I had just called up Jaring. To my disappointment again, Desa Aman Puri is out of the current coverage range. The coverage for Bandar Sri Damansara station is only until K.I.P. and certain part of Wangsa Permai. sad.gif

Since Digi Edge is out of the question, am I really have to turn to streamyx??? Gosh .... icon_question.gif

Totally frustrated,

Alvin

Just now been to Digi SC check about the promotion...They provide a demo set which Compaq Presario with Sony Ericsson data card for EDGE. According to Digi CS, many customers more prefer on Package Awesome which Rm149 months. hmm.gif

I been spent 30 mins stand there for browse around for testing purpose.. tongue.gif

5 tests on www.speed.jaring.my , result was 152, 157, 128, 121 & 87kbps for DL, average is 129kbps (approx 16KB/s). But of course, in real life we do not base on these figures for web accessing every single minutes tongue.gif

while my office leased line 1Mbps s=(share with few hundred users) about 508kbps..
[attachmentid=274756]

if base on this comparison its about almost 4 times slower than broadband. laugh.gif

But then, on real life test, I found EDGE is slower (than the 4 times) on loading macromedia flash player.. hmm.gif

I would say Digi EDGE connection is quite competitive to old day ISDN 128kbps. smile.gif Far better than old school dial-up connection.

hell ya, forgot to emphasize, my Jaring is 1000kbps (1Mbps) where digi edge is 238kbps. (both on MAX)

No matter what broadband u use from any private ISP (not hp telco). Their backbone still back to TMNET lah. They only settle the very front line traffic congestion, which is using wireless or fiber optic or wat kind of connection to connect from your place back to their OFFICE, then they still liase with TMNET backbone... That is why you said fast, but if traffic congestion is at the TMNET backbone. Then SLOW lah.. lol..
