These mp3 players have thier pros and cons... some better in SQ, some in UI... good if can try them out first.

hey can recommend me a good mp3 player. budget rm400. the data capacity must be alot too. is hippo gumstick suitable?

IMO, yes. It has 4GB internal. Storage can be expanded with a MicroSDHC card up to 32GB.

I have 2 players within your budget. The Gumstick and the Fuze+.

For a better sound(bit more fun more engaging, or if you like, louder), power up any portable IEM/headphone, maximum portability...the Gumstick. Seriously, for something that small and affordable, the sound is fantastic. Built like a rock too, not that i recommend you treating it like one.

I also do recommend Fuze+ because for that price you can easily get 8GB of storage and you can opt for a 16GB card later if you want to. It has a good screen and nice UI. But the touch sensitive controls is a bit fiddly and needs some getting used to. Doesn't sound as good(although still very good) but will do for most IEMs.

So it's up to you, but with the Gumstick you are getting a decent IEM(Shroom EB, Pearl...maybe Hippo 10 as well I dunno). With the Fuze you need to buy a better IEM to hear what it can do. That already adds up to you purchase and you'll end up paying more than RM400. Even for a cheaper 4GB, you'd still exceed your price limit getting a decent IEM.

currently have HIppo gumstick. But sometimes it hang when I off it. Trying to get another player maybe sansa clip+ or Fuze. clip+ and fuze which one better in SQ? any opinion on clip+ or fuze when compared to hippo gumstick?
how is Cowon player SQ?

IMO, Cowon players rely on it's EQ to sound great but that doesn't mean they sound bad without the EQ turned on, in fact, it sounds perfectly neutral. Which Cowon player are you referring to?

There is no difference in sound quality between these two players. The J3 is a cosmetically better S9 and it's really not a bad thing, quite the opposite. The expandable memory and physical buttons are a welcome addition among other new features.

You mean the Sony NWZ-B152F mp3 player? Because it's the only Sony mp3 player that retails for about RM159 (correct me if I'm wrong) or do you have another Sony in mind?

If it's between these two players I would pick the Clip+
Note that I've never heard the Sony before so take my biased opinion with a grain of salt. The Clip+ has expandable memory which is a plus for me. Also, the Clip+ can be Rockboxed to unleash it's 'true' potential. I say 'true' because I personally prefer the Rockboxed FW (firmware) over the OF (official firmware) in terms of sound. Again, I've never heard the Sony before and my opinions of the Clip+ are based on memory. I only had the Clip for a brief 2 days when I borrowed it from a friend.

yup,that sony model,retail price about rm159.. never heard about sansa before..if upgraded sansa with rockboxed firmware,will it void the waranty?

I think the Sansa is capable of driving low to medium impedance headphones. What headphones will you be pairing the Sony with?

i never heard anyone say that sansa clip has low output.. In fact almost all that i read is positive views. It was even considered as top 5 player in 2010 at abi

if its earphone only then it is more then enough.. Unless you want to put it to a dangerous level

i think someone said that cuz he was using the clip with high impedance headphones.

Like blegh said, most if not ALL portable players have no problem driving IEMs, earphones. I assumed you were using a high impedance headphone because you mentioned the Clip having low output.
