If it were up to me, I like to keep things simple and connect it directly to my PC(or to an external USB DAC if any is used), rather than going through another amp. But if your PC can't handle the headphone (like it's super high impedance with low sensitivity) then I guess you would need the extra oomph from the speaker amp. Or if you're using an external DAC that has only lineout, with no amp and volume control.

The ideal setup would be to have as little unnecessary component as possible. Why bother having an external amp to drive your headphone when your PC already has one. The amp from the speaker might just amplify the noise from the PC.

erm for me I would prefer to plug in to speaker since my speaker amp was modded but i recommend u to use a usb dac...

Get the latest generations/6th Gen onwards, then grab yourself a CLAS/Fostex HP-P1.

That... maybe very in future, for now I think I'll use it as normal usage, rockbox not needed too. so 6th gen good to go?

If that's the case grab the 6th Gen. I've tested the 5.5G and it does not work with the Fostex HP-P1. *looks at it by my desk doing nothing* lol

The owners didn't contact me back despite numerous attempts of me contacting them.

If the hard disk breaks down, grab a toshiba 240GB 1.8" ZIP hard disk...

Anyhow, no doubt the DAC section in the older iPods are superior, hence people came out with mods for it. However the CLAS and Fostex sounds much more superior (and quite abit more expensive) than the older iPods regardless of modification, so... Ya.

Ah, anyway, paid for that 6th gen. Hopefully everything's alright.
