Hi William,

Thank you so much for providing me the info. Truly appreciate ... smile.gif

By the way, are you familiar with this model? According to the spec, it says "Graphic subsystem video Up to 224 MB shared video memory". What does that means? It does not come with a separate graphic display card .. but a shared memory? Care to advise?

Thank you and regards,

Alvin

I think the hardware spec for HP 520 laptop isn't that impressive. Just an entry level laptop.

Dear all,

Honestly, when I first saw the promo, the hp 520 laptop really attracts me .. to the extend .. almost wanted to sign up right away. But .. luckily still have a bit of doubt of the connection speed of EDGE .. that leads me to this wonderful forum .. tongue.gif

Went to the Digi counter at Carrefour Kepong yesterday. They are having the setup using the samba EDGE modem, thus, I asked them to let me have a test on the speed. I ran the test a couple of times, was so disappointed that I can only gotten an average speed of 75 bps. So I checked with the salesperson who claimed can get 200+ bps in the beginning. You know what? He told me that the reception at Carrefour was bad and I cannot get an accurate reading. He suggested me to go to the Digi Specialty store near by (less than 1km away) to do another test. That's what my did. And .. guys .. I was absolutely shocked that I can only get an average of 45 bps in the shop which is not blocked by any other buildings .. and is directly facing the main road. They are using a SE phone to connect. Pathetic, isn't it? sad.gif

The ironic thing is, those people who are working in the Digi Specialty store are not using EDGE to connect to the internet. Instead, they are using Streamyx. The lady told me they won't be able to do any work if they were using EDGE to connect, it's just too slow. Umm, I really wonder .. how could someone trying to promote something that they themselves refuse to use? rclxub.gif

Thus, I would advise all people out there, before you sign up for this promo, just drop by at a Digi outlet near to your home and test on the connection speed. I will definitely cry.gif if I were to pay a sum of RM 99 a month for a connection around 45 bps .. more or less the same like a dial up ... doh.gif

But .. if you think the deal is too good to pass .. and the slow connection is not really an issue .. then .. it's a different story .. but I just want to say .. "GOOD LUCK!!!" whistling.gif

Intel GMA 950 is shared up to 224MB system memory.....that mean if u have 2GB system memory, then your Graphic memory can go up to 224MB....if u only have default 512MB system memory, then your total video memory i think should be 64MB only(in vista home basic)......but this all doesnt really important la.....

But you can bring your laptop to any places and access internet without Wi-Fi lo...this is another advantage lo... smile.gif
cause dial-up or streamyx have to fix at a certain place only..but with digi edge you can move. blush.gif

sweat.gif EDGE can hit 414.4Kbps.... drool.gif drool.gif

Hey! I'm accessing my office Web server via DiGi EDGE right now and I post "thundersized" digital pictures into our server via FTP and I'm happy so far with between 127 and 222Kbps download and about 111Kbps upload trough my Nokia 6230i but downloading a 640MB Linux CD image would take over 12 hours, which is when I wish I had 3G.

EDGE is also highly assymetrical - ie 414.4Kbps download/59.2Kbps uploade which is unsuitable for video calls which ideally requires equal upload and download speeds for smooth video.

ah yah, I'm using Jaring Wireless right now.. I found the performance about the same as EDGE (hell..ya, performance, not speed ok?) as it up & down.. is that wireless nature?!

Speed wise..btw 71 - 408kbps for DL. hmm.gif

its almost same slow when i try access maxis.com.my/3g (let it load the flash..)

I think..most probably i gonna apply the Digi Rm124 package tongue.gif tongue.gif
