Hey guys, just wondering why some of you guys fly above 120m. Is that legal?
This dude got bashed because of that.

Hi, it's illegal.
But have you try to drive your vehicle at 140km/h? blush.gif

new to drones, decided on the Mavic Mini due to low price point & features.

I read through the thread on using 5Ghz to boost the signal ... tried but I didn't get much difference from 2.4Ghz. Residential area, line of sight can't go more than 100m before signal breaking and RTH doh.gif

any suggestion on signal booster ? or is something faulty.

Hi, the Mavic Mini is also my first drone, and my skill & experience was getting better and better after 3 months+.

I was having weak signal earlier especially in my residential area. During this MCO period, I have tried extensive flight test in front of my house (terrace house) for several direction.
Finally, I was manage to fly the MM to Height 120m & Distance 1500m in one of the direction only, in "AUTO" 5.8GHz channel. True, the app shows me it was on 5.8GHz but MM did fly to 1500m (although the spec said max. 500m at 5.8G).

The rest of direction couldn't reach to max of 500m, and i strongly believe due to LOS.
Bear in mind, LOS mean a straight line, signal interference will occur if there is a tree (or other object) in between you and the drone. The further the distance, the angle of LOS is reducing. Fly higher to increase the LOS angle.

what I learnt from:
1) Remote Controller Antenna Best Practices: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7M9JtfVwQE
2) Use parabolic signal booster, this will significantly improve the signal. I bought from https://shopee.com.my/product/22737987/5918095680.
3) Switch my phone to airplane mode during flight.

Fly safe at home. icon_rolleyes.gif

LOL, DIY the antenna booster using a simple cans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fPgB1auyCo.
I also use an S7 solely for my MM. The brightness is great, but small screen for an old man like me. Plan to get a tablet mount for bigger screen. tongue.gif

How you get auto 5.8mhz... Yours FCC or CE version? Mine when crowded area most of the time get really bad signal unless I change to 5.8mhz but stuck within 500m range

Mine was CE version and the AC decided to choose a 5.8GHz channel in auto mode, when I start flying from my front car porch.
However, it will auto choose 2.4GHz if I am indoor, due to I have massive setup for 5.8GHz home wifi.

I could reach 1500m at 5.8GHz with the 3 points mentioned in my earlier post. Similar result if I manually choose a 5.8G channel.

Thus, I believe if you are in an open area (LOS) without much interference, you could achieve a better distance.

P/S: I never try on fakeGPS.

Yours was CE version. No wonder you get good range in 5.8mhz mode...

No offence, but CE version should have shorter range than FCC version.

My mistake... I thought CE was US version and FCC was the other version

Hi all, been always wanted to get a drone and Mavic Mini is the best deal.
But somehow nowadays kept raining so it kinda hold me awhile to get it now.

Anyway, I watched youtube about the new firmware with the new settings and also there's a video about motor error.
Anyone encountered the problem yet?

Reading from the comments on Youtube, several MM owners also experienced the problem after the update.

Here's the video.

Wanna monitor closely before buying it.. hehe

Cheers! smile.gif

Just a reminder to all drone operators (including the Mini) in Malaysia

QUOTE
KUALA LUMPUR (April 27): All parties including media practitioners are reminded to refrain from flying drones at any location across the country, while the Movement Control (CPP) Order is being enforced until May 12.

Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Air Operation (PGU) Drone Unit chief, Supt Rasha Azaldin Shafii said flying drones without obtaining permit from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) is a violation of the Malaysian Civil Aviation Regulations 2016 (MCAR 2016).

"Those operating a drone without permission may be subject to a minimum fine of RM50,000 or three years' imprisonment for individuals, while corporations may face a maximum fine of RM100,000.

"Please take note, all parties are not allowed to fly drones, unless they have a permit from CAAM and the permission of the police," he told Bernama.

He said throughout the MCO implementation, police had detected four cases of illegal drone use nationwide.

*Also, hi everyone, new mavic mini owner here. I'm trying to do all the updates on the DJI Fly app, but when it tries to update "FlySafe Data" it is just stuck on 0% (tried over wifi, over 4G). I've left the thing to download and after 10 mins it tells my the drones processing chip is overheating and so I turn it off.

Any other users able to advise? Does it just not update for us? Or am I doing something incorrectly?

Thanks!

A question to any big bros here, what does Class G airspace mean? According to US FAA, Class G is anywhere but Class A, B, C, D and E. Thus, if we follow this, does it mean we cannot fly at all?

Few days ago they were saying hobbyists were on standby and some even reported people breaking MCO & etc. Now it is illegal for hobbyists to fly. cry.gif
