Update! Finally managed to get one. My friend helped me to order from Taobao and arranged shipping back here. It took about 11 days. Cost around 1.4k including shipping.

This is a good player for local playback. Thanks to Bro Anfieldude for introducing this player. 4k HEVC files playback is flawless. Picture looks great and sharp with quite accurate color space presentation. I use Samsung TV so HDR10 is automatically selected. I set resolution to UHD 60p with 12 bit 422 color space. The interface is fast n loading is way much faster then my Oppo 103 playing AVC files. I can say the files play straight away upon my pressing the play button, true USB 3 port. I use external HDD. Bitstream audio pass thru also works flawlessly, be it Atmos or DTS X.

Very happy with the player. If u are like me only interested in local playback, l highly recommend this player. Price might be higher than others but u really get great 4k pictures.

I also looking to get a media player but was introduce to Sony UBP-X700 (https://www.sony.com.my/electronics/blu-ray-disc-players/ubp-x700#pdp_slideshow_default).

Anyone know how does this compare to M9702?

X700 is a good 4k bluray player but l dont know it can play iso files properly. Whereas M9702 is a true media player with great 4k picture quality. I m not sure how to compare, lol

Choose the 1st option, the cheapest one. At least thats the correct one for me as l only playback using external HDD. I m not using what raid or nas or other connection.

Not sure if can, guess the data transfer wont be fast enough. Would it be compatible with the player?

Believe this has been tested by some German or Spanish forums and they confirm that it does not work.

I can't remember if the x700 plays ISOs, I can find that out tomorrow. I've connected my USB drive and found that it is pretty good but I don't think it plays DTS/DTS-x or Atmos. If it did then I wouldn't be purchasing one these m9702s. I hope this helps a little.

Hello,

I hesitate between the M9702 and the M9706. They are almost identical, but the M9706 should provide better sound. According to Tocinillo, he did not find the best sound of the M9706. Anyone among you compared the sound of the M9702 vs Oppo 203 and 205? Admittedly, the M9706 is heavier, better build quality, torroidal, jitter but it seems that the difference is almost inaudible if I believe Tocinillo, tester and manager of the Spanish AVP forum.

What do you think because the price difference is important?

With the M9706 I expected an audiophile device (I have a denon 4500 + Adiolab 6000A + Tannoy Revolution xt8f and XT6F). If I take a reproducer such as Zapitti + an audiophile usb reproducer, it costs a lot and if the M7906 does exactly the same thing for less, it is more interesting.

Frankly have no idea on the M9706. So far l dont have any complaint for the sound of M9702 but l m no audiophile.
The Atmos works very well for M9702 in all the movies l tried so far including those remux iso.
Just watch MI Rogue Nation in remux n the Atmos is good enough for me.
Anyone can help Bro Ulises?

Hello

Thank you Kevin for your help.

I do not understand that people do not test the sound. Yet the sone is essential.
Admittedly, the M9702 does not have analog inputs but it has an optical input and there it is possible to make a comparison with the Oppo 203.

€ 200 difference between the M9702 and 9706 is huge. It is true that the quality of construction is better but what matters is the image (I think that all devices give excellent image quality and I think it is difficult to evolve on this side) and sound first.

I think in cinema it is difficult to differentiate the two devices because of the nature (explosions, dialogues in films, etc.) but in hifi there should be a difference

Hifi is a different story. I just use it to watch movies n so far is very satisfied with the 4k hdr images.
Sound l can only compare it to my Oppo 103 n also quite satisfied, in fact 4k Atmos is more powerful. Is it the soundtrack or the M9702? Frankly l m no audiopile, just a satisfied user, haha
