I have a friend who wants to buy a new set of 2.1 speakers.
Price range is probably around RM350.
Any recommendations?

He noticed an Edifier S2.1M model.
How is the performance for the model and any other competitors to this model and price range?
Mostly will be used for music and movies.
And if the speakers had a front headphone jack that would be a plus.

If you are looking for RM250 range, I think not much choice lo.
For gaming and movie purposes, Altec Lansing's VS4121 should be okay.
But if you use it to listen to songs, the 1st thing u will notice is that this set of speakers is missing the whole "mid-range" sounds because of its dumb down firing design for its mid-range speakers.
And the bass is definitely over-powered. After using it for more than a year, I never tweaked the bass level pass 1/4. Unless like some of the other forumers here say, you wanna make life hell for your neighbours

Like most other people's advice, go check out the sound of the system b4 buying.
Let your ears decide.

And about the CNET recommendation, I think the Logitech Z-2300 is way out of your price range.
Judging by the conversion rate from US$ to RM, that speaker should cost around 600~800 in Malaysia.

z-2300 most expensive is RM599, cheapest is RM560. RM800 is heaven price

How much does the Promedia cost and how is it compared to other speakers like the Edifier S2.1M?

I think Klipsch Promedia was no longer available. I tried to found this speaker before i bought MX5021 around 1 year ago, the existence of GMX is replace ProMedia. Now you only can found GMX, and its price quite attract. Why you want to sell your Aego M ? Not satisfy ?

The old Promedia got merely a 79% from CNET.
Saying it is overpriced and not as good as the Logitech Z-2300.

went to PC Fair... couldn't really test the sound as there are so many speakers banging :S

You forget put z2300 into the list ! Anyway, if you major in listen song (not techno & disco song) you can choose AegoM. More in disco songs choose z2300. If you want balancing sound, either Klipsch GMX 2.1 or MX5021.
