Not sure if there has been any info before, but I hv been testing this media player - M9702 player. Its an interesting player to say the least.. There are 2 HDMI outputs (1 X 2.0, 1X1.4 audio only), gigabit LAN port, and 1 usb to TTL port for future upgrades and 1 optical out. The player runs off Oppo jalbreak firmware (latest version), supports HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. It seems to play everything that the JB Oppo plays (ie, UHD iso, BD iso, BD folders, mkv etc) and supports Dolby Atmos & DTS X bitstreamed. I will add pictures later if possible but its the only Dolby Vision playback device (for iso and folder structure) that I see in the market now. I'm not sure how long it will last as it uses the same Mediatek 8581 chip that the Oppo and Pioneer UHD players use. It also plays SACD iso.

Added info: Does not come with a BD-ROM so only plays iso, files etc. Comes with a backlit remote. Oppo remote works as well if u have one lying around.

YouTube review by a spanish AV group.

M9702 YouTube Review Part1

There are 3 parts, u can check them all out.

The latest units do not have the coaxial out.

Its USD399 for now, but some groups in Spain and Italy have done bulk buys that drops the price to USD300. This includes shipping.

My set shipped via FedEx and came in 2 days, but the seller is based in China, so I'm not sure how it applies to others for now.

Anything this box can do other boxes cannot do ?

It plays UHD iso / folders in Dolby Vision and HDR10+ . It also plays the media back correctly in any colour space that u select, ie YCbCr 4:2:2 / 4:4:4 correctly and because the conversion from 4:2:0 is done correctly the picture is sharper. Autoframe rates work without glitches as well (but some media players get this right as well).

It is not Android based (Linux based OS) so no apps etc.

i din read 4k from your review, does it support UHD/4k? not too expensive compare to Oppo but Oppo not only excel on its software but their base (circuit board is strong too)
*
Yes its a 4K player that plays Dolby Vision/HDR10/HDR10+ if the media is encoded correctly.

It uses the same Mediatek Chip as the Oppo. I have not seen any differences to the Oppo 203 that I have but will spend more time and add the 1st post if I do see anything out of place.

Sounds like libreElec/Kodi.

I was not aware that Kodi is able to playback Dolby Vision in any form.

sounds like a pure media player, which is great for serious playback.

can it do 1080/2160p BDMV menus?
*
Yes. The UI is exactly the same as Oppo and it runs on the Oppo 20x Jailbreak firmware. The one on mine is the latest firmware 65-0131. I added a link to a video review in the 1st post. U can see the UI and others, but need to turn on subtitles.

where to buy this product?
*
If u google "m9702 player" the 1st search result will give u a bd-mod site that allows u to order online and pay via paypal. That's how I bought mine. The other way is to join the next group buy with avpassion (spanish forum) and pay about USD100 less than direct buy and the shipping is done individually ( u will need to get intouch with the avpassion folks and I believe they will tell u how to proceed) with tracking.

anfieldude...have you received the player? could you post a short review of the player?
*
Yes I received it within 2 days of purchase. So far it works just like my jailbroken Oppo 203. Dolby Vision works great. It also supports HDR10+ but I have not tested this as I don't have a Samsung player. I tested the colour gamut and it's exactly the same as the output as the Oppo. HDR2020 to SDR2020 is broken just like the Oppo 203 as the gamut is shrunken to Rec709. This might be a mediatek chipset issue.

thanks. it sounds like a bargain.

have you tried any other Media Player like Egreat as a comparison to Oppo or M9702? i am currently using Egreat so i am not sure if the M9702 will be an improvement to the egreat.

from some forum, they mentioned that the M9702's visual is as good as the Oppo but the Audio segment is no where near Oppo quality even with the M9702 upgraded version with Talema transformer.
*
I do have the Himedia Q10pro to compare and the video output of the M9702/Oppo is better in the sense that its mainly due to the ability to convert 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 correctly. Plus u can select the desired output u want and it sticks. The Android based players are finicky and sometimes drop to 8bit outputs that is inferior for 10bit content.

The audio differences I have to validate as I find it hard to believe that if the output is bitstreamed and the digital to analogue conversion is done by ur AVR, it can actually be different. But who knows. When I find the time, I will try to see if I can test it in detail.

One thing that no other media player can do is the ability to play Dolby Vision content both TV Led and Player Led, so this is the bonus.

thanks for the feedback.

For the finicky issue of the 8bit content, i encounter the same issue with my egreat as well. i realized that this is due to the projector/AVR. when i turn on the egreat first and let it boot up before i turn on the rest, it will stay at 10 bit but if the sequence is wrong, the AVR will somehow force the egreat to 8bit. Maybe Himedia Q10pro faces the same issue.

i used to think that a player should not affect the sound as conversion is done on the AVR but after trying out several different player, i find that the sound has the biggest impact compares to image quality. different player has different characteristic of sound. some can be very bright and sharp while some could sound very mellow and less dynamic.
*
On the sound, is this based on Dolby Atmos/TrueHD & DTS-X/Master Audio codecs? Or 2 channel audio playback?

my personal experience is based on Atmos playback. i use Raspberry Pi for 2 channel playback instead.

so far, the best i have heard for HT is from Oppo 203 but due to the price, i have yet to take the plunge especially with the limited support after Oppo announce the closure of the Blu ray department.

i am very keen on the M9702 but from some chinese forum, they mentioned that the sound quality is still not on par with the Oppo even with the top specs Talema transformer+high end caps. this option is available if you purchase it through taobao.
*
I will hv to see what can be different if the decoding of the signal is done by the amp. Is this difference you hear with nothing else changed , just the source device?

The only thing I can think of is jitter. Its possible but for compressed audio like Dolby TrueHD/Atmos/ , DTS MA/X the effect is also dependant on the AV amplifier clocks. Still, it might be worth investigating and I will try to do this and report when I get the chance. I do know that the 205 had improved jitter circuitry, but even Oppo's notes says that the effect might be more pronounced for PCM and DSD audio and much more complicated to confirm compressed audio codecs.

i think the Jitter plays a big role in the sound quality. i usually use the John Wick 2 catacomb scene for my testing. there are a lot of small details in the ambience for the catacomb scene which is not able to be reproduced by the normal media player.
*
I will test it to see if I can hear the differences between the Oppo203 Vs the m9702 using this scene. What AVR do u use by the way?

Great to see a owner  of Arcam receiver in this forum.  Do u adjust sound  level of speaker in your amp to 75db after run dirac live? Why not you consider pioneer Lx500, The sound quality is better than oppo 203. Jailbreak version now also very stable.
*
Again, the sound of the LX500 is better than the Oppo203 for bitstream content, PCM or analogue outs from the Oppo/Pioneer?

yes, I got luck to test few player  oppo 203 , 205, pioneer lx 800  in my home in the same day  .  All sounds & pictures  are  different . But not every one is sensitive to sound quality, if someone cannot heard different is normal.
*
Thanks for the background. In ur experience, u could make out differences via hdmi out from these sources for bitstreamed content for the lossy codecs like Dolby TrueHD/Atmos/DTSHDMA/X? And the different sources were sent to same AVR...very interesting. I will report back once I can check the m9702 vs the Oppo 203 in my setup.

I can expect video differences for HDR content as the conversion of 4:2:0 to 4:4:4 for 4k content is different depending on the implementation. Also for 1080p content the upscaling to a 4k display will also be different depending on how it's done.

Hi bro, 1 more question, this player can play Blu-ray folder (BDMV, with Dolby Atmos/DTS-X + Dolby Vision/HDR10, as long as applicable)? example like below screen. It can play with full interaction menu + the extra features which come with the bluray? or only play the movie directly?  thanks again.

I have tested my M9702 Talema version and so far satisfy with the video quality. But i got a problem where both usb ports are unable to detect my 3.5" hdd with external enclosure while the 2.5" external hdd has worked flawlessly.
*
The one that I hv has no problems detecting the external 3.5" hdd dock that I use.

No need input MAC for the M9702. I suggest u contact seller via email 1st to ensure he will ship on time as sometimes he has other orders and u will have to wait some time. Only then place order.

Anyone have any idea would adding an USB blue ray drive work on this?

Believe this has been tested by some German or Spanish forums and they confirm that it does not work.
