Yes, as long as your iPhone is updated to iOS13.4, your watch can be updated to WatchOS6.2
in the meantime,if your Apple ID has been activated in a supported country before, you can activate it immediately.
if not just bring your watch to supported countries activate or the nearest country is Singapore or go JB border roaming SG telco to activate, should work.
or borrow your friend ’s activated Apple ID to login and go to setting >iCloud just sync health data to your iPhone.

Right, with the current MCO doesn't seem possible to move around.

Tried switching to my SG account, doesn't seem to work. Oh well.

If you have SG unit and activated before, sure can activate in MY or others unsupported countries unit.
but switching or changing Apple ID account region won't work.

Would this method work for now though? Or still need to physically go to Singapore to activate?

Aiya means still no go since I'm on AW5 MY set. I was thinking maybe with the current bug and I do the same thing it might work for MY units now.

The medical device management law is not passed. Hope that this law will be opened after it is loosened in the future.
Can feedback to medical equipment management in Malaysia.

For watchOS 6.2 version may have locked out the iMazing method for enable ECG , including the supported countries AW purchased abroad.

If u use the iMazing method enable ECG and have upgraded to watchOS 6.2 ,u still be able to use it, but if you unpair or reset the watch, u will not be able to use ECG function when pairing again.

If u encounter this issue,u can use icloud sync method to enable ECG again.

I can confirm ECG is working on Apple Watch S5 or S4 in Malaysia on our own Apple ID. I can assist anyone who want to enable this feauture for 50 ringgit, give me a request at huhaysydkhu[at]gmail.com. And make sure before your request that your Apple Watch S5/S4 is on WatchOS 6.2 or 6.2.1. Everything is done about 15 minutes and you will get ECG working.

So this ecg feature can be activated in countries without ECG like Malaysia, Japan, Australia etc.

In addition my Apple Watch 5 was bought from Australia so no ECG function as it is not supported in Australia.

Will the ECG function only work in WatchOS 6.2? Will it be deactivated once I update later?

Read this to understand why it is able to work: Link

tldr; Apple can flip the switch anytime they want and this "exploit" will stop working. As long as you stay on the current proven working firmware, then the ECG will continue to work for you. As of now, iOS 13.4.1 and WatchOS 6.2.1 is still working (I had mine upgraded).
